The Betrayal She Didn’t Expect

A Cinematic Drama

INT. AMBER’S PODCAST STUDIO – AFTERNOON

The podcast studio is buzzing with energy. Microphones are set, cameras are recording, and Amber sits confidently behind the main desk.

Across the room, Shayla watches her. Her expression slowly changes.

She tries to smile, but jealousy is obvious in her eyes.

AMBER

You good?

SHAYLA

Yeah. I’m good.

Amber nods and returns to her notes. Shayla watches her again.

SHAYLA

You really built something big here.

AMBER

I worked hard for it.

SHAYLA

I can see that.

Shayla grabs her phone and walks toward the hallway. Her jealousy grows stronger with every step.

INT. PODCAST STUDIO – HALLWAY – MOMENTS LATER

Shayla stops near a quiet corner and pulls out her phone. She scrolls through her contacts.

Then she stops at Dave’s name.

SHAYLA

Hey, Dave. What are you doing?

DAVE

Nothing much. Why?

SHAYLA

I wanted to talk to you.

DAVE

You could’ve just said that.

SHAYLA

I don’t want to talk over the phone.

Shayla glances toward the studio.

SHAYLA

Can you meet me?

DAVE

Meet you where?

SHAYLA

Just come. I need to tell you something.

INT. PODCAST STUDIO – MAIN ROOM – CONTINUOUS

Dave’s voice suddenly becomes louder. His phone is connected to the studio speaker.

Amber looks up. She hears everything.

SHAYLA

Please, Dave. I really need to see you.

Amber slowly looks toward the phone. She doesn’t say anything.

AMBER

Who was that?

DAVE

Shayla.

AMBER

Why does Shayla need to meet you?

DAVE

I don’t know. She said she wanted to talk.

AMBER

And you’re going?

DAVE

I guess I’ll hear her out.

Amber nods slowly and turns back toward her laptop. But her face says something completely different.

EXT. PODCAST STUDIO PARKING LOT – LATER

Dave walks toward his car. Across the parking lot, Amber watches from a distance.

Amber takes a deep breath.

AMBER

I just need to know what’s going on.

Dave drives away. Amber starts her own car and quietly follows him.

EXT. COFFEE SHOP – EVENING

Dave parks outside a quiet coffee shop. He steps out and looks around.

Shayla approaches. She smiles when she sees him.

DAVE

Hey.

SHAYLA

Hey.

DAVE

You sounded serious on the phone.

SHAYLA

I am serious.

Shayla looks toward the ground.

SHAYLA

I feel like nobody sees me anymore.

DAVE

What do you mean?

SHAYLA

Everything is about Amber now. Her podcast. Her success. Her attention.

Dave remains silent.

SHAYLA

Sometimes I feel invisible.

Dave tries to respond, but Shayla suddenly kisses him.

Dave freezes in surprise and immediately steps back.

DAVE

Shayla, what are you doing?

THE MOMENT AMBER SEES THEM

Before Shayla can answer, Amber steps out of her car. Her face is filled with shock.

She has seen everything.

DAVE

Amber—

AMBER

Don’t.

Dave takes a step toward her.

DAVE

You don’t understand what happened.

AMBER

I understand exactly what I saw.

AMBER

You called him. You asked him to meet you. And then you kissed him.

Shayla looks down.

SHAYLA

Amber, I—

AMBER

No. You don’t get to explain this away.

EXT. COFFEE SHOP – CONTINUOUS

DAVE

I didn’t ask her to do that.

AMBER

But you came here.

DAVE

Because she said she needed to talk.

AMBER

And you didn’t think to tell me?

Dave struggles to answer.

DAVE

I didn’t think it was going to be like this.

AMBER

That’s the problem, Dave. You didn’t think about me at all.

Amber’s anger slowly gives way to disappointment.

SHAYLA

I was jealous.

AMBER

So you decided to hurt me?

Shayla doesn’t answer. The silence says enough.

INT. AMBER’S CAR – NIGHT

Amber sits behind the wheel. She stares through the windshield.

Her phone rings.

DAVE.

Amber watches the screen but doesn’t answer.

The phone stops. Moments later, it rings again.

Amber still doesn’t answer.

A message appears:

“Please let me explain.”

Amber locks her phone.

INT. DAVE’S HOUSE – NIGHT

Dave walks into his living room and sits down. He calls Amber again.

DAVE

Amber? I know you’re angry.

AMBER

I’m not just angry. I’m disappointed.

DAVE

I never wanted to hurt you.

AMBER

But you did.

A long silence fills the room.

DAVE

Can we talk in person?

AMBER

I don’t know.

AMBER

Right now, I need space.

DAVE

Okay.

INT. AMBER’S HOUSE – LATER THAT NIGHT

Amber sits alone in her living room. Her podcast notes are scattered across the table.

She looks at a photo of herself and Dave. Her expression softens for a moment.

Then the memory of Shayla kissing him returns. Amber turns the photo face down.

AMBER

I trusted both of them.

Her phone buzzes again.

This time, it is a message from Shayla.

“I know I hurt you. But there’s something else you need to know.”

Amber stares at the screen. Her anger returns.

AMBER

What else?

She starts typing a response, then stops. She puts the phone down.

The room falls silent. Amber looks toward the dark window.

Whatever happened tonight has changed everything. And she knows the truth may be even bigger than what she witnessed.

FADE OUT…
