WHEN DAVE SEES WAYNE AND AMBER TOGETHER
SCENE 1 — EXT. AMBER’S HOUSE — LATE AFTERNOON
The sun hangs low over the neighborhood.
Amber steps outside, checking her phone. A new message from Wayne appears on the screen.
She hesitates before opening it.
A message from Wayne catches her attention.
WAYNE
I want to talk to you. I have some very important work to discuss with you.
Amber stares at the message for a moment.
She knows she should probably ignore it.
But curiosity gets the better of her.
She types a short reply.
AMBER
Okay. We can meet.
WAYNE
Thank you. I’ll see you soon.
Amber puts her phone away.
Her expression becomes thoughtful.
She wonders what Wayne could possibly want after everything that happened between them.
SCENE 2 — EXT. QUIET PARK — EVENING
Wayne waits near a bench.
He checks his watch.
A few moments later, Amber approaches.
Wayne looks up.
WAYNE
Amber.
AMBER
Wayne. You said you had something important to discuss.
WAYNE
I do.
Amber sits down, leaving some space between them.
Wayne takes a breath.
WAYNE
You and I had a very good relationship in the past.
Amber looks away.
WAYNE
But not anymore.
AMBER
I know that, Wayne.
WAYNE
Then you also know things changed because you told Dave about me.
AMBER
Wayne, I told Dave because I didn’t want to keep secrets from him.
WAYNE
You didn’t have to tell him everything.
AMBER
I felt like he deserved to know.
WAYNE
If we had stayed together, Dave would never have known about me.
AMBER
Maybe that’s exactly why I had to tell him.
Wayne falls silent.
The tension between them grows.
SCENE 3 — EXT. PARK BENCH — CONTINUOUS
The conversation becomes more personal.
WAYNE
I’m not here to start an argument.
AMBER
Then why did you ask me to come?
WAYNE
Because there are things between us that were never properly discussed.
AMBER
We had our chance, Wayne.
WAYNE
I know.
A long silence follows.
Wayne reaches over and briefly takes Amber’s hand.
Amber looks down at their hands, surprised.
AMBER
Wayne…
WAYNE
I’m just trying to make you understand how I felt.
Amber gently pulls her hand back.
AMBER
I understand how you felt. But things are different now.
WAYNE
Maybe they are.
Amber stands.
AMBER
If this is about the past, I don’t think there’s anything else to discuss.
WAYNE
Just give me a few more minutes.
Amber reluctantly sits again.
SCENE 4 — EXT. PARK ENTRANCE — SAME TIME
A vehicle pulls into the parking area.
Dave steps out.
He looks around, searching for someone.
Then he suddenly stops.
Across the park, he sees Wayne sitting beside Amber.
Dave’s expression changes instantly.
His jaw tightens.
He watches as Wayne and Amber continue talking.
Dave’s anger begins to build.
DAVE
Wayne?
Dave starts walking toward them.
His footsteps become faster.
SCENE 5 — EXT. PARK BENCH — CONTINUOUS
Amber notices Dave approaching.
Her eyes widen.
AMBER
Dave…
Wayne turns around.
He sees Dave.
Dave stops several feet away.
His face is filled with anger.
DAVE
What is he doing here?
AMBER
Dave, calm down.
DAVE
Calm down?
DAVE
You told me you were meeting him?
AMBER
He contacted me. He said he needed to discuss something important.
DAVE
And you came here alone to meet him?
AMBER
Yes, because I thought it was about work.
DAVE
Work?
WAYNE
That’s what I told her.
DAVE
Then why are you sitting here talking about your past?
WAYNE
Because our past is part of the reason we’re having this conversation.
DAVE
Did he tell you what he really wanted?
AMBER
No.
SCENE 6 — EXT. PARK — MOMENTS LATER
The three stand facing one another.
The atmosphere is tense.
WAYNE
You don’t need to turn this into a fight.
DAVE
I’m not looking for a fight.
DAVE
But I don’t trust you.
WAYNE
You never did.
DAVE
And now I know why.
Amber steps between them.
AMBER
Both of you, stop.
DAVE
Why didn’t you tell me you were meeting Wayne?
AMBER
Because I didn’t know how you would react.
DAVE
You were right.
AMBER
Dave, I came here to hear him out. That’s all.
WAYNE
And I only wanted to talk.
DAVE
Then talk.
WAYNE
I wanted Amber to know that I never forgot what we had.
AMBER
Wayne, that’s enough.
SCENE 7 — EXT. PARKING AREA — CONTINUOUS
Dave takes Amber aside.
DAVE
Are you okay?
AMBER
Yes.
DAVE
Did he pressure you into meeting him?
AMBER
No.
DAVE
Then why was he holding your hand?
AMBER
I didn’t expect him to do that.
DAVE
That’s exactly what I’m talking about.
AMBER
Dave, please. Don’t make this worse.
Wayne approaches slowly.
WAYNE
Amber can speak for herself.
DAVE
And she already did.
The two men stare at each other.
Amber steps between them again.
AMBER
I don’t want either of you fighting over me.
Silence.
WAYNE
I didn’t come here to cause trouble.
DAVE
Then you should have kept your distance.
WAYNE
Maybe you’re right.
SCENE 8 — EXT. PARKING LOT — SUNSET
Wayne walks toward his vehicle.
He stops and looks back.
WAYNE
Amber, whatever happens from here, I hope you remember that I only wanted the chance to explain myself.
Amber says nothing.
Wayne gets into his vehicle and drives away.
Dave watches until the vehicle disappears.
He turns toward Amber.
DAVE
We need to talk.
AMBER
I know.
DAVE
And this time, I want the truth.
AMBER
You’ll get it.
Dave looks at her, still visibly upset.
They walk away from the parking lot together.
Behind them, the empty bench remains where Wayne and Amber had been sitting.
The evening grows quiet.
But the tension between the three of them is far from over.
