SHARRA TRIES TO STOP BROOKE — LARRY STEPS IN TO PROTECT HER
Genre: Family Drama | Emotional Conflict | Confrontation
Format: Cinematic Screenplay
Setting: Larry’s House — Living Room and Front Entrance
SCENE 1 — LARRY’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON
The house is quiet when Brooke walks toward the front door with her belongings. She looks determined to leave, but sadness is visible in her eyes.
Before she can step outside, Sharra rushes into the hallway and stands directly in front of her. Sharra folds her arms, refusing to move.
SHARRA
You are not going anywhere, Brooke. I am not going to let you leave this house before we settle this matter.
Brooke stops and looks at Sharra in disbelief.
BROOKE
Sharra, please move. I have already made my decision, and I don’t want to argue with you.
SHARRA
I don’t care what decision you’ve made. You cannot just walk away whenever you feel like it. You’re going to listen to me first.
Brooke tightens her grip on her bag.
BROOKE
You don’t get to decide where I go or what I do with my life. Please let me pass.
SHARRA
I said you’re not leaving! Do you understand me?
Brooke takes a deep breath, trying to remain calm. She does not want another argument, but Sharra’s behavior makes it difficult for her to keep her composure.
Neither woman notices that Larry has entered the hallway behind them. He stops when he hears Sharra raising her voice. Larry listens for a moment, his expression becoming increasingly serious.
SCENE 2 — LARRY HEARS EVERYTHING
Larry walks closer to the two women.
LARRY
What’s going on here?
Sharra turns around, surprised to see him. Brooke looks relieved, but she remains silent.
SHARRA
Larry, I’m trying to stop Brooke from leaving. She thinks she can do whatever she wants without listening to anyone.
LARRY
And why exactly are you stopping her?
SHARRA
Because somebody needs to make her understand that she can’t keep making these decisions on her own. She needs to stay here and listen to what we’re telling her.
Larry’s expression hardens.
LARRY
You think you can stand in front of that door and decide whether Brooke is allowed to leave?
SHARRA
I’m trying to help her! Why are you making it sound like I’m doing something wrong?
Larry steps between Sharra and Brooke.
LARRY
Because you’re not helping her by forcing her to stay. You’re making the situation worse.
Brooke watches Larry carefully. She has heard people argue about her before, but she is surprised that Larry is finally speaking up for her.
SHARRA
So you’re going to take her side again? You’re going to let her walk away without answering for anything?
LARRY
This isn’t about taking sides. It’s about treating Brooke with respect. If you want to talk to her, then talk to her. But you don’t get to control her.
SCENE 3 — SHARRA CHALLENGES LARRY
Sharra lets out a frustrated laugh.
SHARRA
You have no idea what you’re doing, Larry. You’re protecting Brooke so much that she thinks nobody can tell her anything.
LARRY
I know exactly what I’m doing. I’m trying to stop this argument before it gets any worse.
SHARRA
Then tell her to stay! Tell her she cannot leave until we finish this conversation!
Larry immediately shakes his head.
LARRY
No. I’m not going to force Brooke to stay somewhere she doesn’t want to be.
Brooke lowers her eyes, emotional at hearing Larry defend her.
SHARRA
You see what you’ve done? Now Larry thinks he has to protect you from everybody!
LARRY
Don’t put this on Brooke. You’re the one who decided to block the door.
SHARRA
And what are you going to do about it?
The room falls silent. Larry stares at Sharra, his patience wearing thin.
LARRY
I’m going to make sure Brooke can leave without being threatened or pressured. That’s what I’m going to do.
Sharra looks stunned by his response.
SCENE 4 — “WHO ARE YOU TO STOP ME?”
Brooke slowly moves toward Larry, keeping her bag close to her side. Sharra notices and quickly turns back toward her.
SHARRA
Brooke, don’t you dare walk away while I’m talking to you!
Larry immediately steps forward, standing between them again.
LARRY
Sharra, enough!
His voice echoes through the hallway. Sharra stares at him angrily.
SHARRA
You need to stay out of this, Larry. This is between me and Brooke!
LARRY
No, it became my business when you started trying to stop her from leaving.
SHARRA
You act like you’re the only person who cares about Brooke!
LARRY
I’m not saying that. But caring about somebody doesn’t mean you get to control every decision they make.
Sharra turns away for a moment before facing him again.
SHARRA
You’re making a big mistake by defending her like this.
Larry steps closer, his voice firm and unmistakable.
LARRY
I’m protecting Brooke, and I don’t care how angry you get about it. Who are you to stop me from protecting her?
Brooke looks at Larry with surprise.
LARRY
If somebody has a problem with Brooke, they can come and talk to me calmly. Nobody needs to stand in her way and turn everything into a fight.
SHARRA
So now everybody has to come through you?
LARRY
No. Everybody needs to learn how to talk without trying to control someone else.
SCENE 5 — BROOKE SPEAKS UP
Brooke finally finds the courage to speak.
BROOKE
Sharra, I never wanted this to become an argument. I just wanted to leave peacefully.
SHARRA
Then why didn’t you listen to me in the first place?
BROOKE
Because listening to you doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything you say. You can tell me how you feel, but you cannot make every decision for me.
Larry watches Brooke, allowing her to speak for herself.
BROOKE
I’m tired of everyone arguing about where I should go, who I should talk to, and what I should do. I’m a person, Sharra. I have feelings, too.
Her voice trembles slightly.
BROOKE
Nobody even asks me what I want. Everybody just tells me what I’m supposed to do.
Larry’s expression softens.
LARRY
Brooke, you have every right to explain how you feel. Nobody should make you feel like your voice doesn’t matter.
SHARRA
Fine! I’m the bad person now. That’s what everybody wants me to believe.
LARRY
Nobody said that. But you need to understand that you cannot solve a problem by creating another one.
Sharra looks away, unable to respond immediately.
SCENE 6 — LARRY GIVES SHARRA A WARNING
Larry turns toward Sharra, his expression serious.
LARRY
Listen to me carefully, Sharra. If you have something to say to Brooke, you can say it respectfully. If you disagree with her decision, you can explain why.
He pauses before continuing.
LARRY
But you are not going to stand in front of her and tell her she isn’t allowed to leave. I won’t support that.
SHARRA
And what if I still disagree with you?
LARRY
You’re allowed to disagree. I’m not asking you to agree with everything I say. I’m asking you to stop turning this into a confrontation.
Brooke quietly adjusts her bag and looks toward the front door. Larry notices.
LARRY
Brooke, if you’re ready to go, you can make your decision. You don’t have to stay here just because someone is angry with you.
Brooke nods, grateful for his support.
BROOKE
Thank you, Larry. I just wanted somebody to listen to me for once.
LARRY
I hear you, Brooke. And you deserve to be heard.
Sharra watches them, her anger mixed with disappointment.
SCENE 7 — BROOKE WALKS AWAY
Brooke walks toward the entrance. This time, Sharra does not block her path.
At the doorway, Brooke stops and looks back at Sharra.
BROOKE
I don’t want us to keep fighting. But I need you to understand that I have to make my own decisions.
Sharra remains silent.
BROOKE
When you’re ready to talk to me without shouting or trying to stop me, I’ll listen.
Brooke turns toward the door. Larry follows a few steps behind her, making sure the confrontation does not begin again.
Sharra suddenly speaks.
SHARRA
Larry!
He stops and turns around.
SHARRA
Don’t think this conversation is over. You might believe you’re doing the right thing, but you’re only making Brooke more determined to go against everybody.
LARRY
Maybe you should ask yourself why she feels the need to walk away in the first place.
Sharra’s mouth opens, but no words come out. Larry turns and continues toward the entrance.
Brooke steps outside, finally able to leave without another confrontation.
LARRY
Next time you have something to say to Brooke, talk to her with respect. Don’t try to force her to do what you want.
He walks out and closes the door behind him.
Sharra remains alone in the hallway, furious that Larry challenged her in front of Brooke. She looks toward the closed door, shaking her head.
SHARRA
This isn’t over, Larry. You think you can protect Brooke from everybody, but we’ll see how long that lasts.
Outside, Brooke stands beside Larry, taking a deep breath.
BROOKE
I thought she was never going to let me leave.
LARRY
You shouldn’t have to fight just to have someone listen to you. Whatever happens next, we’ll deal with it one step at a time.
Brooke nods, still shaken by the confrontation.
As they walk away from the house, Larry knows Sharra will not forget what happened. And inside, Sharra is already thinking about what she will do next.
