Shayla and Anthony Face a Heated Showdown
The atmosphere inside the house changed the moment Shayla walked back into the room. She was no longer trying to stay calm. Her expression was serious, and Anthony immediately noticed that she had more questions.
Shayla looked directly at him.
“Anthony, I’m going to ask you one more time. Why did you disrespect my mother?” 😤
Anthony sighed and shook his head.
“Shayla, I already told you what happened. Your mother came into my house, started talking reckless, and brought up D’Nisha. I wasn’t just going to sit there and let somebody disrespect me in my own home.”
Shayla stepped closer.
“That still doesn’t answer my question! You could have walked away. You could have ended the conversation. But instead, you decided to say things to my mother that you knew would hurt her.”
Anthony raised his hands.
“Wait a minute. I didn’t go looking for an argument with your mother.”
“But you kept it going!” Shayla fired back. “And then you started talking about my business!”
Anthony paused.
“What business?”
Shayla stared at him in disbelief.
“Don’t do that, Anthony. You know exactly what I’m talking about. Things I hadn’t even told my mother yet somehow came out of your mouth.”
Anthony shook his head.
“I thought she already knew.”
“Common knowledge? That’s what you said, right? You thought my private business was common knowledge?”
Anthony became visibly frustrated.
“I wasn’t trying to expose you, Shayla.”
“But you did!” she shouted. “And now you want to act like it wasn’t a big deal?”
The room went silent for a moment.
Anthony lowered his voice.
“Look, Shayla, I’m not against you. I’m telling you what happened from my side. Your mother came at me first.”
“And because she came at you first, you thought it was okay to disrespect her back? That’s my mother, Anthony!”
Anthony stepped forward.
“And what about me? Do my feelings not matter? Everybody keeps acting like I’m supposed to take everything and say nothing.”
Shayla shook her head.
“This isn’t about you being quiet. This is about respect. You knew how important my mother is to me, and you still crossed a line.”
Anthony looked away for a second before answering.
“I was angry.”
“And that’s exactly the problem. When you get angry, you say whatever you want and then expect everybody else to understand.”
Anthony looked back at her.
“So what do you want me to do? Apologize for defending myself?”
“I want you to take responsibility. There’s a difference.”
Anthony remained silent.
“And stop bringing D’Nisha into every conversation. I’m talking about my mother. I’m talking about what you did. Stay on the subject.”
Anthony finally nodded slightly.
“Fine. Maybe I could have handled it differently.”
Shayla folded her arms.
“That’s all I wanted you to admit.”
But Anthony wasn’t finished.
“However, Shayla, your mother needs to understand that I deserve respect too.”
Shayla stared at him for several seconds.
“Then prove you deserve it, Anthony.”
Anthony’s eyebrows lifted.
“What does that supposed to mean?”
“It means respect isn’t something you demand. It’s something you show.”
Anthony shook his head.
“You really think I don’t respect you?”
Shayla’s expression softened for a moment.
“This isn’t about whether you respect me. It’s about whether you respect the people who matter to me.”
Anthony stepped closer, lowering his voice.
“And you think I don’t care about the people who matter to you?”
“I think you let your anger control you.”
Anthony looked frustrated.
“And I think you always take your mother’s side.”
“Because she’s my mother! What do you expect me to do? Sit there and watch you two go back and forth?”
“I expect you to hear my side too.”
“I am hearing your side!”
“No, you’re waiting to respond.”
That sentence made Shayla pause.
She looked at him for a moment, then slowly shook her head.
“Maybe you’re right about one thing. I am angry.”
Anthony nodded.
“I can see that.”
“But I’m angry because I feel like you crossed a boundary.”
Anthony’s expression changed.
“What boundary?”
“You shared things that weren’t yours to share.”
Anthony didn’t answer immediately.
“Those were my personal matters. I should be the one deciding when and how my mother hears about them.”
“I honestly thought she already knew.”
“And now you know she didn’t.”
“Yeah.”
“Then don’t do it again.”
“I won’t.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
For the first time during the confrontation, the tension seemed to drop slightly. But then Anthony added something that immediately caught Shayla’s attention.
“Still, I need you to talk to your mother too.”
“About what?”
“About how she talks to me.”
Shayla sighed.
“Anthony…”
“No, Shayla. I’m serious. I can admit where I was wrong, but I’m not going to accept being disrespected either.”
“Then I’ll talk to her. But you have to talk to her too.”
“Fair.”
“And no more personal information.”
“Agreed.”
“And no more bringing D’Nisha into arguments that have nothing to do with her.”
“You really don’t want to hear that name, do you?”
“Anthony!”
He laughed quietly.
“Okay, okay. I’m done.” 😅
Shayla tried not to smile, but her expression remained serious.
“This isn’t funny.”
“I know.”
“You really hurt me today.”
Anthony’s smile disappeared.
“I didn’t mean to.”
“But you did.”
Anthony took a step closer.
“Then I’m sorry, Shayla.”
She looked at him, waiting.
“I’m sorry I said things I shouldn’t have said. I’m sorry I made the situation worse. And I’m sorry I made you feel like I wasn’t respecting your family.”
“That’s the apology I needed.”
Anthony nodded.
“But I still need you to understand something.”
“What?”
“I don’t want to fight with you.”
Shayla looked down for a moment.
“Then stop giving me reasons to fight with you.”
“Fair enough.”
Shayla finally stepped back.
“Good. Because the next time something happens with my mother, we’re going to talk about it like adults.”
“Deal.”
Shayla turned to walk away, but before she reached the doorway, she stopped.
“And Anthony?”
“Yeah?”
“If you ever tell my mother my business again…”
“What?”
“We’re going to have a much bigger problem.”
Anthony stood there silently as Shayla walked away.
For a moment, it seemed like the confrontation was finally over. But neither of them realized that the situation was about to become even more complicated.
Suddenly, Anthony’s phone started ringing.
He looked down at the screen.
His expression immediately changed.
“Who is that?”
Anthony didn’t answer.
“Anthony… who is calling you?”
He slowly looked up at her.
“It’s your mother.”
Shayla froze.
“My mother?”
Anthony nodded.
“And why is she calling you after everything that just happened?”
Anthony glanced at the phone again. The call kept ringing.
Shayla walked back toward him.
“Answer it.”
Anthony hesitated.
“Shayla, maybe this isn’t the right time.”
“No. Answer the phone. I want to know what she has to say.”
Anthony finally answered.
“Hello?”
There was silence for a moment.
Then his expression became tense.
“What? You’re serious?”
Shayla watched his face carefully.
“What did she say?” she whispered.
Anthony didn’t respond. Instead, he slowly pulled the phone away from his ear and looked at Shayla.
“Your mother wants to come back over.”
“Tonight?”
Anthony nodded.
“She says she has something to tell both of us.”
“Something to tell us?”
Anthony put the phone back to his ear.
“Yeah… we’re both here.”
He listened.
Then his eyes suddenly widened.
Shayla immediately knew something was wrong.
“Anthony, what did she say?”
Anthony slowly lowered the phone.
“She says she knows exactly what you never told her.”
Shayla’s face dropped.
“What?”
Anthony looked at her.
“And she says D’Nisha isn’t the real reason she’s angry.”
The room went completely silent.
Shayla took a step backward.
“Then what’s the real reason?”
Anthony looked toward the front door.
Before he could answer, there was a loud knock.
Shayla and Anthony both turned toward the door.
“She’s here.”
Shayla took a deep breath.
“Then let’s find out what she’s been hiding.”
Anthony reached for the door handle.
But just before he opened it, Shayla grabbed his arm.
“Anthony…”
He looked at her.
“If this is what I think it is, everything is about to change.”
Anthony slowly nodded.
Then the door opened.
