THE CONFRONTATION AT ANTHONY’S HOUSE
SCENE 1 — OUTSIDE ANTHONY’S HOUSE — DAY
The afternoon is bright, but the atmosphere feels tense.
A car pulls up outside Anthony’s house.
Shayla steps out, visibly angry. Angelina follows close behind her.
Shayla takes a deep breath.
Her hands are trembling with anger.
Angelina looks at her with concern.
ANGELINA
Shayla, calm down. We can talk to him without making things worse.
Shayla shakes her head.
She looks toward Anthony’s house.
SHAYLA
I can’t stay calm after what he did to my mom.
Angelina steps closer.
ANGELINA
I know you’re angry, but think carefully before you do anything.
Shayla starts walking toward the front door.
Angelina follows.
SHAYLA
He threw my mom out of this house.
He had no right to do that.
Shayla reaches the front door and knocks hard.
Once.
Twice.
Then again.
The door suddenly opens.
Anthony stands there.
He looks surprised to see Shayla and Angelina.
His expression quickly changes to irritation.
ANTHONY
Shayla? What are you doing here?
Shayla steps forward.
Her eyes are filled with anger.
SHAYLA
I’m here because of my mom.
Anthony crosses his arms.
ANTHONY
This isn’t the time for this.
SHAYLA
No.
She points toward Anthony.
SHAYLA
You don’t get to decide when I talk about this.
Angelina remains behind Shayla, watching carefully.
Shayla moves closer to Anthony.
SHAYLA
Why did you throw my mom out of the house?
Anthony’s jaw tightens.
ANTHONY
That’s between me and your mother.
SHAYLA
No, it isn’t!
Her voice rises.
SHAYLA
She’s my mom, and you treated her like she meant nothing!
Anthony looks away for a moment.
ANTHONY
You don’t know the whole story.
SHAYLA
I know enough.
She takes another step toward him.
SHAYLA
You threw my mom out, and I will never forgive you for that.
Anthony becomes increasingly angry.
ANTHONY
Watch your attitude, Shayla.
SHAYLA
Or what?
A tense silence fills the doorway.
Angelina watches both of them.
SHAYLA
You hurt my mom.
You humiliated her.
And now you’re standing here acting like you did nothing wrong.
Anthony loses his patience.
ANTHONY
That’s enough!
Shayla doesn’t move.
SHAYLA
I’m not finished.
Anthony steps forward.
ANTHONY
You need to leave.
SHAYLA
I’m not leaving until you answer me.
Anthony’s anger reaches its limit.
He pushes Shayla backward.
Shayla stumbles several steps.
Angelina immediately reacts.
Her expression changes from concern to anger.
ANGELINA
Hey!
Angelina rushes toward Anthony.
ANGELINA
Don’t you ever put your hands on her!
Anthony looks at Angelina.
ANTHONY
Stay out of this.
Angelina steps between Anthony and Shayla.
ANGELINA
You pushed her!
Shayla steadies herself.
She looks shocked for a moment.
Then she looks at Anthony again.
SHAYLA
You really did that?
Anthony says nothing.
Angelina’s anger grows.
ANGELINA
You think you can just push people around?
Anthony steps closer.
ANTHONY
Both of you need to leave my property.
Angelina refuses to move.
ANGELINA
Not after what you just did.
Anthony tries to move past her.
Angelina blocks his way.
ANGELINA
You owe Shayla an apology.
Anthony shakes his head.
ANTHONY
I’m not apologizing.
Angelina suddenly grabs his arm and starts hitting him.
Anthony backs away in surprise.
ANTHONY
Angelina! Stop!
Angelina continues striking him in anger.
ANGELINA
You should have thought about that before you pushed her!
Shayla stands nearby, shocked by what is happening.
SHAYLA
Angelina, stop!
Angelina looks at Shayla.
ANGELINA
He pushed you!
SHAYLA
I know, but this isn’t going to solve anything.
Anthony takes another step backward.
His face is filled with anger.
ANTHONY
You two have completely lost control!
Angelina points at him.
ANGELINA
No.
She takes a breath.
ANGELINA
You lost control when you put your hands on Shayla.
Shayla slowly walks toward Anthony.
Her anger has turned into disappointment.
SHAYLA
I came here for answers.
She looks directly into his eyes.
SHAYLA
I wanted to know why you threw my mom out.
ANTHONY
I already told you. You don’t know everything.
SHAYLA
Then tell me.
Anthony remains silent.
Shayla waits.
SHAYLA
Tell me what she did.
Anthony looks toward the house.
He seems unwilling to speak.
SHAYLA
That’s what I thought.
Angelina steps beside Shayla.
ANGELINA
He doesn’t have an answer.
Anthony turns toward them.
ANTHONY
You both need to understand something.
SHAYLA
What?
ANTHONY
This is my house.
I decide who stays here.
Shayla’s eyes fill with frustration.
SHAYLA
Maybe it’s your house.
She pauses.
SHAYLA
But my mom is still a human being.
Anthony looks at her.
SHAYLA
She deserved better than being thrown out like she was nothing.
Angelina nods.
ANGELINA
Shayla is right.
Anthony looks between them.
ANTHONY
You came here looking for a fight.
SHAYLA
No.
Shayla shakes her head.
SHAYLA
I came here looking for the truth.
A long silence follows.
The tension remains heavy.
Angelina gently touches Shayla’s shoulder.
ANGELINA
Come on.
Shayla doesn’t move.
She keeps staring at Anthony.
SHAYLA
I’m leaving now.
She takes a step backward.
SHAYLA
But this isn’t over.
Anthony watches her.
ANTHONY
Shayla—
She interrupts him.
SHAYLA
You hurt my family.
Her voice becomes quieter.
SHAYLA
And someday, you’re going to have to answer for it.
Shayla turns away.
Angelina follows her.
They walk toward the car.
Anthony remains standing at the doorway.
He watches them leave.
His anger slowly fades into uncertainty.
Shayla reaches the car and stops.
She looks back at the house one final time.
Angelina stands beside her.
ANGELINA
Are you okay?
Shayla takes a deep breath.
SHAYLA
No.
She looks down.
SHAYLA
But I will be.
Angelina puts an arm around her.
Together, they walk away from the house.
Behind them, Anthony remains alone at the doorway.
The door slowly closes.
