The house is unusually quiet.
Sharra sits alone on the couch, staring at her phone.
Her face is tense. Her thoughts keep returning to her mother and everything that has happened.
She takes a slow breath and puts the phone down.
SHARRA
I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore.
She looks toward the window.
Her eyes become emotional.
SHARRA
My mom is going through so much… and somehow I’m carrying all of it.
Sharra presses a hand against her chest.
She tries to stand.
But she suddenly feels weak.
She sits back down.
SHARRA
Something doesn’t feel right.
She closes her eyes for a moment.
The pressure of everything seems to overwhelm her.
Her phone slips from her hand and lands on the couch.
Sharra struggles to remain calm.
SHARRA
Please… just let me get through this.
She leans back.
The room becomes quiet again.
A car pulls up outside.
Brooke steps out.
She has come to check on Sharra after hearing that she has been struggling emotionally.
Brooke walks toward the house.
She knocks.
No answer.
She knocks again.
BROOKE
Sharra?
Still nothing.
Brooke slowly opens the door.
Brooke steps inside.
BROOKE
Sharra, it’s me.
She looks around.
Then she notices Sharra sitting motionless on the couch.
Brooke immediately becomes concerned.
BROOKE
Sharra?
She rushes closer.
Sharra opens her eyes slightly.
SHARRA
Brooke…
Brooke kneels beside her.
BROOKE
What’s wrong? Talk to me.
Sharra tries to answer, but she is too overwhelmed.
Brooke notices that something is seriously wrong.
BROOKE
Okay. Don’t move. Just stay right there.
Brooke reaches for her phone.
Her hands are shaking.
She quickly calls emergency services.
BROOKE
Hello? I need an ambulance.
She looks at Sharra.
BROOKE
My friend is having a medical emergency. Please send someone right away.
Brooke listens carefully to the operator.
She gives the location.
BROOKE
Yes, I’m staying with her.
She puts the phone on speaker and moves closer to Sharra.
BROOKE
Sharra, you’re not alone. I’m right here.
SHARRA
I was thinking about my mom…
Brooke’s eyes fill with concern.
BROOKE
I know. I know you’ve been carrying so much.
She gently holds Sharra’s hand.
BROOKE
But right now, you need to focus on yourself.
SHARRA
I didn’t want anyone to worry about me.
BROOKE
You should have called me.
Brooke looks toward the door.
She can hear sirens approaching in the distance.
BROOKE
Help is coming.
Sharra closes her eyes.
Brooke becomes even more worried.
BROOKE
Sharra, stay with me.
Sharra opens her eyes again.
SHARRA
I’m scared.
Brooke stays beside her.
BROOKE
You don’t have to be scared alone.
Emergency responders arrive.
An ambulance pulls up.
Medical responders quickly enter the house.
Brooke steps aside but refuses to leave.
The responders begin checking Sharra.
Brooke watches anxiously.
BROOKE
Please help her.
RESPONDER
We’re going to take care of her. We’re taking her to the hospital now.
Brooke nods.
Sharra looks toward Brooke.
SHARRA
Brooke…
Brooke moves closer.
BROOKE
I’m coming with you.
Sharra gives a small nod.
The responders carefully prepare to move her.
Brooke follows them toward the door.
The ambulance doors open.
Sharra is taken toward the ambulance.
Brooke stands nearby, visibly shaken.
She quickly calls someone she trusts.
BROOKE
Sharra is being taken to the hospital.
She listens.
BROOKE
I don’t know what happened exactly. She was under so much stress about her mom, and then she suddenly became very sick.
Brooke looks toward the ambulance.
BROOKE
I’m going with her. I’ll let you know what the doctors say.
She ends the call.
The ambulance begins to leave.
Sharra lies quietly while the medical team monitors her.
Brooke sits nearby.
She looks worried but tries to stay strong.
BROOKE
You scared me so bad.
SHARRA
I’m sorry.
BROOKE
Don’t apologize.
Brooke gently squeezes her hand.
BROOKE
Just get better.
SHARRA
I keep thinking about my mom.
BROOKE
We’ll deal with everything one thing at a time.
BROOKE
Right now, you’re the priority.
The ambulance continues toward the hospital.
The ambulance arrives.
Doctors and nurses quickly take Sharra inside.
Brooke follows until she is asked to wait outside.
BROOKE
Please take care of her.
DOCTOR
We’re going to examine her and find out what’s happening.
The doctor disappears behind the doors.
Brooke remains in the hallway.
She sits down.
Her hands are still shaking.
BROOKE
Please be okay, Sharra.
Minutes pass.
Brooke stands again when the doctor finally walks toward her.
BROOKE
Doctor?
DOCTOR
We’re examining her now. She needs to be monitored carefully.
BROOKE
Is she going to be okay?
DOCTOR
It’s too early to say everything, but she’s in the right place. We’re doing the necessary tests and keeping a close eye on her.
Brooke exhales with relief.
BROOKE
Thank you.
The doctor walks back toward the emergency room.
Brooke looks through the small window in the door.
She sees Sharra surrounded by medical staff.
BROOKE
You have been fighting for everybody else for so long.
She wipes away a tear.
BROOKE
Now somebody needs to fight for you.
Brooke sits down again.
She takes out her phone.
There are several missed calls and messages.
But she ignores them.
Her attention remains on Sharra.
The hallway is quieter now.
Brooke remains in the waiting area.
NURSE
She’s being monitored closely. The doctor will speak with you again soon.
Brooke nods.
BROOKE
Thank you.
The nurse leaves.
Brooke looks toward the emergency room doors.
BROOKE
Come on, Sharra.
She takes a deep breath.
BROOKE
You’ve got to come back to us.
Inside the room, Sharra slowly opens her eyes.
The sound of the hospital continues around her.
She looks toward the doorway.
For the first time since Brooke arrived, her expression seems a little calmer.
Outside, Brooke waits.
She has no idea what the doctors will say next.
She is not leaving Sharra alone.
