Larry Loses His Temper With Brooke

Larry Loses His Temper With Brooke

The room went completely silent when Larry stepped through the door.

Brooke was standing near the sofa, holding her phone tightly in one hand. She had expected Larry to argue with her, maybe yell at her, maybe demand an explanation. But the look on his face told her that this conversation was going to be different.

Larry stopped a few feet away.

Larry: “Brooke, tell me the truth.”

Brooke looked away.

Brooke: “What are you talking about?”

Larry’s anger immediately rose.

Larry: “You know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Brooke swallowed and placed her phone on the table.

Brooke: “I didn’t do anything.”
Larry: “Nothing?”
Brooke: “Yes, nothing.”

Larry shook his head.

Larry: “After everything that happened, you’re still going to lie to me?”
Brooke: “I’m not lying.”
Larry: “You are!”

Brooke stepped backward.

Brooke: “Dad, please calm down.”
Larry: “Don’t tell me to calm down!”

The Argument Explodes

The argument had already become intense, but neither of them expected Larry to lose control and strike Brooke.

Brooke froze. Her eyes filled with tears, and her expression completely changed. She slowly touched her face, shocked by what had just happened.

Larry stood still. The anger on his face remained, but there was also a brief moment of realization.

Brooke: “Why would you do that?”

Larry didn’t answer immediately.

Brooke: “I was already scared of what you were going to say, and now you did this?”

Larry looked away.

Larry: “I was angry.”
Brooke: “That doesn’t make it okay!”

Her voice broke as she began crying.

Brooke: “You could have yelled at me. You could have grounded me. You could have told me I was wrong. But you didn’t have to hit me.”

Larry’s expression became conflicted.

Larry: “Brooke…”
Brooke: “No! Don’t say my name like everything is normal.”

She wiped her tears.

Brooke: “I was already scared of you, and now you made it worse.”

Brooke Finally Speaks Her Mind

Larry: “I was furious because I felt like you betrayed me.”
Brooke: “I didn’t betray you.”
Larry: “You didn’t tell me the truth.”
Brooke: “I was afraid you wouldn’t listen!”

Larry became quiet.

Brooke: “Every time I try to explain myself, you decide what happened before I even finish talking.”

Larry looked down.

Brooke: “You think I’m the problem in everything.”
Larry: “I never said that.”
Brooke: “You don’t have to say it. I can see it in the way you look at me.”

For the first time that night, Larry had no argument.

Larry Realizes He Went Too Far

Larry slowly sat on the sofa.

Larry: “Come here.”
Brooke: “I’m not going anywhere near you right now.”
Larry: “I understand.”

A few seconds passed.

Larry: “I’m sorry.”

Brooke looked at him.

Larry: “I mean it. I was angry, but that doesn’t excuse what I did.”
Brooke: “You knew better.”
Larry: “I know.”
Brooke: “You’re supposed to protect me.”
Larry: “I know.”

Brooke remained near the hallway.

Brooke: “I need some space.”
Larry: “Take all the space you need.”

Brooke walked toward her room.

Before closing the door, she stopped.

Brooke: “Dad?”
Larry: “What?”
Brooke: “I still want you to listen to me.”
Larry: “I will.”

Brooke closed the door.

The Next Morning

Larry remained alone in the living room, staring at the floor. His anger had disappeared completely. Now he was left with one painful thought: he had been so focused on proving Brooke was wrong that he had forgotten how much his own actions could hurt her.

The next morning, Larry knocked on Brooke’s door.

Larry: “Brooke?”

There was no response.

Larry: “I won’t come inside. I just want to say one thing.”

Silence.

Larry: “I can’t take back what happened. But I can take responsibility for it.”
Brooke: “What do you want me to say?”
Larry: “Nothing. I just want you to know that I’m sorry.”

Larry walked away.

Inside the room, Brooke sat quietly on her bed. She didn’t know whether she could trust Larry’s apology yet.

The Truth Finally Comes Out

Later that morning, Larry returned to Brooke’s door.

Larry: “Can we talk? I promise I won’t interrupt.”

Brooke looked at him cautiously.

Brooke: “And if you get angry?”
Larry: “Then I’ll walk away until I calm down.”

Brooke finally stepped aside.

Brooke: “Okay.”

Larry entered and sat in a chair while Brooke sat across from him.

For the first time in a long time, neither of them shouted.

Brooke began explaining what had really happened.

Larry listened carefully.

And as the truth slowly came out, Larry realized that the argument from the previous night had only been the beginning.

Because Brooke had been hiding something much bigger.

Something that could change Larry’s relationship with her forever.
