The Replacement
The moment D’Nisha opened the bedroom door, she realized that everything she thought she knew about Wayne had been a lie.
For weeks, something had been changing between Imani and Wayne. At first, it was only small things. Imani would find reasons to talk to Wayne, and Wayne would smile whenever she walked into the room. Their conversations became longer, and sometimes they would quietly laugh together while everyone else was busy.
One afternoon, Imani was leaving after helping Wayne with some work when Wayne stopped her.
“Imani, wait.”
She turned around. “What happened?”
Wayne smiled. “I’ll give you a ride home.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I know. I want to.”
That simple sentence made Imani smile. From that day forward, they started spending more time together. Little by little, Imani began developing feelings for Wayne. Wayne felt the same, although neither of them wanted to say it directly.
One evening, Wayne invited Imani to his house. They sat together talking about their lives, their problems, and everything they had never told anyone else.
Imani looked at him. “I don’t know when this happened.”
“When what happened?”
“I started caring about you this much.”
Wayne became silent. Then he smiled. “I think I know exactly when it happened.”
Imani looked away, embarrassed. “You’re making me nervous.”
“I’m not trying to.”
They both laughed, but neither realized that their private moment was about to create a painful new chapter.
Meanwhile, D’Nisha had no idea what was happening. She was still working, still trusting Wayne, and still believing that her place beside him was secure.
The next day, Wayne made a decision. He called Imani to his house.
“I need to tell you something.”
Imani sat across from him. “What is it?”
Wayne took a breath. “I want you to work with me permanently.”
Imani looked surprised. “As what?”
Wayne smiled. “I’m thinking about making you my personal assistant.”
Imani’s eyes widened. “Really?”
“Yes.”
Imani hesitated. “But what about D’Nisha?”
Wayne paused. “I’ll handle that.”
Imani suddenly became uncomfortable. “Wayne, I don’t want anyone getting hurt because of me.”
“You’re not doing anything wrong.”
Wayne reached for her hand, and they looked at each other quietly.
At that exact moment, the bedroom door slowly opened.
D’Nisha Walks In
D’Nisha stood there. Nobody had heard her arrive. Her eyes immediately moved from Wayne to Imani.
Then she heard Wayne’s last words.
“I’ll replace D’Nisha and make you my personal assistant.”
D’Nisha froze. For several seconds, she couldn’t speak.
Wayne stood up. “D’Nisha…”
She shook her head. “No. You don’t have to explain.”
Imani quickly stood. “D’Nisha, please listen—”
“Listen to what?”
D’Nisha looked at Imani with tears in her eyes. “That you’re taking my place?”
Imani couldn’t answer.
D’Nisha turned toward Wayne. “I trusted you.”
Wayne lowered his voice. “It isn’t what you think.”
D’Nisha stared at him. “Then what is it?”
Wayne had no answer.
D’Nisha wiped her tears. “You didn’t even have the courage to tell me yourself.”
The room became completely silent.
Imani looked down, realizing how badly D’Nisha had been hurt.
D’Nisha walked toward the door.
Wayne followed her. “D’Nisha, wait.”
She stopped but didn’t turn around.
“I need some time.”
“You don’t have to leave like this.”
D’Nisha finally turned around. “Wayne, you already made your decision.”
Then she walked away.
Outside, D’Nisha sat alone and cried. She felt betrayed, embarrassed, and completely overwhelmed.
Instead of staying alone with those feelings, she called someone she trusted.
“I need you,” she whispered through tears. “Please come talk to me.”
A few minutes later, her friend arrived and sat beside her.
“You don’t have to face this alone.”
D’Nisha cried harder. “I thought Wayne would never do this to me.”
Her friend gently replied, “Someone else’s decision doesn’t decide your worth.”
D’Nisha slowly looked up.
Inside the house, Wayne was still standing near the doorway.
Imani looked at him. “Wayne, are you sure about this?”
Wayne didn’t answer immediately. For the first time, doubt appeared on his face.
He had wanted a new beginning with Imani. But now he realized that his decision had destroyed the trust of someone who had stood beside him for a long time.
The Mysterious Phone Call
Outside, D’Nisha was beginning to realize something even more important.
Maybe losing Wayne wasn’t the end of her story.
Maybe it was the beginning of a completely different one.
But before she could decide what to do next, her phone suddenly rang.
D’Nisha looked at the screen.
The name on the screen made her expression change instantly.
It was someone from Wayne’s past.
“You need to know the real reason Wayne replaced you.”
