Bethany’s Last Hope

1. The News That Shattered Her

When Bethany found out that Larry was planning to divorce her, she felt as if the ground had disappeared beneath her feet. For a few moments, she sat completely still, unable to understand what was happening. Then one thought came into her mind—Sharra might be the only person who could stop Larry.

Larry often listened to Sharra, and Bethany believed that if Sharra asked him to reconsider, perhaps he would change his decision. Without wasting another moment, Bethany hurried to Sharra’s house.

When Sharra opened the door, she was shocked to see Bethany standing there with tears streaming down her face. Before Sharra could even ask what had happened, Bethany suddenly fell to her knees and grabbed Sharra’s feet.

2. Bethany Begs for Mercy

“Sharra, please forgive me!” Bethany cried. “I am begging you. Please talk to Larry. Tell him not to divorce me. I cannot live without him.”

Sharra tried to help her stand, but Bethany held onto her hands desperately.

“You know Larry listens to you,” Bethany continued through her tears. “Please, just talk to him once. Tell him not to leave me. I will do anything. I am ready to give you everything you want, but please stop Larry from divorcing me.”

Sharra stared at Bethany in silence. There was no happiness on her face, even though Bethany’s suffering might have given her a reason to celebrate. Instead, Sharra looked deeply serious, as memories of the past returned to her mind.

3. Sharra Reminds Her of the Past

“Bethany,” Sharra finally said, “do you remember how happy you were when Larry divorced me? At that time, you never cared about my pain. You never understood what it felt like to lose the person you loved.”

Bethany lowered her head. Her tears continued to fall.

“You always tried to turn Larry against me,” Sharra continued. “You said things about me that created misunderstandings between us. You tried to destroy our relationship. And now, when the same pain has come to your own door, you finally understand what it feels like.”

“I know I was wrong,” Bethany whispered. “I realize my mistakes now. I did terrible things, Sharra. But I don’t want to lose Larry. I will change everything. Just give me one chance.”

4. One Last Promise

Sharra remained silent for a while before finally saying, “I cannot promise you that Larry will listen to me. But I will try to talk to him. The final decision will still be his.”

Bethany immediately held Sharra’s hands.

“I am ready to give you anything,” she said desperately. “Whatever you ask, I will do it. Just stop Larry from divorcing me.”

Sharra looked directly into Bethany’s eyes and replied, “Bethany, today you are facing the consequences of your own actions. But if you truly want to change, perhaps there is still something you can save. Remember, you cannot bring someone back with words alone. You have to prove that you have changed.”

5. The Voice Behind the Door

Bethany wiped away her tears and nodded. For the first time, she truly understood that the things she had done in the past had finally come back to her.

Sharra promised that she would speak to Larry. Bethany looked at her with a small spark of hope and slowly turned toward the door.

But just as Bethany reached the doorway, a mysterious voice suddenly came from inside the house.

“Sharra… don’t tell her that I’m here.”

Bethany froze.

Her heart began beating rapidly. She slowly turned around and looked at Sharra. The color had suddenly disappeared from Sharra’s face.

Bethany stared at the closed door, completely confused. Who was hiding inside the room? Why had that person asked Sharra to keep their presence a secret? And, most importantly, what did this mysterious person know about Larry’s decision?

Bethany’s hope of saving her marriage had suddenly turned into a terrifying mystery—and she was about to discover a secret that could change everything.
