Amber stands near the window, staring at the expensive surroundings. Her eyes reveal her amazement—and a growing desire to become part of Wayne’s new life.

AMBER

Wayne, this house is incredible. I had no idea you were living in a place like this.

WAYNE

I wanted a fresh start. After everything that happened, I needed a place where I could finally feel at peace.

Amber turns toward him with a warm smile, carefully hiding her true intentions.

AMBER

You really have changed, Wayne. You seem more confident now. Even the way you carry yourself is different.

WAYNE

Maybe I finally learned to focus on myself instead of trying to please everyone else.

AMBER

Perhaps I didn’t understand you back then.

Wayne studies her face. Old memories return, reminding him of the relationship they once shared.

WAYNE

We both made mistakes, Amber.

AMBER

I know. And sometimes I wonder what would have happened if we had given each other another chance.

Wayne has everything now. Maybe walking away from him was the biggest mistake I ever made.

She looks back at the house one last time before disappearing down the driveway.

SCENE 3: WAYNE’S BEDROOM — LATER THAT EVENING

Wayne sits alone on the edge of his bed, checking messages on his phone. His podcast schedule lies open beside him.

A gentle knock interrupts his thoughts.

WAYNE

Come in.

The door opens. Amber enters, dressed elegantly. She approaches him with a confident smile.

WAYNE

Amber? I thought you had already gone home.

AMBER

I did. But I kept thinking about our conversation.

WAYNE

What about it?

Amber sits beside him, leaving only a little space between them.

AMBER

About us. About everything we lost. I miss the way we used to talk. I miss feeling close to you.

Wayne looks away briefly. Their past is complicated, filled with affection and painful memories.

WAYNE

You know it wasn’t easy for me to move on.

AMBER

I know. And I’m not asking you to forget everything overnight. I’m only asking you to let me get close to you again.

WAYNE

Why now, Amber?

AMBER

Because seeing you again made me realize that my feelings never completely disappeared.

Wayne searches her face, trying to decide whether he believes her words.

AMBER

Don’t you ever wonder what it would be like if we started again?

WAYNE

Sometimes I do.

Amber smiles. She reaches for his hand, and Wayne gently holds it. Their old feelings begin to return.

I’ve missed you, Wayne.

WAYNE

Amber rests her head against his shoulder. Wayne puts an arm around her. They exchange a tender kiss and become absorbed in their private reunion, unaware that someone is about to interrupt them.

Dave arrives at Wayne’s house carrying his phone, a notebook, and a folder of podcast questions.

DAVE

Wayne said he’d be ready by seven. We’d better get this recording sorted out before it gets too late.

He rings the doorbell. Nobody answers. After knocking, Dave tries the door and discovers that it has not been fully closed.

DAVE

Wayne? You home?

Dave steps inside and walks through the elegant living room.

DAVE

Nice house, by the way! You really weren’t exaggerating!

He hears faint voices coming from down the hallway. Assuming Wayne is on the phone, Dave follows the sound.

He reaches the bedroom door. It is slightly open. Just as he raises his hand to knock, he hears Amber’s voice.

AMBER — OFF SCREEN

I don’t want us to lose each other again.

Dave freezes. He recognizes her voice immediately.

Slowly, he pushes the door open.

SCENE 5: THE SHOCKING DISCOVERY

The bedroom door swings inward. Dave looks inside and sees Wayne sitting close to Amber on the bed. Amber has her arms around him, and the two are sharing an intimate moment.

Dave’s eyes widen. The folder slips from his hand and crashes onto the floor.

DAVE

What…?

Amber turns toward the doorway. Her smile disappears instantly. Wayne looks up and sees Dave standing there in disbelief.

WAYNE

Dave!

Dave remains motionless, looking from Wayne to Amber and back again.

DAVE

Am I seeing this correctly?

Nobody answers. Amber quickly moves away from Wayne, suddenly aware of the situation.

AMBER

Dave, wait. This isn’t what you think.

DAVE

Really? Because from where I’m standing, it looks exactly like what I think.

Wayne stands up, desperately trying to explain.

WAYNE

Dave, listen to me. I can explain.

DAVE

Explain what, Wayne? That I walked into your house to discuss our podcast and discovered you having a romantic reunion with Amber?

Wayne opens his mouth, but no words come out.

AMBER

We were just talking. Things happened, and—

DAVE

Things happened? You knew I was coming here tonight. And you still decided to do this?

Amber lowers her eyes. For the first time, she has no convincing answer.

WAYNE

I didn’t plan any of this. Amber came over, and we started talking about our past. One thing led to another.

DAVE

You could have told me you were getting back together with her.

WAYNE

We’re not even sure what this means yet.

DAVE

Then perhaps you should have figured that out before I walked through the door!

His voice echoes through the room. An uncomfortable silence follows.

SCENE 6: DAVE WALKS AWAY

Dave bends down, picks up his folder, and straightens the papers with trembling fingers. His anger slowly gives way to disappointment.

DAVE

I came here because I thought we were going to work together tonight. I didn’t expect to discover a secret relationship.

WAYNE

Dave, please. Don’t make a decision while you’re angry.

DAVE

I’m not the one who needs to make a decision right now.

Dave glances at Amber, then turns toward the hallway.

DAVE

Maybe you two should decide what you actually want.

Amber looks toward Wayne, hoping he will defend their relationship. Wayne remains silent.

Dave heads toward the front door. Wayne follows him, desperate to stop the situation from getting worse.

WAYNE

Dave, wait!

Dave stops but does not turn around.

DAVE

The podcast can wait. I need some time to process what I just saw.

WAYNE

We’ll talk tomorrow!

DAVE

We’ll see.

Dave steps outside and closes the door behind him.

WAYNE

Neither did I.

Amber reaches for his hand.

AMBER

Wayne looks at her, uncertain. Only moments earlier, he had believed they might rebuild their relationship. Now, Dave’s shocked expression keeps replaying in his mind.

WAYNE

I don’t know, Amber. I honestly don’t know.

Amber’s smile fades. She begins to realize that reconnecting with Wayne may not be as simple as she imagined.

Wayne turns toward the window, staring at the distant city lights. He wonders whether he has reopened a chapter of his life that should have remained closed.
