PURNELL, I WILL NEVER LET YOU GO! YOU BROUGHT A CALL GIRL, AND NOW LARRY REFUSES TO BE INTIMATE WITH ME!

PURNELL stared at the woman standing in front of him, her eyes filled with anger and hurt. She had reached the end of her patience, and this time, she wasn’t going to let him walk away without answering for what he had done.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Purnell, I will never let you go! Do you hear me? You brought a call girl into this situation, and now my marriage is falling apart. Larry won’t even be intimate with me anymore, and I believe your actions have something to do with it!”

Purnell’s expression hardened. He glanced toward the hallway, hoping nobody else had heard the confrontation, but his wife stepped closer before he could escape.

PURNELL: “Lower your voice! You don’t know what you’re talking about, and you’re making accusations you can’t prove.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Accusations? You think I’m making this up? Ever since this woman came into the picture, everything has changed. Larry barely looks at me the same way anymore. He avoids conversations, he avoids affection, and when I ask him what’s wrong, he shuts me out!”

Her voice trembled, but she refused to let the tears falling from her eyes weaken her determination.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “I keep asking myself what I did wrong. I wonder whether I’m not enough for my husband anymore. But now I’m beginning to understand that there are things happening behind my back, and you know more than you’re telling me.”

Purnell rubbed his forehead impatiently.

PURNELL: “Larry’s marriage is between Larry and his wife. Whatever problems they have, you cannot put all the blame on me.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Then explain why you brought that woman around us! Explain why you thought it was acceptable to bring a call girl into a situation that was already complicated!”

PURNELL: “Watch your words. You don’t even know the whole story.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Then tell me the whole story!”

The room fell silent.

Purnell opened his mouth, but no explanation came. That silence only made his wife angrier. She had expected him to deny everything, but she hadn’t expected him to look so uncomfortable when she demanded the truth.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “That’s what I thought. You have nothing to say because you know you’ve made a mess of everything.”

She turned away, pressing her fingers against her forehead as she tried to control her emotions.

For weeks, she had watched Larry grow distant. She had tried to speak with him, tried to understand his sudden coldness, and tried to convince herself that their relationship could return to normal. But every conversation ended with more questions than answers.

Now, she suspected that Purnell’s involvement with the mysterious woman had made an already painful situation even worse.

PURNELL: “You need to stop blaming everyone else for what Larry is doing. Have you actually asked him why he’s avoiding you?”

She immediately turned back toward him.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Of course I have! Do you think I would be standing here crying if I hadn’t tried to talk to my own husband? Every time I ask Larry why he won’t be close to me, he changes the subject. Sometimes he walks away. Other times, he tells me he’s tired and doesn’t want to argue.”

Her voice broke.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Do you know how humiliating that feels? To be married to someone and still feel as though you’re begging for a little love and attention?”

For the first time, Purnell seemed to understand that her anger was not simply about the woman he had brought into their circle. It was about the fear that her marriage was slipping away while everyone around her knew something she didn’t.

Yet he still refused to accept responsibility.

PURNELL: “I didn’t tell Larry to treat you that way.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “But you helped create this situation! And until I find out what really happened, I’m not letting this go.”

Purnell shook his head.

PURNELL: “You can’t force someone to stay in a relationship, and you certainly can’t force Larry to be intimate with you.”

The words struck her harder than he intended. She stared at him, stunned by his bluntness.

Then her expression changed.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “I know that. I’m not asking anyone to force Larry to do anything. I want honesty from my husband. I want to know why the man who once made me feel loved now acts as though being near me is a burden.”

She took a shaky breath.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “And I want to know what that woman has to do with all of this.”

Before Purnell could respond, a phone began vibrating on the table.

Both of them looked toward it.

Purnell moved quickly, but his wife noticed the name displayed on the screen before he picked it up.

It was Jade.

Her eyes widened.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Jade? Is that the woman you’ve been defending this entire time?”

PURNELL: “Give me the phone.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Why? Are you afraid I’ll discover something else?”

Purnell reached for the device, but she stepped aside, refusing to let him silence the conversation before she could understand what was happening.

The phone stopped ringing.

A moment later, a message appeared.

Purnell’s wife couldn’t read the entire message from where she stood, but she saw enough to notice that Jade wanted to speak with him urgently.

Purnell grabbed the phone and turned away.

PURNELL: “This has nothing to do with you.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Everything has something to do with me when it starts destroying my marriage!”

He looked at her sharply.

PURNELL: “You need to calm down before you make a decision you regret.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “No, Purnell. I’ve spent too long staying quiet because I didn’t want to cause trouble. Meanwhile, everybody else seems to know something about my life that I don’t.”

She picked up her handbag from the chair.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “I’m going to speak to Larry. And this time, I won’t accept another excuse.”

Purnell moved toward the doorway, blocking her path.

PURNELL: “Don’t drag Larry into this before you understand what’s happening.”

She looked directly into his eyes.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Then give me one good reason why I shouldn’t.”

He hesitated.

That was all she needed to see.

She stepped around him and walked out, leaving Purnell standing alone with Jade’s unanswered message glowing on his phone.

Across town, Larry sat quietly in his living room, staring at a photograph of himself and his wife from happier days. He remembered when they could talk for hours, when a simple embrace could reassure them that everything would be all right.

Now, even the thought of another difficult conversation made him exhausted.

He wasn’t ready to explain everything he felt, and he knew his silence was hurting his wife. But he also knew that pretending everything was fine would only make matters worse.

When the doorbell rang, he placed the photograph on the table and went to answer it.

His expression changed when he saw who was standing outside.

LARRY: “What are you doing here?”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “I need to talk to you, Larry. And I need you to tell me the truth.”

Larry glanced behind her, checking whether Purnell had followed.

LARRY: “Is this about Purnell?”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “It’s about Purnell, Jade, and why my marriage has become something I barely recognize.”

Larry’s jaw tightened at Jade’s name.

She noticed immediately.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “You know something, don’t you?”

LARRY: “You should be talking to your husband about this.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “I have talked to him! He refuses to give me answers. And every time I ask why you won’t be close to your wife anymore, I feel as though there’s something everyone is hiding from me.”

Larry looked away.

LARRY: “My marriage is complicated, and I don’t want to make things worse by getting involved in somebody else’s problems.”

PURNELL’S WIFE: “But you are already involved, Larry. Your distance has become part of this entire situation, and I need to understand why.”

For several seconds, Larry said nothing.

Then he stepped aside and allowed her to enter.

LARRY: “Sit down. There’s something you need to understand about me and my marriage. But before I tell you anything, you have to promise me that you won’t repeat my words without knowing the full story.”

She sat slowly, her heart pounding.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “I promise. Just tell me the truth.”

Larry took a deep breath, preparing to reveal what he had kept to himself for so long.

But before he could speak, his phone lit up with an incoming call.

The name on the screen was Jade.

Purnell’s wife stared at it, then looked at Larry.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Why is she calling you now?”

Larry didn’t answer. He silenced the phone, his face suddenly tense.

Then another message appeared.

He read it, and all the color seemed to drain from his expression.

LARRY: “Oh, no. She wasn’t supposed to tell you this way.”

Purnell’s wife rose from her seat.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Tell me what, Larry? What has Jade done?”

Larry looked at her, knowing that whatever he said next could change both their marriages forever.

And just as he finally began to speak, the front door opened behind them.

Purnell stood in the doorway.

His eyes moved from Larry to his wife, then settled on the phone in Larry’s hand.

PURNELL: “Larry, don’t you dare tell her what happened between me and Jade.”

Purnell’s wife froze.

Larry slowly lowered the phone.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “What happened between you and Jade?”

Neither man answered.

Then she noticed the fear in Purnell’s eyes, and for the first time, she realized that Larry’s silence might not have been the betrayal she had imagined.

It might have been a warning about something far worse.

PURNELL’S WIFE: “Both of you are going to tell me the truth right now. Because if Jade is the reason my marriage is falling apart, I want to hear it from the people who know exactly what happened.”

Purnell took one step forward, but Larry raised his hand to stop him.

LARRY: “No. She’s right. This has gone on long enough.”

Larry turned toward Purnell’s wife, ready to reveal the truth—but the moment he spoke Jade’s name, Purnell’s phone rang again.

This time, the call was coming from Jade herself.

And Purnell knew that if he answered it, the secret he had been desperately trying to protect might finally come out.
