BROOKE’S NEW BEGINNING

SCENE 1 — WHATABURGER — AFTERNOON

The restaurant is busy.

Customers move through the dining area while employees rush behind the counter. The smell of fresh burgers fills the air.

Brooke walks through the front doors, holding her phone in one hand and a small folder in the other.

She looks nervous but determined.

Today, she is looking for a job.

Brooke takes a deep breath and approaches the counter.

BROOKE
Excuse me. Is the manager available?

The employee points toward the office.

Brooke nods politely and walks over.

She stops outside the manager’s office and knocks gently.

MANAGER
Come in.

Brooke opens the door.

The manager looks up from a stack of papers.

MANAGER
Hi. How can I help you?

Brooke smiles nervously.

BROOKE
Hi. My name is Brooke. I’m looking for a job. I wanted to ask if you’re hiring.

The manager studies her for a moment, then smiles.

MANAGER
Actually, we are. Why don’t you sit down?

Brooke sits across from the manager.

Her nervous expression slowly turns into confidence.

SCENE 2 — MANAGER’S OFFICE — CONTINUOUS

The manager takes out an application form.

MANAGER
So, Brooke, tell me a little about yourself.

Brooke straightens in her chair.

BROOKE
I’m hardworking, responsible, and I learn quickly. I’m looking for a job where I can work hard and become part of a team.

The manager nods.

MANAGER
That’s good. What kind of hours are you available?

BROOKE
I can be flexible. I’m willing to work different shifts if needed.

The manager smiles.

MANAGER
Have you worked in a restaurant before?

Brooke shakes her head.

BROOKE
Not exactly. But I’m willing to learn everything.

The manager leans back in the chair.

MANAGER
That’s important. Experience can be taught. A good attitude is harder to teach.

Brooke smiles.

BROOKE
I’ll work hard. I promise.

The manager looks over Brooke’s application.

A few seconds pass.

Then the manager places the papers on the desk.

MANAGER
I think I’d like to give you a chance.

Brooke’s eyes widen.

BROOKE
Really?

MANAGER
Yes. If you’re ready to work hard, the job is yours.

Brooke lets out a relieved breath.

Her nervousness disappears, replaced by excitement.

BROOKE
Thank you so much. You won’t regret it.

SCENE 3 — WHATABURGER — LATER

Brooke follows the manager out of the office.

The restaurant is still busy.

The manager points toward different areas of the restaurant.

MANAGER
Okay, Brooke. Before you start, I want to explain how everything works.

Brooke listens carefully.

MANAGER
This is the front counter. You’ll greet customers, take their orders, answer questions, and make sure their orders are correct.

Brooke nods.

BROOKE
Okay. Got it.

The manager points toward the kitchen.

MANAGER
The kitchen is where the food is prepared. You’ll need to communicate with the kitchen staff so orders move quickly and correctly.

Brooke looks toward the kitchen.

Several employees are working together.

BROOKE
It looks really busy.

The manager laughs softly.

MANAGER
It can be. But once you learn the routine, it becomes much easier.

SCENE 4 — TRAINING AREA — AFTERNOON

The manager continues showing Brooke around.

They walk toward the register.

MANAGER
This is the register. You’ll use this system to enter customer orders.

The manager demonstrates how the screen works.

Brooke watches closely.

MANAGER
First, listen carefully to the customer. Enter every item correctly. Then repeat the order back to them before taking payment.

BROOKE
So I should always double-check the order?

MANAGER
Exactly.

Brooke nods.

She takes out her phone and makes a quick note.

The manager notices.

MANAGER
Taking notes already?

BROOKE
I don’t want to forget anything.

The manager smiles approvingly.

MANAGER
That’s a good sign.

SCENE 5 — WHATABURGER — LATE AFTERNOON

The manager shows Brooke another part of the restaurant.

MANAGER
Keeping the restaurant clean is also part of your job.

Brooke looks around.

MANAGER
Tables need to be cleaned, the counter needs to stay organized, and spills have to be handled immediately.

BROOKE
Understood.

MANAGER
And there’s one more important thing.

Brooke looks at the manager.

BROOKE
What?

MANAGER
Customer service.

The manager speaks seriously.

MANAGER
Some customers will be friendly. Some will be impatient. No matter what happens, stay respectful and calm.

Brooke nods.

BROOKE
I can do that.

MANAGER
Good. We want customers to leave feeling like they were treated well.

Brooke looks around the restaurant.

She realizes there is much more to the job than she expected.

SCENE 6 — WHATABURGER — EVENING

The manager hands Brooke a uniform.

Brooke looks down at it with a surprised smile.

BROOKE
Is this mine?

MANAGER
Yes. You’re officially part of the team.

Brooke smiles warmly.

For the first time that day, she feels completely confident.

BROOKE
Thank you. I really needed this opportunity.

The manager nods.

MANAGER
Then make the most of it.

Brooke holds the uniform tightly.

BROOKE
I will.

SCENE 7 — EMPLOYEE AREA — EVENING

The manager gives Brooke her final instructions.

MANAGER
Your first few shifts will be about learning. Don’t worry if you make small mistakes.

Brooke listens carefully.

MANAGER
Ask questions whenever you’re unsure. Learn from the other employees. Be on time. And always give your best effort.

BROOKE
I understand.

MANAGER
And remember, teamwork is everything here.

Brooke smiles.

BROOKE
I’ll remember that.

The manager hands Brooke her schedule.

Brooke looks at it carefully.

Her expression becomes emotional.

This is more than just a job.

It feels like a fresh start.

SCENE 8 — WHATABURGER — NIGHT

The restaurant begins to quiet down.

Brooke stands near the entrance, looking around at her new workplace.

The manager walks over.

MANAGER
How are you feeling?

Brooke smiles.

BROOKE
Honestly? A little nervous.

She pauses.

BROOKE
But mostly excited.

The manager nods.

MANAGER
That’s normal. Tomorrow is your first real shift.

Brooke takes a deep breath.

BROOKE
I’m ready.

The manager smiles and walks away.

Brooke looks at her uniform and schedule one more time.

A determined smile appears on her face.

She knows this job will not always be easy.

There will be busy shifts, difficult customers, and plenty of things to learn.

But Brooke is ready to prove herself.

She walks toward the exit.

Before leaving, she looks back at the restaurant.

BROOKE
Tomorrow, I start a new chapter.

She smiles.

Then she walks out into the evening.

FADE OUT.
