Dave, Wayne & Amber: The Lawyer Secret
When A Simple Conversation Turns Into Something Much Bigger
The tension was already high.
The room was already tense before Dave walked through the door.
Amber was standing near the table, looking nervous, while Wayne was
still trying to act like everything was under control.
He had been expecting to have a serious conversation with Amber,
but the second Dave walked in, the whole mood changed.
Dave: “So you’re Wayne?”
Wayne: “Yeah. And you must be Dave.”
Amber: “Okay, can we please not make this weird?”
Dave: “I’m not trying to make anything weird. I just wanted to talk.”
Wayne: “About what?”
Dave: “About Amber.”
Wayne laughed slightly and crossed his arms.
Wayne: “Why are you talking to me about Amber?”
Dave: “Because every time she makes a decision for herself, you have something to say about it.”
Amber looked down, already knowing where the conversation was going.
Wayne: “That’s not what this is about. Amber has responsibilities. She can’t just do whatever she wants whenever she wants.”
Dave: “And who made you responsible for deciding what she can and can’t do?”
Wayne: “Nobody. But I built this podcast, and everybody involved needs to respect that.”
Dave: “Respecting the podcast is one thing. Trying to control somebody is another.”
Amber: “That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to explain.”
Wayne: “So now you two are teaming up against me?”
Amber: “No. I’m just tired of every conversation turning into me having to defend myself.”
Dave: “She shouldn’t have to defend herself every time she chooses to spend time with me.”
Wayne: “Spend time with you? That’s what this is about?”
Dave: “You tell me. You were the one bringing up my name.”
Wayne: “I’m just saying, Amber needs to figure out what she wants. She’s still got a whole situation going on with Anthony.”
The room suddenly went quiet. Amber looked at Wayne in disbelief.
Amber: “Why do you keep bringing Anthony into this?”
Wayne: “Because it matters.”
Dave: “No, it matters to Amber. Not to you.”
Wayne: “You really want to get involved in this?”
Dave: “I already am.”
Amber: “Guys, stop. This isn’t helping anything.”
Wayne pointed toward Dave.
Wayne: “You came in here acting like you know everything.”
Dave: “I don’t know everything. But I know what I see. And I see Amber constantly being questioned about who she talks to, where she goes, and what she does.”
Wayne: “You don’t understand the whole situation.”
Dave: “Then explain it.”
Wayne paused. Amber immediately noticed the hesitation.
Amber: “What aren’t you telling us?”
Wayne: “There are things happening behind the scenes that y’all don’t know about.”
Dave: “Like what?”
Amber: “Wayne, what are you talking about?”
Wayne: “The lawyer.”
Amber’s face changed instantly.
Dave looked confused.
Dave: “What lawyer?”
Wayne: “Exactly.”
Amber: “Wayne, don’t start.”
Dave: “You know what he’s talking about?”
Amber hesitated.
Wayne noticed it immediately.
Wayne: “See? Now we’re getting somewhere.”
Dave: “Why didn’t you tell me about the lawyer?”
Amber: “Because I didn’t want this turning into another argument.”
Dave: “So you knew about this already?”
Wayne: “I knew enough.”
Dave: “And you’ve been waiting for the right moment to bring it up?”
Wayne: “Maybe.”
Amber: “This is exactly why I didn’t want anybody talking about it.”
Dave: “If there’s a legal situation, then everybody needs to know what’s really happening.”
Wayne: “Careful, Dave. You don’t know what you’re stepping into.”
Dave: “Then tell me.”
Wayne looked at Amber.
Amber looked terrified that the conversation was about to reveal
something bigger than anyone expected.
Wayne: “Ask Amber what happened at that meeting.”
Dave: “Amber?”
Amber stayed silent.
Dave asked again.
Dave: “What happened?”
Amber took a deep breath and looked at Wayne.
Amber finally speaks.
“Maybe Wayne should tell you why he already knew the lawyer was involved.”
Everyone went silent. Wayne’s expression changed. Dave stared at him. And Amber quietly walked away from the table, leaving both men wondering what she was about to reveal next.
