Larry Scolds Brooke for Inviting Lynette

A Labor Day Fish Fry Filled with Tension, Conflict, and Unexpected Emotions

The Labor Day Fish Fry was supposed to be a peaceful family gathering, but Brooke’s decision to invite Lynette without asking Larry first threatened to turn the entire evening into a disaster.

The backyard was decorated with tables, chairs, and colorful lights. The smell of fried fish filled the air, and everyone was busy preparing for the guests. Bethany was helping with the food, while Larry checked the arrangements and made sure everything was ready.

Brooke arrived with a smile, expecting everyone to appreciate the effort she had made. She had invited Lynette because she believed it was time to put the past behind them. What she did not realize was that Bethany and Lynette still had unresolved issues.

The Invitation That Changed Everything

Larry noticed Brooke standing near the entrance and immediately walked over.

Larry: “Brooke, can I talk to you for a minute?”

Brooke: “Sure. What’s wrong?”

Larry: “Did you invite Lynette?”

Brooke: “Yes. I thought it would be nice to have her here.”

Larry stared at her in disbelief.

Larry: “You thought it would be nice?”

Brooke: “Larry, it’s Labor Day. Everyone should be able to enjoy themselves. I didn’t think inviting her would be such a big deal.”

Larry: “That’s exactly the problem. You didn’t think about what could happen. You invited her without asking me first.”

Brooke crossed her arms.

Brooke: “I didn’t know I needed your permission.”

Larry: “This isn’t about permission. It’s about respect. You knew Bethany and Lynette don’t get along, and you still decided to bring her here without telling anyone.”

Brooke looked toward the kitchen, where Bethany was preparing the food.

Brooke: “I thought Bethany would be able to handle it.”

Larry: “You thought wrong.”

Lynette Arrives

Before Brooke could respond, Lynette arrived. She greeted everyone politely, but the tension in the backyard was impossible to ignore. Bethany noticed her immediately and stopped what she was doing.

For a moment, nobody said anything.

Lynette: “Happy Labor Day.”

Bethany: “Happy Labor Day.”

Larry watched them carefully. He knew the evening could go wrong at any moment.

Brooke walked over to Lynette and welcomed her.

Brooke: “I’m glad you came.”

Lynette: “Thank you for inviting me.”

Larry looked at Brooke with frustration.

Larry: “Can we talk privately?”

Brooke: “What now?”

Larry: “Why did you invite her?”

Brooke: “I already told you. I wanted everyone to have a good time.”

Larry: “Then you should have asked me first. You knew there was going to be tension.”

Brooke sighed.

Brooke: “Larry, I’m tired of everyone acting like they can never be in the same room.”

Larry: “That’s not the point. The point is that you made a decision that affected everyone.”

Brooke: “So now I’m responsible for everyone’s problems?”

Larry: “No, but you are responsible for the problems you create.”

The Dinner Turns Into Chaos

His words upset her, but before she could answer, Bethany called everyone to the table.

Dinner began with an uncomfortable silence. People tried to make conversation, but the tension between Bethany and Lynette was obvious. Lynette reached for a serving dish, and Bethany quickly moved it away.

Bethany: “Let me help you.”

Lynette: “I can serve myself.”

Bethany: “I didn’t say you couldn’t.”

Larry noticed the exchange and immediately looked at Brooke.

Larry: “This is exactly what I was talking about.”

Brooke: “Larry, please don’t start.”

Larry: “I’m not starting anything. I’m trying to stop it.”

But the situation became worse when Bethany accidentally dropped a serving spoon. She bent down to pick it up, and when she stood, the plate in her hand slipped.

The food fell directly onto Lynette. Everyone at the table froze.

Lynette looked down at her clothes in shock.

Lynette: “What just happened?”

Bethany: “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”

Lynette: “Of course you didn’t.”

Bethany: “What is that supposed to mean?”

Lynette: “You tell me.”

Larry immediately stood up.

Larry: “Enough. This is a family gathering. We are not going to turn it into a fight.”

Brooke rushed over to Lynette.

Brooke: “Are you okay?”

Lynette: “I’m fine.”

But she clearly wasn’t.

Bethany looked embarrassed and angry at the same time.

Bethany: “I said I was sorry.”

Lynette: “And I heard you. But I’m not going to pretend this feels accidental.”

Larry Blames Brooke

Larry turned toward Brooke.

Larry: “Brooke, this is what I was trying to prevent.”

Brooke: “Larry, I didn’t make Bethany drop the food.”

Larry: “I know that. But you invited Lynette without asking me, and now everyone is dealing with the consequences.”

Brooke’s face fell.

Brooke: “So this is all my fault?”

Larry: “I’m not saying everything is your fault. I’m saying you should have thought about the situation before making the decision.”

Brooke looked toward Bethany, who was still standing beside the table.

Brooke: “I thought we were all trying to move forward.”

Bethany: “Moving forward doesn’t mean forgetting everything.”

Brooke Defends Her Decision

Lynette picked up her bag.

Lynette: “Maybe I should leave.”

Brooke: “No, Lynette. You don’t have to leave because of this.”

Larry: “Brooke, please. Don’t make this worse.”

She turned toward him.

Brooke: “You keep saying that, but you’re the one making me feel like I did something terrible.”

Larry: “I’m trying to protect everyone from another argument.”

Brooke: “Then maybe you should have talked to me instead of scolding me in front of everyone.”

The backyard fell silent. Larry realized that his anger had hurt Brooke more than he intended.

Larry Realizes His Mistake

Larry took a breath and looked at her.

Larry: “You’re right. I should have talked to you privately.”

Brooke: “But you also need to understand why I invited her.”

Larry: “I understand that you wanted to make peace. I just wish you had asked me first.”

Brooke glanced at Lynette, then at Bethany.

Brooke: “I guess I should have.”

The Evening Finally Settles

The evening did not return to normal immediately, but the tension slowly began to settle. Lynette stayed for a little while longer, and Bethany eventually apologized again.

Larry watched Brooke quietly. He knew the situation had become much bigger than a simple invitation. It was about trust, respect, and the difficult relationships that everyone was still trying to manage.

And as the Labor Day Fish Fry continued, Larry realized that sometimes the hardest part of keeping peace was admitting when you had handled things the wrong way.
