1. The Secret Behind the Window
Golden rays of sunlight spread across the grass outside the house, but on the other side of the window glass, a dreadful silence hung in the room. Bethany stood right behind the window, nestled in the soft shadow of the curtain. Her heart was pounding wildly in her chest, and her eyes were fixed on Larry, who was standing outside, comfortably holding the phone to his ear.
On the other end of the line was Purnell—the very same Purnell whom Bethany had always considered her biggest sympathizer, her true friend, and someone who would stand by her in tough times.
Whenever Bethany felt tension in her relationship with Larry, she had always trusted Purnell. She believed Purnell would reason with Larry, try to make things better, and play the role of a true friend to save their marriage.
But today, the window glass had unmasked a reality she hadn’t imagined even in her dreams.

Speaking on the phone, Larry said in a rather harsh and definitive tone:
Although Purnell’s voice was faint through the phone’s speaker, his words reached Bethany’s ears loud and clear. Instead of stopping or reasoning with Larry, Purnell was endorsing his decision and telling him how to move forward.

Third, gathering evidence: From now on, she would keep a sharp eye on every phone call, document, and conversation. She had to prove how Purnell was misleading Larry and driving wedges into their relationship.

Larry ended the call, and as he turned around and headed toward the door to come inside, Bethany put on a smooth, subtle smile and walked toward the kitchen.
There was no hesitation in her steps.
