1. A Night Filled With Fear

It was almost two in the morning. Under the harsh hospital lights, Genesis lay trembling on her bed, clutching her swollen belly as waves of pain swept through her. Tears slipped down her cheeks. Every few seconds, she looked toward the door, hoping someone would arrive with an answer that would make the fear disappear.

“Please,” she whispered, gripping the blanket. “Save my baby. Please tell me my baby is going to be okay.”

A doctor studied her chart, then turned toward her with a serious expression. He explained that there might be a problem with the amount of fluid surrounding the baby and that her condition required careful monitoring. The words sounded frightening, but his calm voice offered little comfort.

2. Answers That Never Matched

Genesis tried to sit up. “What does that mean? Is my baby in danger?”

“The baby may not be ready to be born yet,” the doctor replied. “We need to monitor you closely and give us time to understand what is happening.”

Minutes later, another doctor entered, checked the notes, and gave her a different explanation. The delivery might still be some time away, she said, and the medical team needed to keep watching both mother and baby.

Then another nurse mentioned a possible complication. Each new sentence seemed to contradict the last. Genesis heard the words, but panic twisted them into something far more sinister.

“One person says the fluid is low. Another says my baby isn’t ready. Why won’t anyone tell me the truth? What are they hiding from me?”

Her breathing quickened. The monitor beside her bed beeped steadily, but to Genesis it sounded like a countdown. She felt trapped between the pain in her body and the terrifying questions racing through her mind.

3. The Fear of Losing Her Baby

She reached for her phone, desperate to call Telly. It wasn’t there. She searched the bedside table, the blanket, and the small cabinet beside her bed, but found nothing. The one person she wanted to hear from was nowhere near her.

Without him, the room felt colder. Her thoughts turned darker with every passing second.

“What if Telly doesn’t want this baby? What if he’s told them to keep me here? What if they’re deliberately stopping my baby from being born?”

The thoughts frightened her, but she couldn’t make them stop. She had no proof that anyone was trying to harm her or her baby; fear simply made every unanswered question feel like evidence. When the doctor approached to check her monitor, Genesis recoiled.

“Don’t touch me!” she cried. “You’re all keeping something from me!”

“Genesis, listen to me,” the doctor said gently. “We are trying to keep you and your baby safe. I know you’re frightened, but you need to stay here while we assess what’s happening.”

She heard only one thing: they wanted her to stay.

4. The Desperate Escape

Suddenly, Genesis threw the blanket aside and climbed out of bed. Before anyone could stop her, she pulled at the monitoring leads and grabbed the IV stand for support. The tubing tugged at her arm as she staggered toward the door.

“I have to get my baby out of here!” she screamed. “You can’t keep us apart!”

A nurse rushed forward. “Genesis, please stop! You could hurt yourself!”

But Genesis was already running down the corridor, crying so hard she could barely see. The IV stand rattled behind her, and the attached lines swung dangerously as she pushed toward the main exit. Nurses hurried after her. The doctor called for help, and a hospital security officer joined the chase.

“Genesis! We want to help you!” someone shouted.

She shook her head and ran faster. “Lies! You’re all lying! Let me save my baby!”

Her legs trembled. Pain surged through her, but terror drove her forward. She wasn’t thinking about the machines, the tubes, or the danger of collapsing. In her frightened mind, the hospital had become a place she had to escape before it was too late.

5. The Phone Call

Near the main entrance, one of the nurses’ phones began to ring. She glanced at the screen and froze. The caller’s name was Telly.

As Genesis turned toward the sound, the nurse answered. A tense voice came through the speaker, loud enough for the people nearby to hear.

“Don’t let Genesis leave the hospital,” Telly said urgently. “Not until she knows the truth. She still hasn’t been told what really happened…”

Everything seemed to stop. Genesis stood in the corridor, tears shining on her face, one hand protectively over her belly. Even the staff fell silent.

Slowly, she turned toward the doctor. Her voice was barely more than a whisper.

“What truth?”

The doctor’s expression changed. For the first time that night, he looked genuinely afraid—not of Genesis running away, but of what might happen when she learned the secret.

THE FINAL TWIST

Suddenly, the fetal monitor blared an alarm.

Genesis stared at the doctor as the staff rushed toward her. Was her baby in danger—or was the truth about Telly even more frightening than she had imagined?
