Larry Secretly Marries Lynette and Divorces Bethany
A Secret Marriage That Changes Everything
SCENE 1 — LARRY AND BETHANY’S HOUSE — EARLY MORNING
The house is unusually quiet. Bethany stands in the kitchen preparing breakfast, completely unaware that Larry has already made a decision that could change their marriage forever.
Larry enters the room slowly. He is holding his phone, but he keeps looking down as though he is hiding something.
BETHANY
“Larry, you’ve been acting strange lately. Is something wrong?”
Larry takes a deep breath.
LARRY
“Nothing is wrong, Bethany. I just have a lot on my mind.”
Bethany studies his face carefully.
BETHANY
“You keep saying that, but I know when something is bothering you.”
Suddenly, Larry’s phone vibrates. He quickly checks the screen and locks it again.
Bethany notices his reaction.
BETHANY
“Who was that?”
LARRY
“It was nothing. Just a message.”
Bethany becomes suspicious, but Larry refuses to explain.
SCENE 2 — LYNETTE’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON
Larry sits across from Lynette. She looks nervous and emotional. After several seconds of silence, Lynette finally reaches for Larry’s hand.
LYNETTE
“Larry, I need to tell you something.”
LARRY
“What happened?”
Lynette takes a deep breath.
LYNETTE
“I can’t go to Montana anymore.”
Larry looks surprised.
LARRY
“What do you mean? You were supposed to leave soon.”
LYNETTE
“I know. But everything has changed. I don’t want to leave anymore. I want to stay here with you.”
Larry pulls his hand away and looks uncomfortable.
LARRY
“Lynette, you know I’m married to Bethany.”
Lynette looks directly into his eyes.
LYNETTE
“Then divorce her.”
Larry freezes.
LARRY
“What?”
LYNETTE
“If you really want to be with me, then make a choice. Marry me, Larry. Give me a reason to stay.”
Larry walks toward the window. He knows that Lynette is asking him to make a decision that could hurt Bethany deeply.
SCENE 3 — LARRY’S CAR — NIGHT
Larry sits alone inside his parked car. The city lights reflect across the windshield.
He looks at an old photograph of Bethany on his phone. Then he looks at Lynette’s message.
His emotions are overwhelming.
LARRY
“I don’t know what I’m doing.”
He places his head against the steering wheel.
After several moments, Larry picks up his phone and calls Lynette.
LARRY
“I’ll do it.”
There is silence on the other end.
LYNETTE
“You mean it?”
LARRY
“Yes. I’ll divorce Bethany.”
Lynette sounds relieved.
LYNETTE
“And after that?”
Larry stares through the windshield.
LARRY
“I’ll marry you.”
The decision has been made.
SCENE 4 — LARRY AND BETHANY’S HOUSE — NEXT EVENING
Bethany is sitting on the couch when Larry walks through the front door. She immediately notices the serious expression on his face.
BETHANY
“Larry, what happened?”
Larry sits across from her.
LARRY
“Bethany, I need to talk to you.”
Bethany becomes nervous.
BETHANY
“About what?”
Larry looks down before finally speaking.
LARRY
“About our marriage.”
Bethany’s expression changes immediately.
BETHANY
“Are you saying you want a divorce?”
Larry slowly nods.
BETHANY
“Why?”
Larry struggles to answer.
LARRY
“I’ve made a decision about my life. I want to be with Lynette.”
Bethany stands in shock.
BETHANY
“Lynette? So this has been happening behind my back?”
LARRY
“I’m sorry.”
BETHANY
“Sorry isn’t enough, Larry. You promised me we were going to work through our problems.”
Larry remains silent as Bethany struggles to hold back her tears.
SCENE 5 — DIVORCE OFFICE — DAY
The divorce papers sit on the desk between Larry and Bethany.
Bethany stares at the documents with trembling hands.
BETHANY
“I never thought we would end like this.”
LARRY
“Neither did I.”
Bethany signs the papers. Larry signs afterward.
Their marriage is officially over.
Bethany stands and looks at Larry one final time.
BETHANY
“I hope you understand what you’ve done.”
Larry lowers his eyes.
Bethany walks out of the office without looking back.
SCENE 6 — WEDDING VENUE — EVENING
The wedding venue is beautifully decorated with white flowers, glowing lights, candles, and a large floral arch.
Lynette walks toward Larry wearing a beautiful wedding dress.
Larry waits nervously at the front.
They look at each other as the music slowly fades.
LYNETTE
“You really came.”
LARRY
“I told you I would.”
The officiant begins the ceremony.
OFFICIANT
“Do you, Larry, take Lynette to be your wife?”
Larry pauses for a moment. He remembers Bethany, but then looks at Lynette.
LARRY
“I do.”
The officiant turns toward Lynette.
OFFICIANT
“And do you, Lynette, take Larry to be your husband?”
LYNETTE
“I do.”
They exchange rings.
HIGHLIGHT: Larry has officially married Lynette after secretly ending his marriage to Bethany.
SCENE 7 — BETHANY’S HOUSE — SAME NIGHT
Bethany sits alone in her living room. The divorce papers are still on the table.
She looks at an old photograph of herself and Larry.
Her phone suddenly buzzes.
Bethany checks the screen and discovers that Larry has married Lynette.
She freezes.
BETHANY
“He married her already?”
She slowly puts the phone down.
BETHANY
“Larry… how could you?”
Tears roll down her cheeks, but beneath the heartbreak, a new determination begins to appear.
SCENE 8 — WEDDING VENUE — LATER THAT NIGHT
Larry and Lynette stand together after the ceremony.
Lynette holds Larry’s hand and smiles.
LYNETTE
“We’re finally together.”
LARRY
“Yes.”
But Larry’s smile slowly disappears.
Lynette notices.
LYNETTE
“Are you thinking about Bethany?”
Larry hesitates.
LARRY
“I’m thinking about everything that happened.”
LYNETTE
“You made your choice.”
Larry looks down at his new wedding ring.
LARRY
“I know.”
Lynette squeezes his hand.
LYNETTE
“Then we have to live with it.”
Larry realizes that his decision has consequences that cannot simply be erased.
SCENE 9 — THE NEXT MORNING
By morning, the news of Larry and Lynette’s marriage begins to spread.
Bethany refuses to answer Larry’s calls.
Meanwhile, Larry sits beside Lynette in their new home. The happiness he expected is mixed with uncertainty.
LYNETTE
“Larry, are you happy?”
Larry looks down at his wedding ring.
LARRY
“I wanted this.”
He pauses.
LARRY
“But wanting something doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences.”
Lynette becomes quiet.
Across town, Bethany stands beside her window.
She wipes away her tears and looks toward the morning sky.
BETHANY
“If Larry thinks this is the end, he’s wrong.”
She turns away from the window with a determined expression.
FINAL TWIST
Larry thought divorcing Bethany and marrying Lynette would give him a fresh start. But Bethany’s heartbreak is quickly turning into determination. The secret marriage is no longer a secret, and the consequences are only beginning.
