When Piarry Takes Shayla to the Cemetery

WHEN PIARRY TAKES SHAYLA TO THE CEMETERY

A Painful Truth About Iman

INT. SHAYLA’S HOUSE – LATE AFTERNOON
The house is unusually quiet.
SHAYLA sits on the edge of the couch, staring at the floor. Her eyes are tired. She looks as if she has been carrying a heavy burden for days.
PIARRY enters slowly. She watches Shayla for a moment before speaking.
PIARRY

Shayla, I need you to come with me.

Shayla looks up, confused.
SHAYLA

Where are we going?

PIARRY

Somewhere you need to be right now.

Shayla notices the sadness in Piarry’s eyes. She immediately becomes worried.
SHAYLA

Piarry… what happened?

Piarry doesn’t answer. She simply walks toward the door. After a moment, Shayla follows.
EXT. CEMETERY – EVENING
The sun is beginning to disappear behind the trees. A cool breeze moves through the cemetery.
Piarry and Shayla walk slowly between the graves. Shayla looks around nervously.
SHAYLA

Piarry, please tell me what’s going on.

Piarry stops walking. She turns toward Shayla. Her expression is serious.
PIARRY

Shayla… I brought you here because I need you to accept something very difficult.

SHAYLA

What are you talking about?

Piarry looks toward one of the graves. She struggles to find the right words.
PIARRY:
Iman has left you forever.
Shayla freezes. Her eyes widen. For a moment, she can’t speak.
SHAYLA

What?

PIARRY

Iman is gone from your life, Shayla.

SHAYLA

No… that can’t be true.

She takes a step backward.
SHAYLA

You told me Iman was just going through a difficult time.

PIARRY

I know.

SHAYLA

Then why are you telling me this now?

PIARRY

Because you need to understand that things have changed.

Shayla’s eyes begin to fill with tears.
SHAYLA

I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.

PIARRY

You have to keep going.

SHAYLA

How am I supposed to keep going when I feel like everything is falling apart?

PIARRY

Because your life is still yours.

Shayla lowers her head. A long silence follows. The wind moves through the trees.
PIARRY

Shayla, you cannot spend the rest of your life waiting for someone who is no longer going to be beside you.

SHAYLA

I thought Iman would always be there.

PIARRY

Sometimes the people we expect to stay forever don’t stay.

SHAYLA

Then what do I have left?

PIARRY

You have yourself.

PIARRY

And that’s something you cannot forget.

PIARRY

Now you need to start taking care of yourself and your life.

SHAYLA

I’ve forgotten how to do that.

PIARRY

Then learn again.

PIARRY

One day at a time.

SHAYLA

But everything reminds me of Iman.

PIARRY

That’s because you cared deeply.

SHAYLA

I don’t know if I’ll ever stop feeling this pain.

PIARRY

You don’t have to force yourself to forget.

PIARRY

You just have to learn how to move forward.

PIARRY

You deserve to have a life beyond this sadness.

A NEW CHAPTER
SHAYLA

What do you mean?

PIARRY

Maybe it’s time for you to think about a new life.

SHAYLA

A new life?

PIARRY

Yes. And someday, when you’re ready, you should look for a new life partner.

SHAYLA

A new life partner?

PIARRY

I’m not saying you have to do it today.

SHAYLA

I don’t think I can even think about that right now.

PIARRY

Then don’t.

PIARRY

But don’t close your heart forever either.

SHAYLA

It feels wrong to think about another person.

PIARRY

Moving forward doesn’t mean you didn’t care about Iman.

PIARRY

It means you’re choosing to continue living your life.

SHAYLA

I’m scared.

Piarry pulls Shayla into a gentle hug. Shayla finally lets herself cry. Piarry stays beside her.
EXT. CEMETERY – SUNSET
The sky is darker now. Shayla slowly steps away from Piarry. She looks toward the cemetery, lost in thought.
SHAYLA

I keep wondering what my life is going to look like now.

PIARRY

You don’t have to know the answer tonight.

SHAYLA

What if I make the wrong choices?

PIARRY

Then you learn from them.

PIARRY:
Your life isn’t over because one chapter ended. There’s still another chapter waiting for you.
SHAYLA

I don’t know if I’m ready.

PIARRY

You don’t have to be ready for everything. Just be ready to take the next step.

SHAYLA

I’ll try.

PIARRY

That’s all I want from you.

Piarry places an arm around Shayla. Together, they begin walking away from the cemetery.
Shayla looks back one last time. Her expression remains sad. But this time, there is determination in her eyes.
She knows the road ahead will not be easy. She knows she will still miss Iman. But somewhere deep inside, she understands what Piarry was trying to tell her.
She cannot change the past.
She cannot force someone to stay.
But she can choose what happens next.
Piarry and Shayla continue walking as the last light of the day disappears.

FADE OUT.
