The Argument
Amber and Dave had been arguing for almost twenty minutes.
The argument had started over something small, but neither of them was willing to back down.
“I told you, Dave, you don’t listen to me anymore!” Amber said, turning away from him.
Dave shook his head. “Amber, that’s not true. You’re making this bigger than it is.”
“Then maybe I should stop expecting you to understand me!”
Dave became frustrated.
“Fine, Amber! If that’s what you want, then just leave me alone for a while.”
The Fall
Amber looked at him with hurt in her eyes.
“You really mean that?”
Dave immediately regretted his words, but his anger was still controlling him.
“I just need some space.”
Amber grabbed her things and walked toward the stairs.
“Amber, wait—”
She turned around.
“No. You already said what you wanted to say.”
She started walking down the stairs.
Then suddenly, her foot slipped.
“Dave!”
Dave’s face changed instantly.
“AMBER!”
He rushed toward her, but it was too late. Amber fell down several steps and landed at the bottom.
Rushing to the Hospital
“Amber! Amber, look at me!”
She was frightened and in pain.
Dave immediately called for help.
“Please, somebody help us! We need an ambulance!”
Minutes later, the ambulance arrived.
The paramedics carefully took Amber to the hospital.
Dave followed behind, completely shaken.
As the ambulance doors closed, he stood there staring at Amber.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I shouldn’t have argued with you.”
The Emergency Room
At the hospital, doctors immediately took Amber into the emergency department.
Dave tried to follow.
“I’m her husband. Please, let me go with her.”
A nurse stopped him.
“Sir, please wait outside. The doctors need to examine her.”
Dave stood frozen in the hallway.
Amber’s face. Her voice. The moment she said, “You really mean that?”
Dave covered his face with his hands.
“I shouldn’t have said those things.”
The Doctor’s Warning
Time seemed to move incredibly slowly.
Every time the emergency-room doors opened, Dave looked up.
“Is she okay?”
But nobody gave him a clear answer yet.
After what felt like forever, a doctor finally walked out.
Dave immediately stood up.
“Doctor! How is Amber?”
The doctor looked serious.
“She is being monitored. We’re doing everything we can.”
Dave swallowed nervously.
“And the baby?”
The doctor paused.
“We need to speak with you after we’ve completed the examination.”
Dave’s heart sank.
The Devastating News
Nearly an hour later, the doctor came out again.
Dave immediately stood.
“Doctor?”
The doctor looked at him for a moment.
“Dave, Amber is stable physically, but there’s something you need to know.”
Dave’s breathing became heavier.
“What happened?”
The doctor quietly said, “Please come inside when you’re ready. Amber needs you right now.”
Dave couldn’t understand why the doctor wasn’t telling him everything.
“Is the baby okay?”
The doctor looked down briefly.
“I’m sorry.”
Dave froze.
The doctor gently continued.
“Amber has lost the pregnancy.”
Dave Breaks Down
Dave’s eyes filled with tears.
“No… no, that can’t be true.”
The doctor placed a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m very sorry.”
Dave stepped backward.
He remembered how happy Amber had been when they talked about their future.
And now everything had changed.
Dave wiped his eyes and slowly walked toward Amber’s room.
Amber’s Tears
When he entered, he saw Amber lying in the hospital bed.
She was crying quietly.
Dave stopped at the doorway.
“Amber…”
Amber turned her face toward him.
The moment she saw Dave, she began crying harder.
Dave walked closer.
“I’m so sorry.”
Amber looked at him through her tears.
“The baby is gone, Dave.”
Dave sat beside her.
“I know.”
Dave’s Regret
Amber shook her head.
“I was so scared. I kept hoping the doctor would come back and tell me everything was okay.”
Dave couldn’t hold his tears anymore.
“I should never have argued with you.”
Amber looked away.
“You told me to leave you alone.”
“I know,” Dave said. “And I’ll regret those words for the rest of my life.”
Amber quietly cried.
Dave reached for her hand.
“I don’t care about the argument anymore. I don’t care who was right or wrong. I just want you to know that I’m here.”
Together Through the Pain
Amber finally looked at him.
“I lost our baby.”
Dave nodded, tears running down his face.
“I know, Amber. And I’m hurting too. But right now, I’m more worried about you.”
Amber squeezed his hand.
“I thought you were angry with me.”
Dave shook his head.
“No. I was angry, and I said things I never should have said. But I love you.”
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
Then Dave leaned closer.
“You don’t have to go through this alone.”
Amber closed her eyes and cried.
Dave stayed beside her, holding her hand.
For the first time that night, there was no argument.
No anger.
No blame.
Just two people sitting together, trying to understand how their lives had suddenly changed.
And Dave knew one thing for certain.
He would never again let an argument make him forget how precious Amber was to him.
