BROOKE’S CHOICE

SCENE 1 — BETHANY’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — AFTERNOON

The afternoon is quiet.

Soft daylight fills the living room. BROOKE sits on the couch, looking at her phone.

She seems relaxed, but the peaceful atmosphere doesn’t last long.

The front door opens.

LYNETTE walks inside.

She immediately notices Brooke.

Lynette’s expression is serious.

She walks toward Brooke and stops in front of her.

Brooke looks up.

BROOKE

Lynette? What are you doing here?

Lynette crosses her arms.

She looks angry.

LYNETTE

I’m here to take you with me.

Brooke looks confused.

BROOKE

Take me where?

Lynette points toward the door.

LYNETTE

You’re coming with me. You shouldn’t be staying here with Bethany.

Brooke slowly stands.

Her expression becomes defensive.

BROOKE

Why can’t I stay here?

Lynette takes a breath, trying to control her temper.

LYNETTE

Because I don’t want you staying with Bethany anymore.

Brooke shakes her head.

BROOKE

I don’t understand why you’re making this decision for me.

Lynette’s voice becomes firmer.

LYNETTE

Because I’m trying to protect you.

Brooke looks away.

BROOKE

I can take care of myself.

SCENE 2 — THE ARGUMENT

Lynette steps closer.

Her patience is beginning to disappear.

LYNETTE

Brooke, you’re coming with me. We are not going to argue about this.

Brooke looks directly at her.

BROOKE

I’m not going with you.

Lynette freezes.

LYNETTE

What?

Brooke remains firm.

BROOKE

I said I’m not going with you.

A tense silence fills the room.

Lynette stares at Brooke.

LYNETTE

You want to stay here with Bethany?

BROOKE

Yes.

Lynette shakes her head.

LYNETTE

No. That’s not happening.

Brooke’s voice becomes stronger.

BROOKE

You can’t tell me where I have to live.

Lynette becomes visibly angry.

She turns away for a moment and takes a deep breath.

LYNETTE

Brooke, I’m giving you one last chance.

Brooke doesn’t move.

BROOKE

And I’m telling you no.

Lynette looks back at her.

Her frustration is obvious.

SCENE 3 — LYNETTE LOSES HER PATIENCE

Lynette walks toward the door.

Then she turns back toward Brooke.

LYNETTE

Fine. If you won’t come willingly, I’m taking you home myself.

Brooke looks shocked.

BROOKE

Lynette, don’t do this.

Lynette reaches for Brooke’s arm.

Brooke pulls her arm back.

BROOKE

Let go of me!

Lynette remains angry.

LYNETTE

You’re coming with me.

Brooke tries to step away.

BROOKE

I said no!

The argument becomes louder.

Bethany is not in the room, and the house suddenly feels much smaller.

Lynette tries to guide Brooke toward the front door.

Brooke resists.

BROOKE

Why are you doing this?

Lynette pauses.

For a moment, her anger gives way to concern.

LYNETTE

Because I don’t want you making a decision that you’ll regret.

Brooke looks at her with frustration.

BROOKE

But this is my decision!

Lynette shakes her head.

LYNETTE

Not today.

SCENE 4 — BROOKE IS TAKEN HOME

Lynette takes Brooke toward the front door.

Brooke continues protesting.

BROOKE

I don’t want to go!

Lynette opens the door.

LYNETTE

We’re going home.

Brooke looks back toward the living room.

Her eyes fill with frustration.

BROOKE

Bethany is going to be worried about me.

Lynette doesn’t answer.

She continues walking with Brooke toward the car.

Brooke stops for a moment.

BROOKE

Lynette, please. Just let me stay.

Lynette looks at her.

LYNETTE

I’m sorry, Brooke.

Her voice is firm.

LYNETTE

But you’re coming home with me.

Brooke realizes that Lynette isn’t going to change her mind.

She reluctantly walks forward.

SCENE 5 — THE DRIVE

Inside the car, silence fills the space between them.

Brooke sits in the passenger seat, looking out the window.

Lynette starts the car.

Neither speaks for several moments.

Finally, Brooke breaks the silence.

BROOKE

You shouldn’t have forced me to leave.

Lynette keeps her eyes on the road.

LYNETTE

Maybe you’re angry with me now.

Brooke looks toward her.

BROOKE

I am.

Lynette nods.

LYNETTE

I understand.

Brooke looks back out the window.

BROOKE

I wanted to stay with Bethany.

Lynette sighs.

LYNETTE

I know.

Brooke turns toward her.

BROOKE

Then why didn’t you let me?

Lynette pauses before answering.

LYNETTE

Because I believe you’re safer with me.

Brooke doesn’t respond.

The car continues down the road.

SCENE 6 — LYNETTE’S HOUSE

The car finally arrives at Lynette’s house.

Lynette gets out and walks around to Brooke’s side.

Brooke slowly steps out.

She looks at the house.

Her expression is unhappy.

BROOKE

I still don’t want to be here.

Lynette looks at her.

LYNETTE

I know.

Brooke walks toward the front door.

Lynette follows.

Inside, Brooke stops in the hallway.

BROOKE

Are you going to keep me here forever?

Lynette shakes her head.

LYNETTE

No.

She takes a breath.

LYNETTE

I just need you to calm down.

Brooke crosses her arms.

BROOKE

You took me here against my wishes.

Lynette looks down.

For the first time, she seems to realize how deeply Brooke is hurt.

LYNETTE

I know you’re upset.

Brooke looks away.

SCENE 7 — BROOKE FIGHTS BACK

Brooke walks into the living room.

She sits down and takes out her phone.

Lynette watches her.

LYNETTE

Who are you calling?

Brooke doesn’t look up.

BROOKE

Bethany.

Lynette immediately becomes tense.

LYNETTE

Brooke—

Brooke looks at her.

BROOKE

You can’t stop me from talking to her.

Lynette says nothing.

Brooke unlocks her phone.

Her hands are slightly shaking.

She looks determined.

BROOKE

I’m going to tell her what happened.

Lynette takes a step forward.

Then she stops.

She realizes that forcing Brooke to stay won’t solve the real problem.

LYNETTE

Maybe we both need to calm down.

Brooke looks at her.

BROOKE

You should have thought about that before taking me away.

Lynette lowers her eyes.

The room becomes quiet.

SCENE 8 — AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE

Brooke sits alone on the couch.

She stares at her phone.

Her emotions are complicated—anger, sadness, and disappointment.

Lynette stands near the doorway.

She watches Brooke silently.

For a moment, neither woman speaks.

Finally, Lynette breaks the silence.

LYNETTE

Brooke, I know you’re angry.

Brooke doesn’t respond.

LYNETTE

But I did what I thought was right.

Brooke slowly looks up.

BROOKE

Maybe you thought it was right.

She pauses.

BROOKE

But you didn’t ask me what I wanted.

Lynette has no immediate answer.

Brooke looks back at her phone.

The tension remains.

Lynette walks away quietly.

Brooke remains seated, thinking about Bethany and wondering what will happen next.

The camera slowly pulls back.

Brooke is now in Lynette’s house, but her heart is still back at Bethany’s.

The conflict between Brooke and Lynette is far from over.
