Sometimes, the punishment we fear the most isn’t something another person gives us.
Sometimes… it’s the moment we finally realize that the pain we’re suffering today may be the same pain we once caused someone else.
And for Larry, that realization was about to come at the worst possible moment.
SCENE 1 — OUTSIDE LARRY’S HOUSE
The front door slowly closes behind Larry.
He steps outside and stands silently near the driveway.
His eyes look tired. His mind is somewhere else.
“Brooke… what happened to my little girl?”
He lowers his head.
“Why is she doing all this?”
“Why is she destroying everything… just because of one boy?”
Larry walks slowly down the driveway. Every step feels heavier than the last.
SCENE 2 — LARRY’S REGRET
Larry stops near the sidewalk and closes his eyes.
Memories begin flooding his mind. Arguments. Tears. Broken promises. People he once hurt.
“Maybe… maybe I was the same.”
His voice becomes quieter.
“Maybe I made the same mistakes.”
“I thought I knew everything.”
“I thought people should just accept whatever I decided.”
Larry wipes his face and looks toward the sky.
“Maybe this is why I’m being punished today.”
“Maybe I’m finally getting the consequences of everything I did.”
SCENE 3 — THE ROAD
Larry continues walking, completely lost in his thoughts.
He suddenly steps onto the road without noticing the approaching car.
A vehicle comes toward him at high speed.
CAR HORN — BEEP! BEEP!
Larry turns around. His eyes widen.
“Oh—!”
The car slams into him.
Larry is thrown onto the road. Everything suddenly goes silent.
SCENE 4 — INSIDE THE HOUSE
Bethany is inside with Brooke when they hear the terrible sound of the crash.
Bethany freezes. Brooke looks toward the window.
“What was that?”
Bethany’s face changes instantly.
“Larry!”
Bethany rushes outside. Brooke follows her.
SCENE 5 — THE ROAD
Bethany comes running toward Larry. Her breathing is heavy and her eyes fill with tears.
“LARRY!”
She drops to her knees beside him.
“Larry, please wake up!”
Brooke stands behind Bethany, completely frozen.
“Dad…”
“Brooke, call for help!”
“I’m calling!”
Bethany grabs Larry’s hand while tears roll down her cheeks.
“Please don’t do this… Larry, please open your eyes.”
The distant sound of sirens begins approaching.
SCENE 6 — BROOKE’S REALIZATION
Brooke slowly walks closer and looks at her father lying helplessly on the road.
“I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“None of us did.”
Brooke kneels beside Larry and takes his hand.
“Dad… I’m sorry.”
“I just wanted you to understand me.”
“He heard you, Brooke.”
“How do you know?”
“Because sometimes people understand things only when they’re finally forced to face themselves.”
SCENE 7 — THE AMBULANCE
The ambulance arrives. Paramedics rush toward Larry and place him onto a stretcher.
Brooke notices the serious expressions on their faces.
“What happened?”
The paramedic doesn’t answer immediately.
“Brooke…”
Larry’s eyes slowly open.
“I’m here, Dad.”
“I… finally understand…”
“What?”
“Don’t… become… me.”
Brooke’s tears fall harder as the ambulance doors close.
SCENE 8 — THE HOSPITAL
Hours later, Bethany and Brooke sit silently in the hospital waiting room.
Finally, a doctor walks through the doors.
“Doctor… how is my father?”
“We’ve stabilized him.”
Brooke breathes a sigh of relief, but the doctor doesn’t leave.
“However… there is something you both need to know.”
“What happened?”
The doctor reaches into his coat and pulls out a small envelope.
“Before the accident, Larry was carrying this in his pocket.”
Brooke slowly takes the envelope.
“Why would Dad write something for me?”
She turns the envelope over and sees a message written across the back.
Her eyes suddenly widen.
“No…”
“What does it say?”
Brooke looks up with tears in her eyes.
“Dad knew this was going to happen…”
Before Brooke can open the envelope, the hospital lights suddenly flicker.
The door to Larry’s room bursts open.
“Doctor! You need to come now!”
Brooke drops the envelope.
Bethany turns toward Larry’s room.
And for the first time that night…
They realize the accident may not have been an accident at all.
