Bethany’s Breaking Point

SCENE 1 — THE LIVING ROOM — EVENING

The atmosphere is tense. Bethany stands nearby, already frustrated by the argument. Larry remains firm, showing little sympathy.

LARRY

“I don’t care about you. I only care about my son.”

Bethany freezes.

His words hit her harder than she expected. Her expression changes from hurt to anger.

She takes a deep breath, trying to control herself.

BETHANY

“What did you just say?”

Larry doesn’t back down.

LARRY

“You heard me. My son is what matters to me.”

Bethany shakes her head in disbelief.

Her eyes fill with anger as she remembers everything that has happened.

BETHANY

“So that’s all you care about? Your son?”

Larry stays silent.

Bethany turns away, reaching for her phone.

Her hands tremble slightly as she scrolls through her contacts.

She knows exactly who she needs to call.

SCENE 2 — PHONE CALL — CONTINUOUS

Bethany presses the call button.

The phone rings.

Once.

Twice.

Finally, Sam answers.

SAM

“Hello? Bethany?”

Bethany immediately starts speaking, her voice sharp and angry.

BETHANY

“Sam, where is Isaiah?”

Sam can hear the anger in her voice.

He sits up, suddenly concerned.

SAM

“Why? What happened?”

BETHANY

“Just tell me where he is.”

Sam pauses.

He has no idea why Bethany is suddenly asking about Isaiah.

SAM

“He’s at home.”

BETHANY

“He’s at home right now?”

SAM

“Yes. He’s here. Why are you asking?”

Bethany grabs her keys.

Her anger is now completely focused.

BETHANY

“I need to talk to him.”

Sam becomes nervous.

SAM

“Bethany, wait. What’s going on?”

But Bethany has already made up her mind.

BETHANY

“I’ll explain when I get there.”

She ends the call.

Bethany takes one last look toward Larry.

Larry watches her silently.

LARRY

“Where are you going?”

Bethany doesn’t answer.

She walks toward the door.

Her footsteps are quick and determined.

SCENE 3 — OUTSIDE ISAIAH’S HOUSE — LATER

Bethany arrives at Isaiah’s house.

She gets out of the car and walks quickly toward the front door.

Her face is tense.

She knocks hard.

Sam opens the door.

He immediately notices how angry she is.

SAM

“Bethany, what happened?”

BETHANY

“Where’s Isaiah?”

Sam points toward the other room.

SAM

“He’s inside.”

Bethany walks forward without hesitation.

Sam follows behind her, still confused.

SAM

“Bethany, please tell me what’s going on.”

Bethany stops for a moment.

She turns toward Sam.

BETHANY

“I just need to talk to Isaiah.”

Sam nods slowly.

He can tell this conversation is not going to be calm.

SCENE 4 — ISAIAH’S ROOM — CONTINUOUS

Isaiah is inside when Bethany enters.

He looks surprised to see her.

ISAIAH

“Bethany? What are you doing here?”

Bethany looks directly at him.

There is no smile on her face.

BETHANY

“We need to talk.”

ISAIAH

“About what?”

Bethany takes a step closer.

BETHANY

“About my son.”

ISAIAH

“What about your son?”

BETHANY

“I’m asking you to stay away from anything that could hurt him.”

Isaiah looks at Sam, hoping for some explanation.

Sam remains quiet.

ISAIAH

“I would never hurt your son.”

BETHANY

“Then make sure you don’t.”

Her anger is obvious, but beneath it is a mother’s fear.

She has heard too many things.

She has seen too much tension.

And now she refuses to ignore it.

ISAIAH

“Bethany, you’re misunderstanding the situation.”

BETHANY

“Then explain it to me.”

Isaiah pauses.

Bethany waits.

BETHANY

“I’m listening.”

Isaiah struggles to find the right words.

ISAIAH

“I never wanted any problems with you or your family.”

BETHANY

“Then don’t create any.”

A heavy silence fills the room.

SAM

“Everyone needs to calm down.”

BETHANY

“Sam, I’m not here to start a fight.”

She turns back toward Isaiah.

BETHANY

“I’m here because I’m worried about my son.”

Her voice becomes emotional.

BETHANY

“A mother is going to protect her child. That’s what I’m doing.”

ISAIAH

“I understand.”

Bethany takes a deep breath.

Her anger is still there.

But now her words are controlled.

BETHANY

“Good. Then remember what I’m telling you.”

Isaiah looks at her.

BETHANY

“If anything happens to my son, I will take care of you.”

The room goes completely silent.

Sam looks between them.

Isaiah realizes how serious Bethany is.

ISAIAH

“Nothing is going to happen to him.”

Bethany holds his gaze for several seconds.

BETHANY

“I hope you’re right.”

She turns toward the door.

SCENE 5 — HALLWAY — MOMENTS LATER

Bethany walks out of the room.

Sam follows her.

SAM

“Bethany, you should have called me first.”

She stops.

BETHANY

“I did call you.”

Sam sighs.

SAM

“You know what I mean.”

Bethany looks down for a moment.

Her anger begins to fade, revealing the fear underneath.

BETHANY

“I’m just trying to protect my son.”

SAM

“I understand that.”

BETHANY

“Then make sure everyone understands it.”

She opens the door.

Before leaving, she turns around one last time.

BETHANY

“I don’t want trouble. I just want my son safe.”

SAM

“He will be.”

Bethany leaves.

The door closes behind her.

SCENE 6 — OUTSIDE THE HOUSE — NIGHT

Bethany walks toward her car.

She stops for a moment and looks back at the house.

Her anger is slowly replaced by concern.

She takes a deep breath.

She knows the argument with Larry started everything.

But for her, the real issue is much bigger.

Her son.

Her family.

And the fear that something could go wrong.

Bethany gets into her car.

She looks straight ahead.

BETHANY

“I’ll always protect my child.”

She starts the engine.

The car pulls away into the night.

Inside the house, Sam stands quietly near the window.

Isaiah remains in the hallway, thinking about Bethany’s warning.

No one speaks.

THE TENSION REMAINS.

FADE OUT.
