When Lauren Keeps Pushing Wayne For The $20K Bag
The Conversation Starts
The evening had started peacefully at Wayne’s house. Wayne was sitting in the living room, relaxing after a long day, while Lauren was walking around looking at her phone. She had been quiet for several minutes, which made Wayne look up.
Wayne: “What you looking at over there?”
Lauren: “Nothing.”
Wayne: “That ‘nothing’ always costs me money.”
Lauren walked over and sat across from him. “Okay, I found something I really like.”
Wayne: “No.”
Lauren: “You don’t even know what I was going to say.”
Wayne: “I know that look. Go ahead though.”
Lauren: “Look at this bag.”
Wayne glanced at the screen and then looked back at her.
Wayne: “How much?”
Lauren: “Twenty thousand.”
Wayne stared at her for a few seconds before finally shaking his head.
Wayne: “Twenty thousand dollars? Lauren, hell naw.”
Lauren Tries To Convince Him
Lauren: “Why not?”
Wayne: “Because it’s twenty thousand dollars for a bag.”
Lauren: “But it’s designer.”
Wayne: “So?”
Lauren: “It’s beautiful.”
Wayne: “So is my house. You don’t see me trying to buy another one every time I see something I like.”
Lauren rolled her eyes and looked back at her phone.
Lauren: “Wayne, you have money.”
Wayne: “And that doesn’t mean I’m going to spend it on everything somebody asks me for.”
Lauren: “I’m not asking for just anything. I really want this.”
Wayne: “Wanting something and needing something are two completely different things.”
The Real Argument Begins
Lauren: “I just thought you would want to do something nice for me.”
Wayne: “I do nice things. But twenty thousand dollars for a purse? That’s not happening.”
Lauren: “But you’ve spent money on other people.”
Wayne’s expression immediately changed.
Wayne: “Here we go.”
Lauren: “No, I’m just saying.”
Wayne: “You’re comparing what I did for somebody else to what you want me to do for you.”
Lauren: “I’m just trying to understand.”
Wayne: “Understand what?”
Lauren: “Why everybody else can ask you for things, but when I ask, suddenly it’s a problem.”
Wayne: “Because sometimes people ask me for things because they actually need them. Sometimes people just want to see if I’ll give them what they ask for.”
Wayne Calls Her Out
Lauren looked offended, but Wayne didn’t back down.
Lauren: “You think I’m testing you?”
Wayne: “I think you’re testing my wallet.”
Lauren: “That’s not fair.”
Wayne: “Then tell me what’s fair about asking somebody for a twenty-thousand-dollar bag.”
Lauren: “It’s not about the bag.”
Wayne: “Then what is it about?”
Lauren: “It’s about feeling like you care enough to do something big for me.”
Wayne: “You don’t measure somebody’s feelings by how much money they spend.”
Lauren became quiet. She clearly wasn’t expecting Wayne to turn the conversation into something serious.
Lauren Finally Admits The Truth
Wayne: “If I buy you a twenty-thousand-dollar bag, does that suddenly prove I care about you?”
Lauren: “No.”
Wayne: “And if I say no, does that mean I don’t care?”
Lauren: “No.”
Lauren took a deep breath before finally telling him the truth.
Lauren: “I just wanted to know if you would.”
Wayne: “Now we’re being honest.”
Lauren: “Okay, maybe I wanted to see what you would say.”
Wayne: “And now you know.”
The Negotiation Gets Funny
Lauren: “Okay, what about five thousand?”
Wayne: “No.”
Lauren: “Three thousand?”
Wayne: “No.”
Lauren: “Two thousand?”
Wayne: “Lauren.”
Lauren: “One thousand?”
Wayne: “You really about to negotiate this bag like we’re at a flea market?”
Lauren started laughing, but she still wasn’t ready to give up completely.
Lauren: “I’m just trying.”
Wayne: “You can keep trying. My answer is still no.”
The Final Answer
Lauren: “You are stubborn.”
Wayne: “And you are persistent.”
Lauren: “I like nice things.”
Wayne: “I know.”
Lauren: “I deserve nice things.”
Wayne: “You do.”
Lauren: “So buy me the bag.”
Wayne: “That’s where you lost me.”
Lauren started laughing again, and for a moment the tension disappeared.
Wayne Makes One Last Point
Lauren: “So what would you actually buy me?”
Wayne: “That depends.”
Lauren: “On what?”
Wayne: “On whether you’re asking me for something because you really want it or because you’re trying to see how much you can get out of me.”
Lauren: “I’m not trying to get anything out of you.”
Wayne: “Then stop making everything about the price.”
Lauren nodded slowly. She finally understood that Wayne wasn’t going to be pressured into buying the expensive bag.
The Ending
Lauren: “Okay.”
Wayne: “Just don’t send me another bag.”
Lauren: “No promises.”
Wayne shook his head and walked away while Lauren looked back at her phone. She was still smiling, and judging by her expression, Wayne knew this probably wasn’t the last time she was going to ask.
