MARIAH CALLS THE POLICE ON ISAIAH

SCENE 1 — THE SHOCKING NEWS

INT. HOPE AND FAITH’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON

Mariah sits quietly on the couch, staring at her phone. Suddenly, a message catches her attention. Her expression changes immediately when she realizes that Isaiah has called Brooke back and wants her in Philly.

MARIAH
“Wait… Isaiah called Brooke back?”

Hope looks toward Mariah and immediately notices the anger building in her face.

HOPE
“Mariah, you need to calm down and think about what is really happening.”

MARIAH
“Calm down? After everything Isaiah told me?”

Faith sits beside Hope and looks at Mariah seriously.

FAITH
“We tried telling you before. Isaiah has been playing games with both of you.”

MARIAH
“So he sent me away just so he could bring Brooke back?”

HOPE
“That is what it looks like.”

Mariah stands up suddenly, gripping her phone tightly.

MARIAH
“I knew something wasn’t right.”

SCENE 2 — CAMERON TELLS MARIAH THE TRUTH

INT. HOUSE — LATER THAT AFTERNOON

Cameron walks into the room and immediately notices that Mariah is preparing to leave.

CAMERON
“You’re really going to Philly?”

MARIAH
“Yes.”

CAMERON
“Then you need to hear something before you go.”

Mariah turns toward him.

MARIAH
“What?”

CAMERON
“Isaiah’s actions have been telling you everything you need to know.”

Mariah becomes quiet.

CAMERON
“I’m saying he’s been using both you and Brooke. He tells you one thing, then turns around and does something completely different with Brooke.”

Mariah looks down, hurt and angry.

MARIAH
“So you think he never really cared about me?”

CAMERON
“I think he hasn’t been honest with either of you.”

Mariah takes a deep breath.

MARIAH
“Then he needs to answer for this.”

SCENE 3 — MARIAH FLIES TO PHILLY

EXT. PHILLY AIRPORT — EVENING

Mariah walks through the airport carrying her bag. Her face is serious and determined.

She checks her phone and sees several unanswered messages from Isaiah.

MARIAH
“You had your chance to tell me the truth.”

She puts her phone away and walks toward the exit.

MARIAH
“Now everybody is going to hear it.”

Mariah gets into a car and heads directly toward the police station.

SCENE 4 — MARIAH FILES A COMPLAINT

INT. POLICE STATION — EVENING

Mariah walks inside and approaches the front desk.

MARIAH
“I need to make a complaint.”

OFFICER
“Okay. Tell me what happened.”

Mariah explains the situation and shows the officer messages from Isaiah.

MARIAH
“He told me one thing, then he called Brooke back after sending me away. I believe he’s been dishonest with both of us.”

The officer carefully listens and reviews the information.

OFFICER
“We’ll document what you’re reporting and determine what steps are appropriate.”

Mariah nods.

MARIAH
“I just want the truth.”

SCENE 5 — ISAIAH FACES MARIAH

INT. POLICE STATION — NIGHT

Isaiah arrives at the station, confused and nervous.

ISAIAH
“Why am I here?”

OFFICER
“We need to ask you some questions regarding a complaint that has been made.”

Isaiah looks across the room and suddenly sees Mariah.

ISAIAH
“Mariah?”

MARIAH
“Yes. Me.”

ISAIAH
“What are you doing here?”

MARIAH
“I came back because I found out what you were doing.”

ISAIAH
“You don’t understand the situation.”

MARIAH
“Then explain it.”

Isaiah becomes silent.

MARIAH
“Why did you send me away and then call Brooke back?”

ISAIAH
“It wasn’t like that.”

MARIAH
“Then what was it like?”

Isaiah struggles to answer.

MARIAH
“You told me one thing. You told Brooke something else. How many stories are you going to tell before somebody finally gets the truth?”

SCENE 6 — BROOKE BREAKS DOWN

INT. POLICE STATION — CONTINUOUS

Brooke arrives after hearing that Isaiah is at the station. The moment she sees Isaiah talking with the officers, her eyes fill with tears.

BROOKE
“What happened?”

Mariah looks toward Brooke.

MARIAH
“I came here because Isaiah has been lying to both of us.”

Brooke starts crying.

BROOKE
“I didn’t know this was going to happen.”

BROOKE
“Am I in trouble too?”

OFFICER
“Brooke, take a breath. Nobody is saying that.”

Brooke sits down, overwhelmed by everything happening around her.

BROOKE
“I just wanted everything to be normal.”

Isaiah looks toward her.

ISAIAH
“Brooke…”

BROOKE
“Don’t.”

Isaiah stops speaking.

BROOKE
“I don’t even know what to believe anymore.”

Mariah watches Brooke crying. Her anger slowly mixes with sympathy.

MARIAH
“Brooke, I’m not here to hurt you.”

BROOKE
“Then why does it feel like everything is falling apart?”

MARIAH
“Because Isaiah never told either of us the whole truth.”

SCENE 7 — ISAIAH HAS TO ANSWER

INT. POLICE STATION — LATER THAT NIGHT

The station becomes quiet. Isaiah stands between Mariah and Brooke, realizing that the situation has gone far beyond what he expected.

ISAIAH
“I never wanted this to happen.”

MARIAH
“But you made choices that brought us here.”

ISAIAH
“I care about both of you.”

Brooke looks up through her tears.

BROOKE
“That’s the problem, Isaiah.”

Isaiah looks at her.

BROOKE
“You can’t keep saying you care about people while hurting them.”

Mariah slowly nods.

MARIAH
“She’s right.”

Isaiah lowers his head.

ISAIAH
“So what do you want me to do?”

MARIAH
“Tell the truth.”

A long silence fills the room.

MARIAH
“No more excuses. No more stories. No more choosing one person while secretly keeping another person around.”

Isaiah looks at Brooke.

ISAIAH
“Brooke…”

BROOKE
“I don’t want another promise.”

Brooke wipes away her tears.

BROOKE
“I want the truth.”

SCENE 8 — A PAINFUL ENDING

INT. POLICE STATION — NIGHT

The officer approaches Isaiah and asks him to come along while the situation is handled.

OFFICER
“We need you to come with us while we finish handling this situation.”

Isaiah looks back at Brooke.

ISAIAH
“I’m sorry.”

Brooke begins crying again.

BROOKE
“I just wish you had been honest from the beginning.”

Isaiah is escorted away as Mariah watches silently.

Brooke remains seated, overwhelmed by everything that has happened.

MARIAH
“This didn’t have to happen.”

Brooke looks at her through her tears.

BROOKE
“I know.”

The camera slowly pulls back as the station falls quiet.
