A CINEMATIC SCREENPLAY
SCENE 1 — LARRY AND BETHANY’S HOUSE — EVENING
The house is unusually quiet.
Bethany stands near the living-room window, staring outside. Her expression shows a mixture of fear, hope, and uncertainty.
Larry enters slowly.
He notices immediately that something is wrong.
LARRY
What’s going on, Bethany?
Bethany turns toward him.
For a moment, she says nothing.
Then she takes a deep breath.
BETHANY
Larry, I need to ask you something.
Larry watches her carefully.
LARRY
You can ask me anything.
Bethany walks closer.
Her voice becomes softer.
BETHANY
Do you still believe there is something left between us?
Larry looks away.
The question clearly affects him.
LARRY
I don’t know, Bethany.
Bethany’s eyes fill with emotion.
BETHANY
I do.
Larry looks back at her.
BETHANY
I know we’ve made mistakes. I know we’ve hurt each other. But I don’t want our story to end like this.
SCENE 2 — LIVING ROOM — CONTINUOUS
Larry sits down.
Bethany remains standing for a moment before sitting across from him.
The silence between them feels heavy.
LARRY
You’ve asked me this before.
BETHANY
Because I never stopped hoping.
Larry lowers his eyes.
LARRY
Hope isn’t enough to fix everything.
BETHANY
Then let’s work on everything.
Larry looks surprised.
Bethany reaches for his hand but stops herself.
BETHANY
I’m not asking you to forget the past.
BETHANY
I’m asking you to give us another chance.
Larry remains silent.
Bethany’s expression becomes more emotional.
BETHANY
I miss the person you used to be with me.
Larry finally looks directly at her.
LARRY
And I miss the person I was when I trusted you completely.
SCENE 3 — THE CONVERSATION DEEPENS
Bethany wipes away a tear.
BETHANY
Then maybe we should start again.
Larry takes a long breath.
LARRY
Starting again means being honest.
BETHANY
I’ll be honest.
LARRY
It means no more hiding things from each other.
Bethany nods.
BETHANY
I promise.
Larry studies her face.
He can see that she is serious.
LARRY
And it means we have to stop letting everyone else control what happens between us.
Bethany nods again.
BETHANY
I want that too.
A long silence follows.
For the first time that evening, Larry’s expression softens.
SCENE 4 — A SECOND CHANCE
Bethany looks at Larry with nervous hope.
BETHANY
So… are you willing to try?
Larry doesn’t answer immediately.
He stands and walks toward the window.
Outside, the last light of the evening fades.
Larry turns back.
LARRY
Yes.
Bethany freezes.
She wasn’t expecting the answer so quickly.
BETHANY
You mean it?
Larry nods.
LARRY
I mean it.
Bethany’s face changes completely.
Relief replaces the sadness in her eyes.
She stands.
BETHANY
I thought you were going to say no.
LARRY
Part of me wanted to.
Bethany looks down.
LARRY
But another part of me realized that walking away without trying one more time would be something I’d regret.
Bethany smiles through her tears.
SCENE 5 — REBUILDING TRUST
They sit together on the couch.
Neither speaks for several seconds.
The atmosphere is different now.
There is still uncertainty, but there is also hope.
BETHANY
I don’t expect everything to become perfect overnight.
LARRY
Good.
Bethany smiles faintly.
BETHANY
But I want us to be better.
LARRY
Then we start with tomorrow.
BETHANY
Tomorrow?
LARRY
One day at a time.
Bethany nods.
BETHANY
I can do that.
Larry looks at her.
LARRY
And Bethany…
She looks toward him.
LARRY
If we’re really going to do this, we have to protect what we’re rebuilding.
Bethany understands exactly what he means.
BETHANY
I will.
SCENE 6 — LATER THAT NIGHT
The lights in the living room are dim.
Bethany and Larry remain together, talking quietly about everything that went wrong between them.
There are moments of sadness.
There are moments of laughter.
And slowly, the distance between them begins to disappear.
Bethany looks at Larry.
BETHANY
Thank you.
LARRY
For what?
BETHANY
For not giving up completely.
Larry gives a small smile.
LARRY
Don’t make me regret it.
Bethany smiles.
BETHANY
I won’t.
They sit quietly beside each other.
No promises about a perfect future.
No guarantees that the past won’t return.
Just two people deciding that their relationship deserves another chance.
SCENE 7 — THE NEXT MORNING
Morning sunlight fills the house.
Bethany walks into the kitchen.
Larry is already there, preparing coffee.
She stops at the doorway.
For a moment, she simply watches him.
Larry notices her.
LARRY
Good morning.
Bethany smiles.
BETHANY
Good morning.
It sounds ordinary.
But for both of them, it means something different.
Yesterday, they were uncertain about their future.
Today, they are willing to try again.
Bethany walks over and sits at the table.
BETHANY
So, what’s our first step?
Larry thinks for a moment.
LARRY
Honesty.
Bethany nods.
BETHANY
And after that?
Larry smiles.
LARRY
Trust.
Bethany smiles back.
BETHANY
And after trust?
Larry looks at her.
LARRY
Maybe we’ll finally remember why we chose each other in the first place.
Bethany’s eyes become emotional again.
But this time, she smiles.
The camera slowly pulls away as they continue talking.
Their future is uncertain.
Their past is complicated.
But for the first time in a long while, Bethany and Larry are facing it together.
