WHEN AMBER CATCHES DAVE CROSSING THE LINE WITH EVELYN
INT. DAVE AND AMBER’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING
The house is unusually quiet. Dave sits on the couch, scrolling through his phone.
He looks tired, distracted, and emotionally distant. Suddenly, a soft knock comes
from the front door.
Dave looks toward the door.
DAVE
Who is it?
Another knock echoes through the house. Dave gets up and walks toward the door.
He opens it—and freezes when he sees Evelyn standing outside.
DAVE
Evelyn?
EVELYN
Can I come in?
Dave hesitates. He clearly wasn’t expecting his ex to appear at his home.
After a long pause, he steps aside.
DAVE
I wasn’t expecting you.
EVELYN
I know. But I needed to talk to you.
INT. LIVING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER
Evelyn sits on the couch while Dave remains standing nearby. The tension between
them is obvious. Dave folds his arms, waiting for an explanation.
DAVE
Why are you here, Evelyn?
EVELYN
I came to ask you something about Amber.
DAVE
What about her?
EVELYN
Dave, are you really happy with Amber?
Dave’s expression immediately changes.
DAVE
Why are you asking me that?
EVELYN
Because your sister told me everything. She told me about Wayne and Amber.
Dave becomes serious. He doesn’t like where this conversation is going.
DAVE
Evelyn, whatever you heard, this is between me and Amber.
EVELYN
But that’s exactly what I don’t understand. You know everything, Dave.
You know about Wayne. You know about Amber’s past. And after knowing all of that,
you still chose to keep her in your house.
DAVE
Because I love her.
Evelyn’s smile disappears. She looks down, trying to hide how deeply those words
have affected her.
EVELYN
You really love her?
DAVE
Yes.
Evelyn takes a deep breath. She has clearly been holding something inside for a
very long time.
EVELYN
Then why does it hurt me so much to hear you say that?
DAVE
Evelyn…
EVELYN
I tried to move on, Dave. I really did. I told myself that enough time had passed
and that you had moved on. But I couldn’t do it.
Evelyn stands and looks directly into Dave’s eyes.
EVELYN
Even after all this time, I still haven’t been able to let go of my love for you.
I still love you, Dave.
Dave looks uncomfortable. He knows Evelyn is crossing an emotional boundary.
DAVE
Evelyn, you can’t come here and say things like that.
EVELYN
Why not?
Evelyn takes a step closer.
DAVE
Because I’m with Amber.
EVELYN
But does that mean you stopped caring about me?
Dave doesn’t answer immediately. Evelyn interprets his hesitation as a sign that
perhaps some feelings remain.
EVELYN
Just tell me you never loved me.
DAVE
You know that’s not true.
Evelyn’s eyes fill with tears. She steps even closer and reaches for Dave’s hand.
EVELYN
Then maybe there’s still something between us.
DAVE
Evelyn, please.
But Evelyn doesn’t step away. She moves closer, crossing a line that should never
have been crossed. Dave doesn’t immediately pull away.
Suddenly, the front door opens.
Dave’s eyes widen.
Evelyn turns around.
INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
Amber stands in the doorway. She has seen everything.
Her expression changes from confusion to complete shock—and then to anger.
AMBER
Dave?
Dave immediately steps away from Evelyn.
DAVE
Amber, wait!
AMBER
Don’t.
Amber slowly closes the door behind her. Her eyes remain fixed on Evelyn.
AMBER
What is she doing here?
DAVE
She came to talk to me.
AMBER
Talk?
Amber lets out a bitter laugh.
AMBER
That wasn’t talking, Dave. I saw everything with my own eyes!
DAVE
It wasn’t what you think.
AMBER
Then what was it? Your ex came into our house, told you she still loves you,
got that close to you—and you just stood there!
Dave tries to speak, but Amber’s anger grows.
AMBER
I trusted you, Dave.
DAVE
And you can still trust me.
AMBER
Then why didn’t you push her away?
Dave falls silent. His silence hurts Amber more than any explanation could.
EVELYN
Amber, I came here because I still have feelings for Dave. I wasn’t trying to…
AMBER
You weren’t trying to what?
Amber steps toward Evelyn, but Dave quickly moves between them.
DAVE
Amber, please calm down.
AMBER
Don’t tell me to calm down!
Amber’s eyes fill with tears.
AMBER
You know everything I’ve been through. You know how hard it was for me to trust
someone again. And this is what I get?
DAVE
I’m sorry.
AMBER
Sorry doesn’t erase what I just saw.
INT. LIVING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER
Evelyn realizes she has made the situation worse. She slowly walks toward the door.
EVELYN
Dave…
Dave doesn’t respond.
EVELYN
I meant everything I said.
Evelyn leaves.
The door closes behind her. Silence fills the room.
Amber and Dave are finally alone.
DAVE
Amber…
AMBER
Don’t come any closer.
Dave stops.
AMBER
Tonight, you showed me exactly where I stand.
DAVE
That’s not true.
AMBER
Then prove it.
Dave looks at her with regret.
AMBER
If you really choose me, then you’re going to have to show me that Evelyn has
no place between us.
DAVE
I choose you.
Amber looks at him, but the pain in her eyes hasn’t disappeared.
AMBER
We’ll see.
Amber turns and walks upstairs, leaving Dave alone in the living room.
Dave looks toward the stairs, realizing how close he is to losing Amber.
His phone suddenly begins to ring.
Dave looks at the screen.
It’s Evelyn.
Dave stares at the call. He remembers Amber’s hurt expression.
After a long pause, he turns the phone off.
DAVE
I can’t lose her.
FADE OUT.
WHAT WILL AMBER DO NEXT?
WILL SHE FORGIVE DAVE, OR WILL EVELYN’S RETURN DESTROY THEIR RELATIONSHIP?
