BETHANY CATCHES LARRY AND SHARRA — A DEVASTATING BETRAYAL
Genre: Family Drama | Infidelity | Emotional Confrontation
Format: Cinematic Screenplay
Setting: Bethany and Larry’s House, Sharra’s House
SCENE 1 — BETHANY AND LARRY’S HOUSE — EVENING
The living room is quiet. Bethany sits on the couch, watching Larry as he scrolls through his phone. For days, she has noticed his strange behavior, unexplained absences, and sudden changes in his attitude.
She takes a deep breath and decides she can no longer keep her questions to herself.
BETHANY
Larry, I need you to answer something honestly. Please, don’t avoid the question this time.
Larry looks up briefly, then returns his attention to his phone.
LARRY
What is it now, Bethany? I’m tired. I don’t want another argument tonight.
Bethany stands and walks closer to him. Her eyes are filled with suspicion and hurt.
BETHANY
You keep disappearing, making excuses, and acting like I’m not supposed to notice anything. Tell me something, Larry. How do you satisfy your physical desires when you’re always pushing me away?
Larry freezes for a moment. His expression changes, but he quickly tries to hide it.
LARRY
What kind of question is that? Why would you even ask me something like that?
BETHANY
Because you’re my husband! I live with you. I see the way you behave. You barely speak to me anymore, and every time I ask where you’ve been, you become defensive.
Larry gets up from the couch and walks toward the hallway.
LARRY
I’m not discussing this with you. Believe whatever you want.
Bethany watches him leave. His refusal to answer makes her even more suspicious.
BETHANY
Larry, your silence is telling me more than your words ever could.
Larry stops briefly but doesn’t turn around. Then he walks into the bedroom and closes the door.
Bethany remains in the living room, realizing that something is terribly wrong with her marriage.
SCENE 2 — THE BEDROOM — LATER THAT NIGHT
Bethany sits on the edge of the bed while Larry prepares to sleep. The silence between them feels heavier than ever.
She looks at him, hoping he will finally tell her the truth.
BETHANY
Is there another woman?
Larry continues arranging his pillow, refusing to meet her eyes.
LARRY
I’m not answering that question.
BETHANY
You’re not answering because the answer is yes, aren’t you?
LARRY
I said I don’t want to talk about it!
Bethany rises from the bed, struggling to contain her emotions.
BETHANY
You know what hurts the most? It’s not even the possibility that you’re seeing someone else. It’s the fact that you can stand in front of me and act like I’m foolish for noticing.
Larry turns toward her, visibly irritated.
LARRY
You always assume the worst about me. Nothing I do is ever good enough for you.
BETHANY
Then prove me wrong! Look me in the eyes and tell me there’s nobody else.
Larry opens his mouth but says nothing. The silence stretches between them.
Bethany slowly shakes her head.
BETHANY
I understand now.
LARRY
Understand what?
BETHANY
That you have already made your decision. You just don’t have the courage to tell me.
Larry turns off the bedside lamp.
LARRY
I’m going to sleep.
Bethany stands motionless in the darkness. She realizes that begging for honesty will get her nowhere.
Tonight, she makes a decision of her own: she will discover the truth without asking Larry another question.
SCENE 3 — OUTSIDE THE HOUSE — THE FOLLOWING AFTERNOON
The next afternoon, Larry tells Bethany that he has an important errand to run.
He grabs his keys and heads toward the front door.
LARRY
I’ll be out for a while. Don’t wait for me to come home early.
Bethany looks up from the kitchen counter.
BETHANY
Where are you going?
Larry hesitates.
LARRY
I have something to take care of. I’ll explain later.
He leaves before she can ask anything else. Bethany watches through the window as he gets into his car.
Something about his hurried departure makes her uneasy. She waits a few minutes before taking her own keys.
BETHANY
(To herself) If you’re telling the truth, Larry, I have nothing to worry about. But if you’re lying to me, today I’m going to find out why.
She steps outside and gets into her car. Keeping a careful distance, Bethany follows Larry through several streets. Her heart pounds as he passes familiar stores and turns into a quiet residential neighborhood.
Then Larry pulls into the driveway of a house Bethany recognizes. It’s Sharra’s house.
Bethany grips the steering wheel.
BETHANY
Sharra? What is Larry doing at her house?
Larry gets out of his car and walks straight to the front door. A moment later, Sharra opens it and welcomes him inside.
Bethany stares in disbelief. For several seconds, she cannot move. Then she quietly gets out of her car.
SCENE 4 — SHARRA’S HOUSE — THE TRUTH EMERGES
Inside the house, Sharra closes the door behind Larry. She looks at him with a knowing expression.
SHARRA
I wasn’t sure you would come today.
LARRY
I told you I would. I just had to make sure Bethany wasn’t asking too many questions.
Sharra folds her arms.
SHARRA
And is she still suspicious?
Larry lets out a frustrated sigh.
LARRY
She’s asking questions I don’t want to answer. I think she knows something is wrong.
SHARRA
Then why don’t you tell her the truth?
Larry shakes his head.
LARRY
Because I’m not ready to deal with the consequences.
SHARRA
You can’t keep coming here and pretending everything is fine at home.
Larry reaches for her hand.
LARRY
I know. But when I’m with you, I don’t have to deal with all the arguments and questions.
SHARRA
And what about Bethany? Have you even thought about what this is doing to her?
Larry looks uncomfortable.
LARRY
I don’t want to talk about Bethany right now.
He draws Sharra into an intimate embrace, and she responds by holding him close. They kiss, making their relationship unmistakably clear.
Neither of them notices that the front door has been left slightly open.
Outside, Bethany approaches the entrance. She hears their voices and stops. Her hand trembles as she pushes the door open just enough to see inside.
What she witnesses leaves her devastated. Larry is holding Sharra closely, kissing her as though he has forgotten his marriage entirely.
Bethany covers her mouth, struggling to believe what she is seeing. Tears fill her eyes.
BETHANY
(Whispering) Oh, Larry… so this is how you’ve been satisfying your desires.
She takes a step backward. Her shoe makes a slight sound against the floor.
Larry suddenly turns toward the entrance.
LARRY
Who’s there?
Bethany freezes. Sharra releases Larry’s hand and looks toward the door. For one terrible second, nobody moves.
Then Bethany steps into view. Larry’s face loses its color.
LARRY
Bethany?
Sharra immediately moves away from him.
BETHANY
Don’t say my name like you’re surprised to see me. I should be the one who’s surprised.
SCENE 5 — THE CONFRONTATION — SHARRA’S LIVING ROOM
Bethany walks into the room, her eyes moving between Larry and Sharra. Her expression is no longer confused. The uncertainty that haunted her has finally disappeared, replaced by heartbreak and anger.
BETHANY
Yesterday, I asked you a simple question. I wanted to know if there was another woman in your life. You couldn’t even look me in the eyes.
Larry takes a step toward her.
LARRY
Bethany, please. Let me explain.
She immediately raises her hand.
BETHANY
Explain what? That you came here to see Sharra? That you lied to my face? Or that you expected me to stay at home while you carried on with another woman?
LARRY
It’s not as simple as you think.
BETHANY
Then make it simple for me, Larry. Tell me what I just saw.
Larry looks at Sharra, hoping she will say something. Sharra remains silent.
BETHANY
Why are you looking at her? I’m talking to you!
LARRY
I made a mistake.
BETHANY
A mistake? You didn’t accidentally drive to her house. You didn’t accidentally walk through that door. You knew exactly where you were going!
Larry lowers his head.
LARRY
I didn’t want you to find out this way.
BETHANY
You didn’t want me to find out at all. That’s the difference.
She turns toward Sharra.
BETHANY
And you? Did you know he was coming here while I was waiting for him at home?
SHARRA
Bethany, I never wanted things to turn out like this.
BETHANY
But you welcomed him into your home. You stood here with my husband. You knew he was married, and you still allowed this to happen.
Sharra has no immediate answer. Larry tries to approach Bethany again.
LARRY
Please, let’s go home. We can talk privately.
Bethany steps away from him.
BETHANY
Home? You want me to go home with you and pretend I didn’t see any of this?
LARRY
I still care about you.
BETHANY
If you cared about me, you would have respected me enough to tell me the truth.
Larry’s eyes fall to the floor. Bethany removes her wedding ring and holds it tightly in her palm.
BETHANY
I came here looking for answers. Now I have them.
She places the ring on a nearby table.
BETHANY
Don’t follow me, Larry. For once in your life, give me the space to decide what I want.
She turns and walks toward the door.
LARRY
Bethany, wait!
She stops without turning around.
BETHANY
You had so many chances to stop me from walking away. You chose silence every single time.
She leaves the house. Larry stands frozen while Sharra watches him anxiously.
SCENE 6 — OUTSIDE SHARRA’S HOUSE — THE HEARTBREAK
Bethany reaches her car, but she cannot bring herself to open the door immediately. She looks back at Sharra’s house through tear-filled eyes.
Every unexplained absence, every unanswered question, and every argument suddenly makes sense.
She wipes her cheeks and takes a long breath.
Her phone begins ringing. Larry’s name appears on the screen. She watches it ring but does not answer.
A message arrives moments later.
Please come back. We need to talk.
Bethany reads it, then slowly locks her phone.
BETHANY
(To herself) You wanted to keep me in the dark because you thought I would never discover the truth. But I know now, Larry. And nothing you say can make me unsee what happened today.
She starts the car and drives away. Inside the house, Larry watches through the window as her car disappears down the street.
Sharra approaches him cautiously.
SHARRA
What are you going to do now?
Larry remains silent.
SHARRA
Larry, you need to decide what you actually want. You can’t keep two women waiting while you avoid responsibility.
Larry turns toward her, his expression troubled.
LARRY
I never thought she would follow me.
SHARRA
That doesn’t change what happened.
Larry looks at the ring Bethany left behind. For the first time, he realizes that his secret has consequences he cannot simply ignore.
SCENE 7 — BETHANY’S HOUSE — NIGHT
Bethany sits alone in the living room. The house feels different now, as though every familiar object reminds her of the marriage she believed she had.
She picks up a framed photograph of herself and Larry. For a moment, she remembers happier days.
Then she places the photograph face down on the table.
The front door opens. Larry enters slowly.
LARRY
Bethany, can we please talk?
She remains seated.
BETHANY
You can talk. I’ve spent enough time listening to your silence.
Larry sits across from her.
LARRY
I know I hurt you. I know what you saw was wrong. But I don’t want our marriage to end.
Bethany looks at him, exhausted.
BETHANY
You should have thought about our marriage before you went to Sharra’s house.
LARRY
I made a terrible decision.
BETHANY
No, Larry. You made several decisions. You decided to lie. You decided to hide the truth. And when I gave you a chance to be honest, you refused.
Larry has nothing to say.
Bethany stands and looks toward the hallway.
BETHANY
I’m not making any promises tonight. I need time to think about my future and whether I can ever trust you again.
LARRY
Does that mean you’re leaving me?
Bethany turns back toward him.
BETHANY
It means you don’t get to decide what happens next. You’ve made enough decisions for both of us.
She walks toward the bedr
