Brooke’s Secret Fear
1. Something Feels Different
Brooke expected life to return to normal after that night. Instead, her body began making her uneasy. Her period was unusually difficult, leaving her exhausted, uncomfortable, and increasingly anxious. At first, she tried to convince herself that stress was responsible.
She had been through too much lately—the heartbreak, Isaiah’s distance, the arguments, and the uncertainty surrounding their relationship. She told herself that emotional pressure could explain almost anything.
But deep down, Brooke knew something felt different.
2. A Memory From Philadelphia
Brooke sat on the edge of her bed and stared at her phone. There were no new messages from Isaiah.
Then Philadelphia came rushing back.
She remembered the days she had spent with Isaiah at his uncle’s house—the conversations, the closeness, and the moments when she believed they were building a future together. Back then, Brooke had trusted him completely.
Now that same memory frightened her.
Her breathing slowed as one terrifying possibility entered her mind.
“What if I’m pregnant?”
The words barely escaped her lips.
3. Hope Fighting Fear
Brooke placed both hands over her face. Her thoughts immediately became tangled.
One part of her was terrified. She had no idea what Isaiah would say. Their relationship was already falling apart, and she couldn’t imagine facing a pregnancy while feeling abandoned.
But another part of her quietly wondered whether this could somehow bring Isaiah back.
Maybe he would finally understand how much she loved him. Maybe he would stop ignoring her. Maybe they could become the family she once imagined.
Then reality returned.
Isaiah had been pulling away. He had ignored her calls, walked away from difficult conversations, and appeared increasingly involved with other girls.
Brooke’s eyes filled with tears.
“How could I bring a baby into this?”
4. The Decision She Couldn’t Make
She opened Isaiah’s contact.
Her thumb hovered over the call button.
She imagined his voice answering. She imagined telling him everything. She imagined silence on the other end.
What if he panicked?
What if he accused her of lying?
What if he denied everything?
Or worse—what if he simply didn’t care?
Brooke locked her phone and dropped it beside her.
She knew she couldn’t make such a life-changing decision based only on fear. Before telling Isaiah anything, she needed to know what was actually happening.
5. A Secret She Could Barely Carry
Her thoughts turned toward her mother.
Should she tell her first?
Brooke knew her mother might be shocked, angry, or disappointed. But perhaps she would also understand that Brooke was frightened and needed someone beside her.
She reached for her phone again and began typing a message.
“Mom, I need to talk to you about something important.”
She stared at the words.
Then she deleted them.
Brooke wasn’t ready.
6. Isaiah Knows Nothing
He checked his phone briefly but didn’t see Brooke’s name appear.
He had no idea she was sitting alone, questioning everything they had shared in Philadelphia.
If Brooke told him, his reaction could go in any direction. Shock. Guilt. Confusion. Fear.
Maybe even denial.
And Brooke wasn’t sure which possibility frightened her most.
7. The Answer That Could Change Everything
She wrote three possibilities on the page:
Tell Isaiah.
Tell Mom.
Find out the truth first.
Her eyes remained fixed on the final option.
Brooke slowly closed the notebook.
For the first time that night, she understood one thing clearly: she couldn’t let fear make the decision for her.
Tomorrow, she would find out the truth.
But just as Brooke placed her phone on the nightstand, the screen suddenly lit up.
A message from Isaiah.
“Brooke, we need to talk. I just found out something about Philadelphia.”
Brooke froze.
Her heart began pounding.
She read the message again—and then another notification appeared.
This time, the message was from her mother.
“Brooke, please don’t tell Isaiah anything until you talk to me.”
Brooke stared at both messages, completely stunned.
How did her mother know?
And what exactly had Isaiah discovered about Philadelphia?
For the first time, Brooke realized that the secret she feared might not be the only secret waiting to come out.
And tomorrow, someone was finally going to tell her the truth.
