It was a quiet afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia. Dave’s house was unusually silent, and nobody knew what was happening inside. Omni arrived at the front door, looking worried. She had been trying to reach Dave all morning, but he wasn’t answering his phone.

“Dave? Are you home?” Omni called as she stepped inside.

She searched the living room, checked the kitchen, and finally walked toward the hallway. Suddenly, she spotted Dave lying on the couch, looking completely exhausted.

“Oh my God, Dave! What happened to you?” Omni asked, rushing toward him.

Dave slowly opened his eyes.

“Omni? What are you doing here?”

“I came to find you. You weren’t answering my calls, and I was worried about you. Come on, get up. You can’t stay here all day feeling sorry for yourself.”

Omni helped Dave stand up and led him toward the bedroom, where he could rest. But Dave suddenly became nervous.

“Wait a minute! What if Amber saw you coming here? What if she finds out we’ve been spending time together? You know how big this could become. Amber is going to turn my whole life upside down!”

Omni shook her head and looked straight into his eyes.

“Baby, nothing is going to happen. You need to be strong. Stop forcing yourself to stay in a relationship that clearly isn’t making you happy. Why are you holding on to Amber when I’m right here, ready to stand beside you?”

Dave looked away, unable to answer immediately.

“Dave, I need you to be honest with me,” Omni said, her voice becoming serious. “Do you really love Amber, or are you just afraid of what will happen if you leave her?”

Dave sighed.

“Omni, you don’t understand. Amber has been a huge part of my life. I can’t just walk away from her like none of it ever mattered.”

Omni’s eyes filled with disappointment.

“And what about me? Do my feelings mean nothing to you? I’ve been waiting for you to make a decision, but every time I ask, you tell me to be patient.”

“Please, Omni. Give me a little more time,” Dave pleaded. “Let Amber stay in my life for a little while longer. I promise I’ll figure everything out. I’ll talk to her and end the relationship when the time is right.”

Omni folded her arms.

“Fine, Dave. I’ll give you another chance. But listen carefully: I’m not going to wait forever. You need to decide what you really want before you lose both of us.”

Dave reached for her hand.

“I promise you. Just trust me a little longer.”

Omni finally smiled, and the tension between them began to fade.

They sat together, talking about their future, sharing quiet smiles, and imagining what their lives might look like if they could finally be together openly.

Later that afternoon, Dave and Omni stood together near the living room window. Omni moved closer to him, gently touched his arm, and smiled.

“You know what, Dave? Sometimes I imagine what it would be like if we didn’t have to hide anything.”

Dave smiled back. “Maybe one day, we won’t have to.”

Omni looked into his eyes. “And when that day comes, you won’t change your mind again, will you?”

Dave hesitated for a second before answering.

“No. I want to be happy, Omni.”

She moved closer, and the two shared a quiet, affectionate moment.

Dave believed everything was finally falling into place. He thought Amber would eventually accept the breakup, and he could begin a new chapter with Omni.

Just then, the front door opened.

“Dave? Are you home?” a familiar voice called out.

Dave froze. Omni immediately turned toward the entrance.

It was Amber.

Amber walked into the living room, expecting to find Dave alone. Instead, she saw him standing extremely close to Omni. Their hands were almost touching, and the expressions on their faces told her that something was wrong.

Amber stopped in her tracks. For several seconds, she couldn’t speak.

“Dave?” she finally whispered.

Dave quickly stepped away from Omni.

“Amber! What are you doing here?”

Amber stared at him, her eyes moving from Dave to Omni and then back again.

“Seriously, Dave? That’s the first thing you want to ask me?”

Omni tried to remain calm.

“Amber, please. Don’t misunderstand what you’re seeing.”

Amber let out a bitter laugh.

“Don’t misunderstand? You’re standing right next to my boyfriend, and you expect me to believe there’s nothing going on?”

Dave raised his hands.

“Amber, listen to me. We can talk about this.”

“Talk about what, Dave? How long has this been happening? How long have you both been making a fool out of me?”

Dave couldn’t find the right words. And that silence hurt Amber more than any explanation could have.

She felt embarrassed, betrayed, and heartbroken. She had trusted Dave, even when things between them weren’t perfect. Now she was beginning to wonder whether their entire relationship had been built on lies.

Omni looked at Dave, silently hoping he would finally tell Amber the truth.

Instead, Dave took a deep breath.

“Amber, I think we need some space.”

Amber stared at him in disbelief.

“Space? After what I just saw?”

Dave looked down.

“I don’t want to keep pretending everything is okay between us.”

For a moment, Amber’s expression changed. The sadness in her eyes slowly gave way to something neither Dave nor Omni expected: a cold, determined look.

“Okay, Dave,” she said quietly. “If that’s what you want, I won’t beg you to stay.”

Omni exchanged a relieved glance with Dave. Neither of them noticed Amber slipping her phone back into her purse.

Amber walked out of Dave’s house without another word. Inside, Omni finally exhaled.

“See? I told you everything would be fine.”
