The Lie That Destroyed Larry’s Trust

The Lie That Destroyed Larry’s Trust

A dramatic story of betrayal, truth, and a broken marriage

Scene 1 — Bianca’s Law Office — Day

The office is unusually quiet.

Larry sits beside Bethany, waiting for answers. Across the desk, Lawyer Bianca carefully reviews the documents in front of her.

Bethany looks confident. Larry still believes her.

He has spent days defending Bethany, convinced that she would never go as far as having Sharra’s mother arrested.

Bianca finally looks up.

BIANCA

“Larry, before we continue, there is something you need to understand.”

Larry leans forward.

LARRY

“What is it?”

Bianca places several documents on the desk.

BIANCA

“These records show that Bethany was involved in the complaint that led to Sharra’s mother being arrested.”

Larry freezes.

His eyes slowly move toward Bethany.

LARRY

“What?”

Bethany immediately shakes her head.

BETHANY

“That’s not true.”

BIANCA

“I’m afraid it is. The documents contain the information that was submitted, and the timeline clearly connects Bethany to the complaint.”

Larry stares at Bethany.

His expression changes from confusion to disbelief.

LARRY

“You told me you had nothing to do with it.”

Bethany struggles to respond.

BETHANY

“Larry, you have to listen to me. I can explain.”

Larry slowly stands.

LARRY

“No. You told me you would never do something like that.”

Bethany’s confidence disappears.

BETHANY

“I didn’t want things to become this complicated.”

LARRY

“Complicated?”

He looks at Bianca, embarrassed.

Then he looks back at Bethany.

LARRY

“You stood in front of me and lied.”

Scene 2 — The Humiliation

Larry remembers Sharra’s face.

He remembers the way she looked at him when he defended Bethany.

He remembers Sharra asking him to believe that Bethany was responsible.

Larry had refused.

He had chosen Bethany’s word over Sharra’s.

Now the truth is sitting directly in front of him.

Larry looks devastated.

LARRY

“I defended you.”

BETHANY

“Larry…”

LARRY

“I told Sharra that she was wrong about you.”

His voice becomes heavier.

LARRY

“I told her that you would never hurt her family.”

Bethany begins to cry.

BETHANY

“I was scared of losing you.”

LARRY

“So you lied?”

Bethany says nothing.

LARRY

“And you let me humiliate myself in front of Sharra?”

BETHANY

“I never wanted you to hate me.”

LARRY

“You should have thought about that before you lied.”

Bianca quietly watches the confrontation.

Larry picks up the documents. His hands tremble with anger.

LARRY

“I trusted you more than anyone.”

He walks toward the door.

LARRY

“Sorry doesn’t fix this.”

Scene 3 — Larry’s House — Evening

The front door opens.

Larry enters the house.

His face is tense. He says nothing.

Bethany follows behind him.

BETHANY

“Larry, please wait.”

Larry keeps walking.

He enters his bedroom and closes the door.

Bethany stands outside.

BETHANY

“Please let me explain.”

Larry doesn’t answer.

Inside the room, Larry stands silently.

He looks around the room. Memories of his marriage with Bethany suddenly feel meaningless.

Larry walks toward a wooden drawer.

He opens it.

Inside are several personal documents.

His eyes stop on one envelope.

Larry pulls it out.

He opens the envelope.

Inside are divorce papers.

Larry stares at them for several seconds.

Then he grips the papers tightly.

Scene 4 — The Divorce Papers

The bedroom door suddenly opens.

Bethany enters with tears in her eyes.

BETHANY

“Larry, please. Just listen to me once.”

Larry turns around.

The divorce papers are in his hand.

Bethany notices them.

Her face immediately changes.

BETHANY

“What is that?”

Larry walks toward her.

He places the papers in front of her.

LARRY

“Divorce papers.”

Bethany stares at him in shock.

BETHANY

“No…”

LARRY

“Yes.”

Bethany shakes her head.

BETHANY

“You can’t do this.”

Larry looks directly into her eyes.

LARRY

“You lied to me.”

Bethany begins crying.

BETHANY

“I made a mistake.”

LARRY

“You made a choice.”

Bethany reaches for his hand.

Larry pulls away.

BETHANY

“Larry, I love you.”

Larry looks heartbroken rather than angry.

LARRY

“If you loved me, you would have told me the truth.”

Bethany has no answer.

Larry points toward the papers.

LARRY

“Sign them.”

Bethany looks down. Her hands begin to tremble.

BETHANY

“Please don’t leave me.”

Larry’s voice rises with anger.

LARRY

“You didn’t think about losing me when you lied!”

Bethany cries silently.

Larry takes a breath, trying to control his emotions.

But the betrayal is too deep.

LARRY

“I trusted you when everyone else warned me.”

He looks away.

LARRY

“And because of your lie, I lost my respect in front of Sharra.”

BETHANY

“I never wanted that.”

LARRY

“But that’s what happened.”

Scene 5 — The Final Warning

Larry moves closer to the door.

His voice becomes cold and final.

LARRY

“I defended you because I believed you were telling me the truth.”

He points toward the divorce papers.

LARRY

“Now I know who you really are.”

Bethany shakes her head desperately.

BETHANY

“Larry, please give me another chance.”

Larry closes his eyes for a moment.

When he opens them, his decision is clear.

LARRY

“No more chances.”

Bethany looks devastated.

LARRY

“Sign those papers.”

He pauses.

LARRY

“And leave my life.”

Bethany cries.

LARRY

“Leave my life and this house permanently.”

BETHANY

“Where am I supposed to go?”

Larry looks away.

LARRY

“That is no longer my responsibility.”

Bethany stands completely silent.

Larry walks toward the door.

Before leaving, he stops.

LARRY

“You didn’t just lie to me, Bethany.”

He turns back.

LARRY

“You destroyed the last piece of trust I had in you.”

Larry walks out.

The door closes behind him.

Bethany remains alone in the room.

The divorce papers lie on the table between them.

Scene 6 — Larry’s Decision

Larry walks down the hallway.

His anger slowly turns into sadness.

He remembers Sharra.

He remembers her disappointment.

He remembers the moment he chose to believe Bethany instead of her.
