The Truth Was Only Half Told

The Truth Was Only Half Told

A secret, a hidden message, and a truth that changes everything.

The parking lot was almost empty.

The evening sky had started turning dark, and the bright lights above the parking spaces cast long shadows across the pavement. Brooke stood near the car, her arms crossed, trying to control her emotions.

Isaiah had already turned around and started walking away.

Brooke watched him for a few seconds, completely frustrated.

She couldn’t believe he was leaving again.

“Isaiah!” she called out.

He stopped.

For a moment, he didn’t turn around.

Brooke took a few steps toward him.

“Wait! Why do you always walk away whenever things get difficult?”

Isaiah slowly turned around. His expression was serious.

“Because every time I try to explain myself, you’ve already decided that I’m lying.”

Brooke shook her head.

“That’s not true. I’m asking you for the truth. There’s a difference.”

Isaiah looked at her quietly.

“You keep telling me that nothing happened, but your actions say something completely different.”
“I don’t know what to think anymore!” Brooke replied. “That’s the problem!”

The two stood there in silence.

Brooke looked away, trying to hold back her frustration.

“I trusted you, Isaiah,” she finally said. “And now I don’t even know what’s real anymore.”

Isaiah’s expression changed.

He stepped closer, but kept his distance.

“Brooke, there’s something you don’t know.”
“What?”

Isaiah hesitated.

“The story you heard… it’s not the whole story.”

Brooke frowned.

“What are you talking about?”

Isaiah looked toward the ground for a moment before looking back at her.

“You know what happened from what somebody told you. But you never heard my side.”
“Then tell me.”

Isaiah stayed silent.

“Isaiah,” Brooke said firmly. “Tell me.”

He finally nodded.

“Okay. But once I tell you, you’re going to look at everything differently.”
“Then stop wasting time and tell me.”

Isaiah reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.

“What’s on your phone?”
“Proof.”
“Proof of what?”

Isaiah looked directly at her.

“Proof that I wasn’t the person who started all of this.”

Brooke stared at him.

“You expect me to believe that?”
“I don’t expect you to believe me. I want you to see it for yourself.”

He unlocked his phone.

“I got this a few days ago.”
“Why didn’t you show me this before?”
“Because I was trying to figure out what was actually going on.”
“And now?”
“Now I know enough to realize that somebody has been keeping things from both of us.”
“Who?”

Isaiah didn’t answer.

Instead, he stared at the phone.

“Isaiah, who is it?”
“I don’t want to say a name until you see the evidence.”
“You’re making this even worse.”
“I know.”
“Then show me!”

Isaiah turned the phone toward her.

Brooke looked at the screen.

Her expression immediately changed.

She read the first message.

Then the second.

Her eyes widened.

“What…?”

Isaiah watched her carefully.

“I told you.”
“This doesn’t make sense.”
“It will.”

She looked back at the phone.

There were several messages, dates, and conversations that Brooke had never seen before.

Suddenly, she realized something.

“Wait.”

Isaiah remained silent.

“This conversation happened before you told me about everything.”
“Yes.”
“Then why did you say you didn’t know anything?”

Isaiah took a deep breath.

“Because I was scared.”
“Scared of what?”
“Of losing you.”

Brooke’s expression softened for a moment, but the confusion remained.

“You should have told me.”
“I know.”
“You should have trusted me.”
“I know, Brooke.”

She looked down at the phone again.

“But if this is real…”
“It is.”
“Then someone lied to me.”

Isaiah nodded.

“And I think they lied to both of us.”
The evidence was real — but it raised even more questions than answers.

A long silence followed.

Brooke slowly handed the phone back to Isaiah.

“Who would do something like this?”

Isaiah looked toward the dark parking lot.

“I think you already know the answer.”

Brooke stared at him.

Before she could respond, Isaiah’s phone suddenly buzzed.

Both of them looked at the screen.

A new message had arrived.

Isaiah opened it.

His face immediately became serious.

Brooke noticed his reaction.

“What does it say?”

Isaiah didn’t answer.

“Isaiah?”

He slowly raised his eyes toward Brooke.

“We need to leave.”
“Why?”

He turned the phone toward her.

Brooke read the message.

Her face went completely still.

For the first time that evening, neither of them had anything to say.

The Truth Was Only Beginning

Because the message proved one thing:

They had only discovered the beginning of the truth.

And whoever had been hiding it from them now knew that Isaiah and Brooke were getting too close.

Isaiah put his phone away.

“Brooke, whatever happens next, stay with me.”
“I’m not going anywhere.”

The two walked toward the car together.

But neither of them noticed the person watching from a distance.

The truth was finally coming out.

And the next secret was going to change everything.
