The House That Wasn’t Hers
The front door opened.
Amber stepped inside—and froze.
A massive living room, sparkling chandelier, elegant furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows stretched before her.
Dave stood behind her, holding a small velvet box.
“Dave… what is this?”
Dave smiled nervously.
“It’s yours.”
Amber stared at him, completely stunned.
“What do you mean, mine?”
Dave handed her a set of keys.
“I bought you this house.”
Amber covered her mouth, overwhelmed by the surprise.
But neither of them noticed the dark SUV stopping across the street.
Inside it, Anthony was staring at the house.
And in his hand was a folder that could take everything away.
INT. LUXURY HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — EVENING
Amber slowly walked through the house, touching the furniture as if she couldn’t believe it was real.
“You actually did this?”
“You always wanted a place where you could feel safe and independent.”
Amber turned toward him with tears in her eyes.
“This is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever done for me.”
Dave pulled her into a warm hug.
For a moment, everything felt perfect.
But Dave’s smile faded when he looked toward the window.
“There’s just one thing.”
Amber looked at him.
“What?”
Dave hesitated.
“I haven’t told you everything about how I bought it.”
Before Amber could ask another question, the doorbell rang.
INT. LUXURY HOUSE — FRONT DOOR — NIGHT
Dave opened the door.
Anthony stood outside.
His expression was cold.
“We need to talk.”
Dave immediately stepped outside and closed the door behind him.
“What are you doing here?”
Anthony held up the folder.
“I found out about the house.”
Dave’s face changed.
“Anthony, this isn’t your business.”
“It became my business when I discovered where the money came from.”
Dave stared at him.
“What are you talking about?”
Anthony opened the folder.
“The money used to purchase this property came from marital funds.”
Dave went silent.
“That doesn’t mean Amber can’t have the house.”
“You don’t get to decide that by yourself.”
Anthony turned toward the house.
Through the window, Amber was watching them.
Her smile slowly disappeared.
INT. LUXURY HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — NIGHT
Dave and Anthony entered.
Amber stood waiting.
“What’s happening?”
Anthony placed the documents on the table.
“This house isn’t simply a gift from Dave.”
Amber looked at Dave.
“Is that true?”
Dave lowered his eyes.
“I wanted to tell you.”
“Then tell me now.”
Dave took a breath.
“Some of the money came from an account that Anthony says is marital property.”
Amber stepped back.
“So you gave me something that wasn’t completely yours to give?”
Dave struggled to answer.
“I thought I could fix it.”
“You should have thought before buying the property.”
Amber looked at the keys in her hand.
The excitement was gone.
EXT. LUXURY HOUSE — NIGHT
Several officials arrived outside the property.
Amber stood on the porch, confused and frightened.
Anthony spoke to one of them while Dave argued nearby.
“You can’t just take the house!”
Anthony turned toward him.
“No one is taking it permanently tonight. The property is being sealed until ownership and the source of the funds are legally determined.”
Amber stared at the front door.
“But where am I supposed to go?”
Dave looked at her helplessly.
“Amber, I’m sorry.”
An official placed a notice on the door.
Amber’s eyes filled with tears.
She slowly handed the keys back to Dave.
“I never asked for this.”
“I know.”
Anthony watched silently.
But there was something else bothering him.
He pulled another document from the folder.
EXT. HOUSE — DRIVEWAY — NIGHT
Dave noticed the document in Anthony’s hand.
“What is that?”
Anthony didn’t answer immediately.
He studied the page carefully.
“The purchase agreement.”
Dave’s expression tightened.
“So?”
Anthony pointed to a signature.
“This isn’t your signature.”
Dave stared at the page.
His face went pale.
“That’s impossible.”
Amber looked between them.
“Then whose signature is it?”
Anthony slowly turned the document around.
At the bottom was a name neither of them expected to see.
Everyone fell silent.
“She was never supposed to know about this.”
Amber’s eyes widened.
“Who?”
Anthony looked toward the sealed house.
Then he said quietly:
“The person who really arranged the purchase…”
A car suddenly stopped at the end of the driveway.
The headlights illuminated everyone.
The driver’s door opened.
But before anyone could see who had arrived, Anthony quickly folded the document and stepped back.
“Whatever you do, don’t let that person inside.”
Amber stared into the darkness.
And then she recognized the voice coming from the car.
“Amber… we need to talk.”
WHO REALLY BOUGHT THE HOUSE?
