Wayne’s Jealousy Pushes Lauren Too Far The room was quiet, but the tension between Lauren and Wayne was impossible to ignore. Lauren stood near the kitchen counter, staring at Wayne. “Why do you keep looking at me like that?” she asked. Wayne folded his arms. “Because I don’t believe you.” Lauren’s face immediately changed. “Believe me about what?” Wayne shook his head. “You know exactly what I’m talking about. Every time Dan’s name comes up, you get nervous. Then you expect me to believe nothing is happening?” Lauren took a step toward him. “Wayne, I have told you the truth.” “You told me what you wanted me to hear.” “That’s not fair.” Wayne’s voice became colder. “Maybe I was stupid for trusting you.” Those words hit Lauren harder than anything else. She looked away, trying to hide how upset she was. “So that’s what you think of me?” Wayne didn’t answer. Lauren nodded slowly. “Fine. If that’s what you believe, then maybe you should stop asking me questions.” She walked away. But Wayne’s accusation stayed in her mind. For the next few days, Wayne became distant. He stopped calling. He stopped checking on her. Whenever Lauren tried to talk, he acted like he had already made up his mind. Lauren was hurt. Then the anger started replacing the hurt. One evening, she looked at her phone and saw Dan’s name. She stared at it for several seconds. “I’m not going back to him,” she whispered. Then she paused. “But Wayne wants to believe I’m with Dan anyway.” A dangerous idea entered her mind. If Wayne wanted to accuse her of something she wasn’t doing, maybe she could make him see exactly how it felt to lose her. Lauren called Dan. “Can you meet me?” Dan sounded surprised. “After everything?” Lauren took a breath. “Just meet me.” The next afternoon, Lauren deliberately met Dan at a café. She knew exactly what she was doing. She laughed at his jokes. She sat close to him. She made sure anyone watching would think something was happening. And someone was watching. Wayne. He stood across the street, staring through the café window. His expression changed instantly. He had believed Lauren was hiding something. Now he thought he had proof. Wayne walked inside. Lauren looked up. Their eyes met. Wayne didn’t say anything at first. Dan smiled. “Well, look who decided to show up.” Wayne ignored him. His eyes stayed on Lauren. “So this is what you’ve been doing?” Lauren stood up. “Wayne—” “No.” He shook his head. “You don’t have to explain.” Lauren could see the jealousy in his eyes. “Then why are you here?” Wayne stepped closer. “Because I wanted to know if I was wrong about you.” Lauren’s heart raced. “And?” Wayne looked at Dan, then back at Lauren. “I guess I got my answer.” Lauren’s anger exploded. “You accused me without proof. You pushed me away. And now you’re standing here acting like you’re the victim?” Wayne’s voice dropped. “I saw you with him.” “Yes, you did.” Lauren paused. “But you didn’t see the reason.” Wayne looked confused. “What reason?” Lauren stared directly into his eyes. “I wanted you to feel what you made me feel.” Wayne went silent. Dan slowly realized what was happening. Lauren continued. “You accused me of something I wasn’t doing. You made me feel like I couldn’t be trusted. So I wanted you to know what it felt like to watch someone you care about walk away.” Wayne’s expression softened. “Lauren…” She shook her head. “No. You don’t get to say my name like everything is suddenly okay.” Wayne stepped closer. “You think I wasn’t hurting?” Lauren’s eyes filled with emotion. “You were hurting me.” Wayne looked down. For the first time, he seemed to realize how far his jealousy had pushed them. Dan quietly stood up. “I think I should leave.” Lauren didn’t stop him. Wayne kept looking at her. “Did you ever really want Dan back?” Lauren hesitated. “No.” Wayne looked relieved for a second. Then Lauren added: “But you made me feel like maybe I should.” That sentence destroyed the little confidence Wayne had left. He swallowed hard. “I don’t want you with him.” Lauren looked at him. “You don’t get to decide that anymore.” Wayne stepped closer. “Then tell me what I have to do.” Lauren stared at him for several seconds. “Nothing.” Wayne froze. Lauren picked up her purse. “If you really love me, Wayne, stop trying to control me and start proving that you trust me.” She walked toward the door. Wayne remained standing there, completely speechless. But just before Lauren left, she stopped. She turned around. “And Wayne?” He looked up. “If you want me back…” She paused. “You better decide how far you’re willing to go.” Lauren walked out. Wayne watched her disappear. His jealousy had brought him to this moment, but now he had one choice to make. Would Wayne finally fight to win Lauren back and prove that his feelings were real? Or would his pride stop him from going after the woman he was terrified of losing? The answer was waiting for him outside that door.
