BROOKE’S HEARTBREAK TURNS DEADLY — CAN BETHANY SAVE HER IN TIME?
INT. BROOKE’S BEDROOM – NIGHT
Rain taps against the bedroom window. The room is dark except for the soft glow of a lamp in the corner.
Brooke sits on the edge of her bed, completely frozen. Her phone rests in her trembling hand. On the screen is the message that shattered everything.
Isaiah had been cheating on her.
Brooke reads the message again. And again. Her eyes fill with tears.
Her breathing becomes uneven as she slowly places the phone beside her.
BROOKE:
“How could he do this to me?”
She wipes her tears, but more immediately fall.
BROOKE:
“I trusted him… I gave him everything.”
Brooke stands and begins pacing around the room. She looks at old pictures of herself and Isaiah sitting on her dresser.
For a moment, she smiles through her tears.
Then the smile disappears.
She turns the picture face down.
BROOKE:
“You made me feel like I was the only woman in the world. So why wasn’t I enough?”
BROOKE REACHES HER BREAKING POINT
Silence fills the room.
Brooke looks toward the door. Nobody is there. She feels completely alone.
She picks up her phone and looks at Isaiah’s name.
Her thumb hovers over the screen.
She starts typing a message.
“I hope you’re happy.”
She stops and deletes it.
She tries again.
“I loved you.”
She deletes that too.
Finally, she throws the phone onto the bed.
BROOKE:
“I don’t even know who I am anymore.”
Brooke covers her face with both hands and breaks down.
She is overwhelmed by heartbreak and feels as though she cannot see a way forward.
At this moment, Brooke needs someone to intervene before she makes a permanent decision during an overwhelming emotional crisis.
BETHANY WALKS IN
The bedroom door slowly opens.
Bethany walks in.
She immediately notices that something is wrong with Brooke.
BETHANY:
“Brooke?”
Brooke doesn’t answer.
Bethany takes another step inside.
She sees Brooke’s devastated expression and realizes she needs to act quickly.
BETHANY:
“Brooke, what’s going on?”
Brooke looks up. Her face is covered in tears.
BROOKE:
“Bethany… please.”
Bethany immediately moves toward her.
BETHANY:
“No. Look at me, Brooke. Stay with me.”
Bethany moves anything dangerous away from Brooke and makes sure she is not left alone.
BETHANY:
“Whatever you’re feeling right now, you don’t have to handle it by yourself.”
BROOKE FINALLY OPENS UP
Brooke collapses against the bed.
BROOKE:
“He cheated on me.”
Bethany sits beside her.
BROOKE:
“He lied to me. He made me believe I was his everything.”
BETHANY:
“I know you’re hurting.”
BROOKE:
“No, you don’t understand what this feels like!”
Brooke cries harder.
Bethany doesn’t argue with her. Instead, she stays beside her.
BETHANY:
“Maybe I don’t know exactly what you’re feeling. But I know you’re hurting, and I’m not leaving you alone.”
Brooke looks at Bethany.
For the first time that night, Brooke realizes someone is willing to stay.
BETHANY REFUSES TO GIVE UP ON BROOKE
Brooke pulls her hand away.
BROOKE:
“What’s the point anymore?”
Bethany shakes her head.
BETHANY:
“Isaiah made a terrible choice. But his choice doesn’t get to decide what happens to you.”
Brooke looks down.
BROOKE:
“I feel like my whole life just ended.”
BETHANY:
“Your relationship was damaged. That’s not the same thing as your life ending.”
Bethany gently holds Brooke’s hand.
BETHANY:
“You are still here. And that matters.”
Brooke begins crying again.
BETHANY:
“Let me help you get through tonight.”
Brooke finally nods.
GETTING HELP
Bethany picks up Brooke’s phone.
BETHANY:
“I’m calling someone we trust.”
Brooke immediately looks worried.
BROOKE:
“Don’t. Everyone will know.”
BETHANY:
“Let them know you’re hurting. Getting help isn’t something you should be ashamed of.”
Bethany contacts a trusted adult and makes sure Brooke is not left alone.
Brooke sits quietly while Bethany remains beside her.
For Brooke, this is the first step toward safety: she is no longer facing the crisis alone.
THE NEXT MORNING
Sunlight enters through the curtains.
Brooke wakes up slowly. Her eyes are swollen from crying, but she is still here.
Her phone lights up.
Isaiah’s name appears on the screen.
Brooke stares at it.
Her hands begin trembling.
Bethany notices.
BETHANY:
“You don’t have to answer him.”
Brooke looks at the phone.
Then she turns it face down.
BROOKE:
“I’m not ready.”
BETHANY:
“That’s okay.”
Brooke takes a deep breath.
BROOKE:
“I think I need to choose myself this time.”
Bethany smiles softly.
BETHANY:
“That’s the Brooke I know.”
BROOKE MAKES A CHOICE
Brooke looks toward the window.
She knows the heartbreak isn’t magically gone.
She knows there will be difficult days ahead.
But she also knows she doesn’t have to face them alone.
BROOKE:
“Isaiah broke my heart.”
She pauses.
BROOKE:
“But he doesn’t get to break the rest of my life.”
Bethany nods.
BETHANY:
“Exactly.”
The two friends sit together in silence.
Outside, the rain has stopped.
The clouds begin to clear.
