Brooke Comes Home Heartbroken After Learning The Truth

BROOKE COMES HOME HEARTBROKEN AFTER LEARNING THE TRUTH

INT. LIVING ROOM — EVENING

The front door slowly opens. Brooke walks inside, her face covered with tears, completely heartbroken and barely able to hold herself together. She closes the door and takes a few steps forward, then stops as her emotions overwhelm her. She begins crying uncontrollably.
Sharra, sitting nearby, immediately notices her and stands up.
SHARRABrooke?
Brooke doesn’t respond. Sharra walks closer, looking concerned.
SHARRAWhat happened?
Brooke wipes her tears but can’t stop crying. She looks down at the floor.
SHARRABrooke, talk to me. What happened at Isaiah’s house?
Brooke remains silent, her breathing shaky as more tears roll down her face. Sharra gently places a hand on her shoulder.
SHARRABaby, please tell me what happened.
Brooke finally looks at Sharra. For a moment it seems she is about to speak — but instead she breaks down even harder. Sharra pulls her into a comforting hug.
SHARRAIt’s okay. Just breathe.
BROOKEI… I don’t even know what to say.
SHARRAWhatever happened, you can tell me.
BROOKEI don’t want to talk about it.
Sharra slowly pulls back and looks into Brooke’s eyes, beginning to put the pieces together.
SHARRABrooke… did you find out something about Isaiah?
Brooke’s eyes fill with more tears. Sharra realizes she may have guessed correctly.
SHARRAOh, no…
BROOKEHe’s with somebody else.
SHARRAWhat?
BROOKEIsaiah has another girl. He’s been spending time with her.
Sharra looks shocked but quickly focuses on comforting Brooke.
SHARRACome here. I know this hurts.
BROOKEI trusted him.
SHARRAI know.
BROOKEI kept believing everything he told me. And now I feel stupid.
SHARRANo. Don’t say that. You are not stupid because you trusted somebody you cared about. What Isaiah chose to do is on him. You don’t have to carry the blame for his decisions.
BROOKEWhy wasn’t I enough?
Sharra gently holds Brooke’s face and makes her look at her.
SHARRADon’t do that to yourself. This isn’t about whether you’re enough. Sometimes people make choices that hurt the people who care about them.
BROOKEI really thought he loved me.
SHARRAI know you did. But sometimes the truth hurts before it sets you free.
BROOKEI just wanted him to be honest with me.
SHARRAAnd you deserved honesty.
BROOKEI went all the way over there thinking maybe we could fix everything.
SHARRAYou can’t force somebody to give you the same loyalty you’re giving them.
BROOKEI don’t know what I’m supposed to do now.
SHARRARight now? You breathe. You calm down. And you remember that this moment doesn’t define your future.
Brooke nods. Neither of them notices that Larry has entered the hallway. He stops when he hears Isaiah’s name and listens quietly, his expression changing as he realizes what happened. Larry steps into the room.
LARRYWhat happened?
Brooke immediately looks away. Sharra turns toward Larry.
SHARRALarry…
LARRYBrooke, what did Isaiah do?
Brooke doesn’t answer. Sharra speaks softly.
SHARRAShe found out Isaiah has been spending time with another girl.
Larry’s face becomes serious. He looks at Brooke, still crying.
LARRYHe did what?
BROOKEHe has a new girlfriend.
Larry takes a deep breath, clearly angry but keeping his voice controlled.
LARRYBrooke, I told you this was going to happen. I told you from the beginning that Isaiah wasn’t the right guy for you. But you kept going back to him. You kept hanging out with him. You kept spending time with him. Every time something happened, you found a reason to give him another chance. And now look at where you are.
BROOKEDad, I really loved him.
Larry’s expression softens slightly. He sits down near her.
LARRYI know you did. And I’m not telling you this because I want to see you hurt. I’m telling you because I tried to warn you. Sometimes we see what we want to see because we care about somebody. But when someone keeps showing you who they are, eventually you have to believe them.
Sharra nods quietly. Larry looks directly at Brooke.
LARRYYou gave Isaiah your time. You gave him your trust. You gave him chance after chance. And today, he made his choice.
BROOKEWhy would he do this to me?
LARRYI don’t know. But I do know this: his decision doesn’t determine your worth. You can’t spend the rest of your life chasing somebody who doesn’t know how to appreciate you.
SHARRAYour dad is right about one thing. You have to start choosing yourself.
LARRYExactly.
A long silence fills the room. Brooke looks between Larry and Sharra. She is still hurt, but their words are beginning to sink in.
BROOKEI just don’t know how I’m supposed to stop caring about him.
SHARRAYou don’t have to stop caring overnight. You just have to stop letting the situation destroy you.
Larry stands up.
LARRYTonight, you don’t need to figure everything out. Just let yourself feel what you’re feeling. Tomorrow, we’ll figure out what comes next.
Brooke slowly nods. Sharra hugs her again. Larry watches quietly. For the first time since Brooke walked through the door, she feels like she isn’t facing the heartbreak alone. The room becomes quiet. Brooke takes a deep breath and wipes her tears. The pain is still there — but now, she has her family beside her.
