SCENE 1: LARRY AND BETHANY’S BEDROOM — AFTERNOON

The room is quiet as Larry and Bethany sit together. Bethany suddenly smiles and turns toward Larry.

BETHANY

Larry, come on! Let’s go on a cruise today. I have something special planned for you.

Larry looks at her in surprise.

LARRY

A cruise? What for? Why do you want me to go on a cruise with you all of a sudden?

BETHANY

Just come with me, Larry. There’s a surprise waiting for you. You’ll have to see it with your own eyes.

LARRY

Bethany, I’m not going anywhere. Whatever surprise you have planned, you can forget about it. I’m not interested.

Bethany becomes angry and stands up.

BETHANY

Fine, Larry! If you don’t want to come with me, I’ll find someone else who will!

She storms out, slamming the door behind her.

SCENE 2: THE HALLWAY — BETHANY’S PLAN

Bethany walks down the hallway, furious. Suddenly, an idea comes to her mind.

BETHANY (THINKING)

If Larry refuses to come with me, I’ll take Purnell instead. Maybe then Larry will understand that he can’t keep treating me like I don’t matter.

She smiles determinedly and heads toward Purnell’s room.

SCENE 3: PURNELL’S BEDROOM — THE SURPRISE

Purnell is sitting on his bed when Bethany enters.

PURNELL

Bethany? What are you doing here? Is everything okay?

BETHANY

I wanted to ask you something. Would you come on a cruise with me?

PURNELL

A cruise? You want me to go with you?

BETHANY

Yes. I had planned to go with Larry, but he refused. I don’t want to waste the whole day because of him.

Purnell smiles at her.

PURNELL

If you want me there, then yes. I’ll go with you.

Bethany becomes excited and throws her arms around him.

BETHANY

Thank you, Purnell! At least someone knows how to make me feel wanted.

Purnell hugs her back. Suddenly, Larry appears at the doorway and sees them together.

LARRY

SCENE 4: PURNELL’S BEDROOM — LARRY EXPLODES

Larry storms into the room, his face filled with anger.

LARRY

So this is what you were planning, Bethany? You asked me to go on a cruise, and when I said no, you ran straight to him?

BETHANY

Larry, stop making a scene! You refused to come with me. Purnell simply agreed to join me.

LARRY

And you think hugging him like that is completely normal?

PURNELL

Larry, lower your voice. Nothing is going to get solved by shouting.

LARRY

Stay out of this! You had no business getting involved with my wife!

Larry suddenly attacks Purnell, punching him. Purnell tries to defend himself while Bethany desperately attempts to separate them.

BETHANY

Larry! Stop it! You’re going too far!

Larry ignores her and continues fighting. Bethany notices a wooden stick near the wall. In a moment of panic, she grabs it.

BETHANY

I told you to stop!

She strikes Larry with the stick. Larry loses consciousness and falls to the floor.

BETHANY

Larry? Wake up! Please, wake up!

She notices blood coming from his head and becomes terrified.

PURNELL

Bethany, what have you done?

BETHANY

Oh, my God! Purnell, he’s bleeding!

Purnell panics as he looks at Larry lying motionless.

PURNELL

We need to leave. If anyone sees us here, we’re finished!

Later that afternoon, Brooke walks toward Larry’s room. She knocks, but nobody answers.

BROOKE

She opens the door and freezes when she sees Larry lying unconscious on the floor with blood near his head.

BROOKE

Oh, my God! Larry! Can you hear me?

She immediately calls an ambulance.

BROOKE

Please hurry! My friend is unconscious, and he’s bleeding badly! I need an ambulance right away!

The paramedics arrive and rush Larry to the hospital. Brooke follows, frightened and worried.
