SCENE 1 — OFFICE BUILDING — MORNING
The morning rush fills the busy American office building.
Employees walk through the glass entrance carrying coffee cups, folders, and laptops.
BROOKE steps inside quietly.
She is dressed professionally, carrying a small bag and looking determined.
She pauses for a moment and takes a deep breath.
Today is supposed to be the beginning of something new for her.
Brooke walks toward the elevators.
Her expression is calm, but there is a trace of nervousness in her eyes.
SCENE 2 — OFFICE FLOOR — MOMENTS LATER
The elevator doors open.
Brooke steps onto the office floor.
She looks around.
People are already busy at their desks.
She notices a receptionist pointing toward a private cabin.
Brooke nods politely and walks in that direction.
A few employees glance at her as she passes.
Brooke enters the cabin assigned to her.
She places her bag beside the chair.
Then she sits down.
For the first time that morning, she smiles.
She opens her laptop and begins organizing the papers on the desk.
Everything seems normal.
But Brooke has no idea that someone is about to walk through that door.
SCENE 3 — BROOKE’S OFFICE — LATER
Brooke types something on her laptop.
She looks focused.
A few documents sit neatly beside her.
She checks her phone, then places it face down on the desk.
She wants to prove that she belongs here.
She wants to show everyone that she can handle the job.
Suddenly—
The sound of footsteps approaches from the hallway.
Brooke doesn’t look up at first.
The footsteps stop outside her cabin.
A shadow appears through the glass.
Brooke slowly raises her eyes.
GREG is standing outside.
His expression changes the moment he sees her.
He stares through the glass.
His jaw tightens.
For several seconds, he says nothing.
Brooke notices him.
Her smile disappears.
She sits up straight.
SCENE 4 — BROOKE’S CABIN — CONTINUOUS
Greg opens the door.
He walks inside without waiting for an invitation.
Brooke watches him carefully.
There is immediate tension in the room.
Greg looks around the cabin.
Then his eyes return to Brooke.
He cannot believe what he is seeing.
GREG
Who hired you?
Brooke looks confused.
She slowly closes her laptop.
BROOKE
What?
Greg takes another step toward her.
His voice becomes sharper.
GREG
I asked you a question.
Who hired you to work here?
Brooke remains seated.
She tries to keep her composure.
BROOKE
I was told I could work here.
Greg lets out a frustrated breath.
He shakes his head.
GREG
That doesn’t answer my question.
Brooke looks directly at him.
BROOKE
I was given permission to be here.
Greg’s expression becomes even more serious.
GREG
Permission from who?
Brooke hesitates.
She knows the conversation is becoming uncomfortable.
BROOKE
Why does it matter?
Greg immediately responds.
GREG
Because this is my office.
The room becomes silent.
Brooke looks around.
BROOKE
I didn’t know there was a problem.
Greg points toward the door.
GREG
There is a very big problem.
SCENE 5 — BROOKE’S CABIN — MOMENTS LATER
Brooke slowly stands.
She doesn’t want to create a scene.
BROOKE
Greg, I came here to work.
Greg stares at her.
GREG
Then you came to the wrong place.
Brooke’s face changes.
She wasn’t expecting that.
BROOKE
What are you talking about?
Greg steps closer.
His voice remains firm.
GREG
I’m talking about you leaving.
Brooke looks shocked.
BROOKE
Leaving?
GREG
Yes.
He points toward the hallway.
GREG
Get your things and go.
Brooke doesn’t move.
BROOKE
You can’t just tell me to leave.
Greg folds his arms.
GREG
I just did.
Brooke looks toward the desk.
Her eyes briefly fall on the laptop she had just opened.
She had barely started her first day.
Now everything is suddenly falling apart.
SCENE 6 — OFFICE HALLWAY — CONTINUOUS
The argument has become loud enough for people outside to notice.
Several employees look toward the cabin.
Nobody says anything.
Brooke steps toward the door.
She lowers her voice.
BROOKE
Why are you doing this?
Greg follows her into the hallway.
GREG
Because you shouldn’t be here.
Brooke turns around.
BROOKE
Who decided that?
Greg pauses.
For the first time, his confidence seems to weaken.
Brooke notices.
BROOKE
You didn’t even ask why I came.
Greg looks away for a moment.
Then he turns back.
GREG
I don’t need to ask.
BROOKE
Yes, you do.
A few employees quietly watch the confrontation.
Brooke takes a breath.
She refuses to let herself become intimidated.
BROOKE
I came here because I was offered an opportunity.
Greg’s expression hardens.
GREG
And I’m telling you that opportunity is over.
SCENE 7 — BROOKE’S CABIN — MINUTES LATER
Brooke returns to her desk.
She begins gathering her belongings.
Her hands move slowly.
She picks up her notebook.
Then her phone.
Then the few papers she had arranged so carefully.
Greg remains near the door.
He watches her.
Brooke suddenly stops.
She looks at him.
BROOKE
You know what hurts?
Greg says nothing.
BROOKE
I came here believing I could actually do something for myself.
Greg’s expression remains guarded.
BROOKE
I didn’t come here to cause problems.
Greg finally speaks.
GREG
Then you should have thought about that before coming here.
Brooke looks down.
She closes her bag.
Then she stands.
BROOKE
I still deserve to know why.
Greg doesn’t answer immediately.
The silence says more than his words could.
Brooke studies his face.
BROOKE
This isn’t really about the job, is it?
Greg’s eyes narrow.
GREG
Just leave, Brooke.
Her suspicion grows.
SCENE 8 — OFFICE HALLWAY — CONTINUOUS
Brooke walks out of the cabin with her bag.
She stops near the hallway.
Greg follows behind her.
BROOKE
If you wanted me gone, you could have spoken to me like a normal person.
Greg looks at her.
GREG
I’m not going to argue with you.
BROOKE
You’re not arguing because you don’t have an explanation.
Several employees lower their eyes, pretending not to listen.
Greg notices them.
His frustration rises.
GREG
Brooke, enough.
BROOKE
No.
She shakes her head.
BROOKE
You walked into my office and demanded that I leave without even giving me a reason.
Greg steps closer.
GREG
Because I don’t want you working here.
Brooke’s eyes widen.
BROOKE
Why?
Greg remains silent.
Brooke waits.
Nothing.
BROOKE
That’s what I thought.
SCENE 9 — OFFICE RECEPTION AREA — MOMENTS LATER
Brooke walks toward the reception desk.
She is trying to hold herself together.
The receptionist looks at her sympathetically.
Brooke gives a small nod.
Then she turns back toward Greg.
BROOKE
I’m leaving today.
She pauses.
BROOKE
But this isn’t finished.
Greg watches her.
GREG
What does that mean?
Brooke tightens her grip on her bag.
BROOKE
It means I’m going to find out who made this decision.
Greg’s expression changes.
Brooke notices his reaction.
She becomes even more suspicious.
BROOKE
And when I do, I’ll know exactly why you wanted me out.
Greg doesn’t respond.
Brooke turns and walks toward the elevator.
SCENE 10 — OFFICE ELEVATOR — CONTINUOUS
The elevator doors open.
Brooke steps inside.
She turns around.
Greg is still standing in the hallway.
The two stare at each other.
Neither says a word.
The elevator doors begin closing.
Just before they shut completely, Brooke speaks.
BROOKE
You should have given me the truth.
The doors close.
Greg remains frozen in the hallway.
SCENE 11 — OFFICE FLOOR — MOMENTS LATER
The hallway becomes quiet again.
Employees return to their desks.
Greg walks back toward Brooke’s cabin.
He enters the empty office.
Her chair is pushed back.
The laptop is gone.
A few papers remain on the desk.
Greg stares at them.
His anger slowly turns into concern.
He picks up one document.
His eyes scan the page.
Something catches his attention.
His expression changes.
GREG
No…
He puts the document down.
For the first time, Greg looks worried.
He walks toward the window.
Outside, Brooke is visible leaving the building.
Greg watches her disappear through the entrance.
SCENE 12 — OUTSIDE THE OFFICE — DAY
Brooke exits the building.
She stops on the sidewalk.
She looks back at the office.
Her eyes are filled with disappointment, but there is also determination.
She takes out her phone.
She scrolls through her contacts.
Her finger stops over a name.
She hesitates.
Then she presses CALL.
The phone rings.
Brooke waits.
Someone answers.
BROOKE
I need to ask you something.
She listens.
Her expression becomes more serious.
BROOKE
Who told Greg that I wasn’t supposed to work there?
A pause.
Brooke’s eyes widen slightly.
Whatever she hears wasn’t what she expected.
BROOKE
Are you sure?
She listens again.
Her grip tightens around the phone.
BROOKE
Okay.
She ends the call.
Brooke looks back at the office one more time.
Now she knows there is more to the situation than Greg simply not wanting her there.
SCENE 13 — GREG’S CABIN — SAME TIME
Greg remains alone inside the office.
His phone suddenly rings.
He looks at the screen.
His expression changes.
He answers.
GREG
Hello?
He listens.
His face becomes tense.
GREG
She already left.
Another pause.
Greg looks toward the empty doorway.
GREG
I did what you asked.
He listens again.
His eyes narrow.
GREG
No.
A long silence.
GREG
You never told me she would find out.
Greg lowers the phone slightly.
He realizes the situation may have become much bigger than he expected.
He looks toward the window.
Brooke is already gone.
GREG
This is going to come back on all of us.
He ends the call.
SCENE 14 — CITY STREET — LATER
Brooke walks down the sidewalk.
The noise of the city surrounds her.
She looks at her phone again.
There is a new message.
She opens it.
Her expression changes.
Whatever the message says, it confirms her suspicion.
Someone wanted her out of that office.
And Greg wasn’t acting alone.
Brooke slowly puts the phone away.
She takes a deep breath.
Her disappointment is gone.
Now she is determined.
BROOKE
Someone better have a good explanation.
She continues walking.
Behind her, the office building disappears into the distance.
But the mystery surrounding her sudden removal from the job is only beginning.
