THE HOTEL CONFRONTATION
Scene from the Story
Soft golden lights glow above an elegant rooftop restaurant.
The city stretches beneath them, sparkling in the darkness.
BROOKE and ISAIAH sit across from each other at a private table. A candle flickers between them.
Brooke looks calm, but there is something nervous in her eyes.
Isaiah leans back in his chair, trying to enjoy the evening.
For the first time in a long while, they seem completely alone.
You know what?
Isaiah looks at her.
What?
Brooke smiles softly.
I think I actually like this.
Isaiah raises an eyebrow.
The food?
No.
She looks directly into his eyes.
This.
A quiet moment passes between them.
Isaiah’s expression softens.
Me and you sitting here?
Brooke nods.
Yeah.
Isaiah smiles.
Then maybe we should do this more often.
Brooke’s smile grows.
But before she can answer—
The restaurant doors suddenly swing open.
A YOUNG WOMAN storms inside.
She looks furious.
Her eyes immediately lock onto Isaiah.
Isaiah’s smile disappears.
Brooke turns around.
Who is that?
The woman walks straight toward their table.
Her heels strike the floor with every step.
Isaiah slowly stands.
Wait—
The woman stops directly in front of him.
She looks at Brooke.
Then back at Isaiah.
Her face is filled with anger and disbelief.
So this is what you’re doing?
Isaiah freezes.
Brooke looks between them, confused.
What are you talking about?
The girl lets out a bitter laugh.
Don’t act innocent.
She points at Isaiah.
You told me yesterday that I was the only one.
Brooke’s expression changes.
Isaiah immediately shakes his head.
That’s not what happened.
Really?
She steps closer.
Because yesterday you spent the night with me.
Brooke goes completely still.
The restaurant suddenly feels silent.
Isaiah looks at Brooke.
Brooke, listen to me—
And today you’re here with her?
She looks at Brooke with a mocking smile.
Wow.
Brooke slowly stands.
Her voice is calm, but her eyes reveal the shock she’s feeling.
What exactly is she talking about?
Isaiah struggles to find the right words.
It’s complicated.
Brooke’s face hardens.
No.
She shakes her head.
It doesn’t sound complicated.
A beat.
It sounds very simple.
Isaiah takes a step toward her.
Brooke, please.
She raises her hand, stopping him.
Don’t.
The girl folds her arms.
He was with me last night.
Brooke looks at her.
And you’re sure about that?
Very sure.
She looks at Isaiah.
Unless you’re going to tell her you don’t remember.
Isaiah’s jaw tightens.
I remember.
Brooke’s eyes widen slightly.
That answer hurts more than anything else.
You remember?
Isaiah looks down.
Yes.
Brooke takes a slow breath.
She tries to control her emotions.
Then why did you ask me to come here tonight?
Isaiah looks at her.
Because I wanted to talk to you.
About what?
He doesn’t answer.
Brooke gives a small, painful laugh.
I thought tonight meant something.
The girl interrupts.
Apparently, tonight means something different to him.
Isaiah turns toward her.
Enough.
No.
Her voice rises.
You don’t get to tell me enough after making me believe all those things yesterday.
Brooke looks at Isaiah again.
Did you tell her you cared about her?
Isaiah remains silent.
Brooke’s eyes fill with disappointment.
Isaiah.
I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.
Brooke laughs quietly.
That’s what everyone says after they do.
A long silence.
The candle between them flickers.
Brooke looks at the table.
Two untouched glasses of wine.
A dinner that was supposed to be romantic.
Now it feels like a mistake.
I should go.
Isaiah quickly steps forward.
Brooke, wait.
She turns toward him.
What am I supposed to wait for?
Isaiah doesn’t know what to say.
Brooke’s voice becomes softer.
An explanation?
A pause.
An apology?
Another pause.
Or another girl walking through that door?
Isaiah’s expression falls.
It’s not like that.
Then tell me what it is.
Isaiah looks at the girl.
Then back at Brooke.
The girl watches him carefully.
I made mistakes.
Brooke nods slowly.
Yes.
She wipes a tear before it can fall.
You did.
The girl looks at Isaiah.
So what now?
Isaiah says nothing.
Brooke looks between them.
She realizes she doesn’t want to hear anything else.
You two can figure this out.
She grabs her purse.
Isaiah reaches for her hand.
Brooke pulls away.
Brooke, please don’t leave like this.
She looks at him one last time.
You should have thought about that before tonight.
She walks away.
Isaiah watches her disappear through the restaurant doors.
His face is filled with regret.
The girl remains standing behind him.
For a moment, neither speaks.
Are you going after her?
Isaiah doesn’t answer.
His eyes remain fixed on the doors.
Isaiah?
He finally turns toward the girl.
What happened yesterday was a mistake.
Her expression changes.
A mistake?
Isaiah nods.
I should never have let things get that far.
She stares at him, hurt and angry.
But you did.
Isaiah looks down.
I know.
She takes a step closer.
And now you suddenly realize you want her?
Isaiah looks toward the door again.
His answer is barely a whisper.
I never stopped wanting her.
The girl goes silent.
Isaiah walks away from the table.
He heads toward the elevator.
His phone vibrates.
He pulls it from his pocket.
A message from Brooke.
He opens it.
The message is short.
Isaiah stares at the screen.
His eyes become heavy with regret.
The elevator doors open.
He steps inside.
Before the doors close, he looks back toward the restaurant.
The candle is still burning on the abandoned table.
The dinner is untouched.
The night that was supposed to bring Brooke and Isaiah closer has become the moment that tears them apart.
The elevator doors close.
