THE SECRET MEETING
THE SECRET MEETING
The photograph on Wayne’s phone was only half the truth.
And if Danielle had seen the other half, she might have walked away from the restaurant without saying another word.

THE PHOTOGRAPH

But she didn’t know that yet.

She was still staring at Dave.

Dave was sitting across from her, completely silent. Wayne stood nearby, watching them both.

The restaurant suddenly felt colder. For several seconds, nobody moved.

DANIELLE

“Dave… tell me that picture isn’t what I think it is.”

DAVE

“It’s not that simple.”

DANIELLE

“Then make it simple.”

Dave opened his mouth. Nothing came out.

WAYNE

“That silence is exactly why I asked you to meet me here.”

Danielle turned toward Wayne.

DANIELLE

“You knew about this?”

Wayne didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he glanced at Dave.

WAYNE

“I knew enough to become concerned.”

Dave stood. His chair moved slightly across the floor.

DAVE

“Wayne, this is between Danielle and me.”

WAYNE

“No. It stopped being private when you started hiding things from your own wife.”

Danielle looked at Dave again. The word “wife” suddenly carried a different weight.

She had come to the restaurant expecting an explanation about a business matter. Instead, she was standing between two men who clearly knew more than she did.

And somewhere in the middle of it was Amber.

THE MEETING THAT STARTED IT ALL

Three days earlier, Dave had sent Danielle a short message.

No explanation. No details. Just a request to meet him privately.

Danielle had immediately wondered why.

Dave and Danielle had recently started working together on an important business deal connected to Wayne’s company.

Wayne owned the business. Dave was his trusted partner.

Everything appeared professional from the outside.

But recently, Dave had become distracted. He missed meetings. He avoided certain questions.

And whenever Amber’s name came up, his behavior changed.

Danielle had noticed. She simply hadn’t known what it meant.

DAVE

“We need to talk. Please come alone.”

Danielle stared at the message for several seconds. Then she agreed.

She had no idea that decision would change everything.

THE HOTEL RESTAURANT

That evening, Danielle entered the quiet hotel restaurant. Soft music played in the background. Only a few tables were occupied.

Dave was already there. He stood when he saw her.

DAVE

“Thank you for coming.”

Danielle sat across from him.

DANIELLE

“You sounded worried.”

DAVE

“I am.”

DANIELLE

“About the business?”

DAVE

“Partly.”

DANIELLE

“Partly?”

Dave lowered his voice.

DAVE

“There are things happening around Wayne’s company that you don’t know about.”

Danielle looked confused.

DANIELLE

“What kind of things?”

Dave paused. He seemed to be choosing every word carefully.

DAVE

“I think someone is trying to use the business to hide something.”

DANIELLE

“Who?”

DAVE

“I’m not sure.”

Danielle noticed the tension in his face. For the first time, she realized this meeting might be much more serious than she had expected.

DANIELLE

“Then why bring me into it?”

DAVE

“Because I trust you.”

Those words stayed between them. Danielle didn’t know what to say.

Dave reached across the table. For a brief moment, he held her hand. It wasn’t a romantic gesture. It was reassurance.

But from across the restaurant, someone saw it differently.

Wayne had just entered. And he had seen everything.

WAYNE’S SUSPICION

Wayne stopped near the entrance. He watched Dave and Danielle carefully.

Then his eyes moved to Dave’s hand. His expression hardened.

He didn’t approach immediately. Instead, he reached into his pocket and checked his phone.

There was a message waiting for him. A message that had arrived only minutes earlier.

Wayne read it. His face changed.

He looked back at Dave. Then at Danielle.

Whatever he had just learned seemed to confirm his suspicion.

Wayne slowly walked toward their table. Dave finally noticed him.

DAVE

“Wayne…”

WAYNE

“Interesting place for a private business discussion.”

Wayne showed Danielle the photograph.

The picture showed Amber and Dave together. They were standing close. Too close for Danielle to ignore.

DANIELLE

“When was this taken?”

Dave said nothing.

DANIELLE

“Dave?”

Still nothing.

That silence hurt more than an answer.

THE SECRET BEHIND AMBER

Danielle stood from the table.

DANIELLE

“I came here because I thought you needed my help.”

DAVE

“Danielle, wait.”

She turned.

DANIELLE

“You asked me to trust you.”

DAVE

“I do trust you.”

DANIELLE

“Then why does everyone seem to know something except me?”

Dave had no answer. Wayne watched quietly.

WAYNE

“Because Dave has been protecting someone.”

DANIELLE

“Who?”

WAYNE

“Amber.”

Dave’s jaw tightened.

DAVE

“Leave her out of this.”

DANIELLE

“Why are you protecting her?”

DAVE

“Because she didn’t do anything wrong.”

Wayne shook his head.

WAYNE

“That isn’t what the evidence suggests.”

Danielle stared at both men. The restaurant had become strangely quiet.

“Amber and I were meeting because she needed help.”

Danielle frowned.

DANIELLE

“With what?”

Dave hesitated.

DAVE

“I can’t tell you yet.”

Danielle stepped back.

DANIELLE

“Then you’ve already told me enough.”

THE SECOND PHOTO

Wayne watched Danielle disappear through the restaurant entrance. Then he turned toward Dave.

WAYNE

“You should have told her.”

Dave remained silent.

DAVE

“You don’t understand what you’re doing.”

WAYNE

“I understand exactly what I’m doing.”

He opened another photog
