Dave Confronts Wayne Over Amber’s Contract

A tense confrontation at the podcast studio

Scene 1 – Dave Arrives at the Podcast Studio

The afternoon is quiet around Wayne’s podcast studio. Inside, the production team is busy preparing equipment for the next recording. Cameras are being checked, microphones are adjusted, and papers are spread across a large table.

Wayne sits in his office, looking over several documents. His expression is serious as he reviews the contract that Amber has been asked to sign.

Suddenly, the office door opens.

Dave walks inside. He looks concerned and frustrated. He closes the door behind him and immediately turns his attention toward Wayne.

DAVE

Wayne, we need to talk.

Wayne slowly looks up from the papers.

WAYNE

About what?

Dave takes a few steps forward.

DAVE

About Amber. Why are you making her sign this contract?

Wayne puts the papers down.

WAYNE

Because it’s a business agreement. That’s why.

Dave shakes his head.

DAVE

No, Wayne. You know that’s not what I mean. Why are you making things so difficult for her?

Wayne’s expression becomes serious.

DAVE

And why are you giving everyone such a hard time? Amber isn’t the only person who feels like you’re putting unnecessary pressure on them.

Wayne leans back in his chair. For a moment, neither man speaks. The tension inside the room begins to grow.

Scene 2 – Dave Demands an Explanation

Dave remains standing in front of Wayne’s desk. He looks directly at him.

DAVE

You have to understand how this looks from the outside. You’re asking Amber to sign a contract that she clearly has concerns about.

Wayne narrows his eyes.

DAVE

And why are you giving everyone such a hard time?

Wayne slowly stands from his chair.

WAYNE

She doesn’t have to sign anything.

Dave pauses.

DAVE

Then why keep pushing her?

Wayne becomes frustrated.

WAYNE

Because I expect people working with me to understand the rules.

Dave steps closer.

DAVE

Rules are one thing. Pressuring people is another.

Wayne shakes his head.

WAYNE

Dave, you came all the way here just to lecture me about my own business?

DAVE

I came here because somebody needs to tell you that you’re going too far.

The room suddenly becomes silent.

Scene 3 – Wayne Loses His Patience

Wayne walks around the desk and stands directly across from Dave. His voice becomes louder.

WAYNE

You want to know why Amber has to sign the contract?

Dave waits for his answer.

WAYNE

Because this is my podcast.

Wayne points toward the studio outside the office.

WAYNE

I built this. I run this. I make the decisions here.

Dave looks unimpressed.

DAVE

Being the boss doesn’t mean you can treat people however you want.

Wayne immediately responds.

WAYNE

I never said that.

DAVE

Then show it.

Wayne takes a deep breath.

WAYNE

This contract protects the podcast. It makes expectations clear. Everyone who works here needs to understand that.

Dave looks at the papers.

DAVE

Then explain it to Amber instead of intimidating her.

Scene 4 – “I’m the Boss”

Wayne turns away for a moment before looking back at Dave. His frustration is obvious.

WAYNE

Let me make something very clear.

Dave remains silent.

WAYNE

I’m the boss here.

He points toward the studio.

WAYNE

This is my podcast. I decide how things are going to be done.

Wayne’s voice becomes firm.

WAYNE

Whatever I want is what’s going to happen.

Dave slowly shakes his head.

DAVE

That attitude is exactly the problem.

Wayne looks at him angrily.

DAVE

You’re acting like being the boss means nobody is allowed to question you.

WAYNE

Because every time I make a decision, somebody wants to challenge it.

DAVE

Maybe because some of your decisions need to be challenged.

Wayne becomes silent. The two men stare at each other across the office.

Scene 5 – Dave Tries to Reason With Wayne

Dave’s tone becomes calmer.

DAVE

Wayne, I’m not here to take your podcast away from you.

Wayne says nothing.

DAVE

I’m telling you to think about the people working with you.

Dave gestures toward the studio.

DAVE

They’re putting their time and effort into this too. You can be the boss without making everyone feel uncomfortable.

Wayne looks toward the studio through the glass door.

DAVE

If Amber has questions about the contract, answer them. If she disagrees with something, hear her out.

Dave pauses.

DAVE

Being in charge doesn’t mean you have to stop listening.

Scene 6 – Wayne Defends His Position

Wayne picks up the contract again and looks at the pages carefully.

WAYNE

I understand what you’re saying.

Dave waits.

WAYNE

But at the end of the day, somebody has to make the final decision.

DAVE

That’s true.

WAYNE

And that person is me.

Dave nods slowly.

DAVE

Then make the decision responsibly.

Wayne looks down at the contract.

WAYNE

I’m not trying to ruin Amber’s career.

DAVE

Then don’t make her feel like you are.

Wayne sighs. The anger in the room begins to settle.

Scene 7 – Dave’s Final Warning

Dave walks toward the door. Before leaving, he turns around one final time.

DAVE

Wayne, I’m going to say this one more time.

Wayne looks at him.

DAVE

You’re the boss. Fine. But being the boss comes with responsibility.

Dave pauses at the doorway.

DAVE

If you want people to respect your decisions, give them a reason to respect the person making them.

Dave opens the door and walks out.

Wayne watches him carefully.

WAYNE

I’ll think about what you said.

Dave nods.

DAVE

That’s all I wanted.

Scene 8 – The Decision

Outside the office, Dave walks through the studio. Amber notices him and immediately looks concerned.

AMBER

Did you talk to Wayne?

Dave nods.

DAVE

Yeah. We had a serious conversation.

Amber looks toward Wayne’s office.

AMBER

What did he say?

Dave takes a moment before answering.

DAVE

He still believes he has the final say because it’s his podcast.

Amber looks disappointed.

DAVE

But I told him that being the boss doesn’t mean ignoring everyone else’s concerns.

Amber nods quietly.

Inside the office, Wayne watches them through the glass. He picks up the contract, studies it for a moment, and then places it back on the desk.

The conflict may not be over, but Dave’s confrontation has forced Wayne to think about his actions.

The podcast is still Wayne’s. The final decisions may still belong to him. But now, he knows that his choices can affect the people around him.
