Will Distance Bring Them Closer?

The distance between Bethany and Larry has been growing. Bethany wants to get closer to Larry, but she is beginning to realize that her constant questions and doubts may be creating even more distance between them.

Every morning, Bethany asks Larry questions about one thing or another. By nighttime, their conversations often turn into arguments. The more Larry becomes quiet, the more Bethany worries that he may be hiding something from her.

SCENE 1 — MORNING AT BETHANY AND LARRY’S HOUSE

The morning begins quietly. Sunlight enters through the windows as Bethany watches Larry getting ready for the day.

BETHANY

“Larry, can I ask you something?”

Larry pauses and looks at her.

LARRY

“What is it?”

BETHANY

“Where are you going today? And what time do you think you’ll be home?”

Larry sighs softly.

LARRY

“I have some things to take care of. I’ll be back later.”

Bethany notices his short answer.

BETHANY

“Are you sure that’s all you’re doing?”

Larry looks at her.

LARRY

“Yes, Bethany. That’s all.”

Bethany nods, but she still doesn’t look convinced. Larry walks away, leaving Bethany wondering why every conversation between them has become so difficult.

SCENE 2 — THE QUESTIONS CONTINUE

Later that morning, Larry returns home. Bethany immediately approaches him.

BETHANY

“Larry, did you talk to anybody while you were gone?”

Larry looks tired.

LARRY

“Bethany, why are you asking me that?”

BETHANY

“Because I want to know what’s going on with you.”

LARRY

“Nothing is going on.”

Bethany folds her arms.

BETHANY

“Then why do you always seem so distant?”

Larry becomes quiet.

BETHANY

“See? You’re not saying anything.”

LARRY

“Because every time I answer one question, you ask me another one.”

Bethany’s expression changes. His words hurt her.

BETHANY

“I’m only asking because I care about you.”

LARRY

“I know you care, Bethany. But sometimes it feels like I’m being questioned all day.”

Bethany looks down as Larry walks away.

SCENE 3 — NIGHTTIME ARGUMENT

That evening, the house is quiet. Larry sits on the couch while Bethany slowly walks into the room.

BETHANY

“Larry, are you upset with me?”

LARRY

“I’m tired, Bethany.”

BETHANY

“You’ve been tired for days.”

Larry looks at her with frustration.

LARRY

“Every morning there are questions. Every night there are more questions. If I’m quiet, you think I’m hiding something.”

Bethany slowly sits down.

BETHANY

“Maybe I’m doing too much.”

For the first time, Bethany begins to question her own behavior.

SCENE 4 — BETHANY’S REALIZATION

Later that night, Bethany sits alone in her bedroom. She looks at an old photograph of herself and Larry.

She remembers their early days together — the laughter, the long conversations, and the moments when they could sit together without arguing.

“Maybe I’m the reason Larry is becoming distant.”

Bethany wipes away a tear.

BETHANY

“Maybe I need to give him some space.”

She realizes that constantly questioning Larry may not be bringing them closer. Instead, it may be creating more tension between them.

SCENE 5 — THE DECISION

The next morning, Bethany wakes up with a decision in her mind.

She finds Larry sitting quietly in the living room.

BETHANY

“Larry, I need to tell you something.”

LARRY

“What is it?”

BETHANY

“I think I’m going to stay at my dad’s house for a few days.”

Larry becomes completely silent.

BETHANY

“I’m not leaving you. I just think we both need some space.”

Larry looks down.

BETHANY

“I keep asking you questions because I’m afraid of losing you. But maybe all those questions are pushing you farther away.”

Larry finally looks at her.

LARRY

“Maybe we do need some time to think.”

SCENE 6 — BETHANY PACKS HER BAG

Bethany enters the bedroom and begins packing a small bag. Every corner of the room reminds her of Larry.

Larry appears at the doorway.

LARRY

“How long are you staying?”

BETHANY

“Just a few days.”

Larry nods slowly.

LARRY

“Okay.”

Bethany looks at him emotionally.

BETHANY

“I hope when I come back, things can be different.”

LARRY

“I hope so too.”

SCENE 7 — THE GOODBYE

Bethany carries her bag toward the front door. Larry follows her.

She turns around and looks at him one last time.

BETHANY

“Larry, I hope we can remember who we used to be.”

Larry remains quiet for a moment.

LARRY

“I hope so too.”

Bethany opens the door and leaves. Larry watches as the door slowly closes.

The house suddenly feels much quieter without Bethany.

SCENE 8 — AT HER DAD’S HOUSE

Bethany arrives at her father’s house. Her father immediately notices that something is wrong.

DAD

“Bethany, what happened?”

BETHANY

“I just need to stay here for a few days.”

Her father welcomes her inside.

Later that night, Bethany sits near the window and looks at her phone.

She wonders whether Larry misses her as much as she misses him.

SCENE 9 — LARRY ALONE

Back at home, Larry sits alone on the couch.

The house feels different without Bethany. He remembers her morning conversations, her questions, and even their arguments.

Larry picks up his phone and opens Bethany’s contact.

After hesitating, he sends her a short message.

LARRY — TEXT
“Hope you’re okay.”

At her father’s house, Bethany’s phone lights up.

She reads the message and a small smile appears on her face.

For the first time in days, Bethany feels a little hope.

SCENE 10 — A NEW BEGINNING?

The next morning, Bethany wakes up feeling different.

She realizes that distance does not necessarily mean the end of a relationship. Sometimes, a little space can give two people the opportunity to think clearly and understand what they truly want.

Meanwhile, Larry stands in the kitchen and looks at an old photograph of himself and Bethany.

LARRY

“Maybe we can fix this.”

Bethany looks at Larry’s message again and smiles softly.

Neither of them knows what will happen next.
