Anthony Makes a Decision That Could Change Everything
Anthony had already made up his mind — but one unexpected phone call was about to change everything.
The evening had become unusually quiet inside Anthony’s house. Shayla was sitting across the room, looking at him with a worried expression. She could tell something was different about him. Anthony had barely spoken since he came home, and every time she tried to ask what was wrong, he avoided her eyes.
“Anthony, you’ve been quiet all evening. What’s going on?”
“I’ve made a decision, Shayla.”
“What kind of decision?”
Anthony stood up and walked toward the window. His face was serious, almost emotionless.
“I’ve decided that I’m going to marry D’Nisha officially.”
Shayla stared at him in disbelief. She knew Anthony had been frustrated with their relationship, but hearing him say that he wanted to marry another woman made everything feel real.
“You’re serious?”
“Yes. I’ve thought about it for a long time. I keep giving you chances, Shayla. Every time, something happens. You make the same mistakes, and this time I’m not going to ignore it.”
“So after everything we’ve been through, you’re just going to leave me?”
“This isn’t something I decided overnight.”
“But what about us? What about the child we had together? Are you really willing to walk away from all of that?”
For the first time, Anthony’s expression changed. He looked down and became silent.
“You still care,” she whispered.
“Caring about someone doesn’t mean I have to keep living the same life.”
Shayla wiped her tears. She knew Anthony had made up his mind, but she still couldn’t believe he was ready to end their marriage.
“And D’Nisha? She’s the reason you’re doing this?”
“No. I’m making this decision because I believe I deserve a different kind of marriage.”
Just then, Anthony’s phone began ringing.
D’Nisha was calling.
“Answer it.”
Anthony hesitated before answering.
“Hello?”
“Anthony, are you sure about what we talked about? Because I don’t want to be the reason you destroy your family.”
Anthony looked toward Shayla.
“I’m sure.”
“You really plan to make it official?”
“Yes.”
“And Shayla?”
“I’m going to divorce her.”
Shayla heard every word. Her face went pale. Anthony ended the call and put his phone away.
“If you’re leaving me, then at least tell me one thing. What happens to the child?”
“I’ll always be there for my child.”
“You mean you’ll take the child back?”
“If I have to, yes. I’m not going to abandon my responsibility.”
“And what happens to me?”
“You’ll have to take care of your own expenses. I’m not going to continue supporting a marriage I no longer believe in.”
Shayla looked completely broken.
“So you want me to start over by myself while you go and have a happy marriage with D’Nisha?”
Anthony didn’t answer. That silence hurt Shayla more than anything he could have said.
But then something unexpected happened.
Shayla suddenly reached into a drawer and pulled out a small envelope.
“What’s that?”
“Something I should have shown you a long time ago.”
“What truth?”
“I wasn’t going to show you tonight. But if you’re really going to divorce me, then you deserve to know the truth.”
“It’s about the child.”
Anthony froze.
“What about the child?”
Shayla didn’t answer. Instead, she placed the envelope on the table.
“Open it.”
Anthony slowly picked up the envelope, but before he could open it, his phone rang again.
This time, it wasn’t D’Nisha.
It was someone Anthony hadn’t heard from in years.
“Hello?”
“Anthony, you need to stop the divorce before it’s too late.”
“Who is this?”
“You don’t know the whole truth about what happened before your child was born.”
Anthony looked at Shayla. She was standing completely still.
“What did you do, Shayla?”
“I told you there was something you needed to know.”
Anthony looked at the unopened envelope. Then he looked at his phone.
For the first time that night, his confidence disappeared.
He had already decided to divorce Shayla, take responsibility for his child, and start a new life with D’Nisha.
But now one question was standing between Anthony and that future:
What was inside that envelope?
What was inside that envelope?
Anthony reached toward it…
Then he stopped.
“Shayla,” he said quietly, “before I sign anything, I need the truth.”
Shayla nodded through her tears.
“I knew you would eventually ask.”
Anthony opened the envelope.
But what he saw inside made him completely speechless.
And suddenly, the divorce he thought was already decided was no longer as simple as it seemed.
